2500HD w/Duramax
Strength:
The engine and tranny (allison) work very well together. I've towed a couple of skid loaders behind it going up to the mountains and ended up passing most of the vehicles in the left hand lane. It drives like a car, no complaints there, and functions great for an all around HD truck.
Weakness:
Brakes, not to much stopping power when there's a load behind you, but that's to be expected. I'm also dissapointed in the "plastic" interior, for an LT with all options, you think that chevy could of done better on the stuctural intigrity. I've always driven chevy's, and will continue to do so. I've had this truck for a year now, and the only gripe I have is that the stock tires are horrible. I only was able to get 30k out of them. Other then that, I've been very satisfied with it. The duramax tow's like a champ, no problem going up into the mountains, and runs much more quieter then my buddies Ford, who also has a diesel. Any more, i think the brand of truck is all the same, the only difference is the body style. Similar Products Used: 97' Z-71 91' 1500 81' custom 10 |

Like the "trailer tow" switch that make towing my 21 footer a breese. Fuel mileage is pretty good for a full size 4 X 4 )16 mpg @ 75 mph 100 miles a day.
Weakness:
Really haven't found any at this time....maybe payments? Just bought this truck with 9000 miles on it. Love the heated leather seats and ALL the bells & whistles on this truck. After reading some of the other comments on this web page, I am scared that I may have problems! Oh well, that is what the warranty is for, and I DO expect the dealer to honor the warranty. Similar Products Used: 1990 "K" Blazer 1998 Dodge Dakota |

gm needs to go back to drivetrain 101.
Weakness:
front end feels as though the ball joints are shot.engine tick when warm and knocks on cold start up.transmission cannot seem to figure out what it wants to do.driveline clanks so badly during up/downshifts,that people walking on the street turn to see whats going on.the drivers seat with the radio off drove me nuts squeeking.the brakes in these trucks are horrible not to mention, check out what it will cost you to replace pads and rotors on a half ton.you might have to take out another loan!!!! once again general motors is building junk and shoving at the american public.the 2002 k1500 ext cab 4x4 pickup i drove for 14 months was terrible.will never lease or own another chevrolet.get this i WORK for the dealer where i got the truck.everyday i see and hear of more customers and friends that have bought these trucks that are dumping them.why because gm has there head stuck in the sand.get this they put out a t.s.b.that states the clunk/clank between shifts is caused by a momentary revesal of torque.hmmmm..lets see its an automatic transmission you idiots how can it have a reversal of torque??????typical gm response to a problem,"there is no problem".kind of like the iraqi information minister"there are no americans in baghdad".not to mention the 2 to 3 second delay to reverse from drive.oh the "a"pillars are like having a 2x8 board turned sideways in your field of view.yes,gm has gone complacent yet again.my advice buy a dodge hemi ram. |

Weakness:
nothing major I don't know what all the whining is about in some of these reviews. This is by far the best vehicle I have owned. I drive about 600 miles a week and I have had no problems other than the windshield rattle cased by my bug deflector. A little silicone adhesive solved that. I is a very comfortable ride. Great power and good fuel economy. A installed a K&R air filter and flowmaster 40 muffler which boosted both. I will have this one for a LONG time. Auto dimming driver side mirror is awesome. Engine, 6.0 liter Vortec V-8 Tow/Haul mode Transmission Total fit and finish
Weakness:
No Lumbar feature on seats, no fog lamps, no running boards/step bars I had been a GM Mn for some time but due to towing a large camper and 3 kids, I left the GM fold and bought a Ford Excursion. Well after 4 years I am back to GM and what a homecoming. My 4 door crew cab has more than enough room and is very plush. The 6.0 liter V-8 is smaller than the Ford's 6.8 liter V-10 but the tow/haul mode is a great option and I have a better gear range when towing. Gas mileage is better than the Ford. The ride is pretty good considering the frame and suspension that is under it. I have no wind noise or rattles (a constant problem with the Ford). I paid over $1000 dollars for the driver power seat and it has NO Lumbar support! The Bose speaker system is nice, the stereo is somewhat technical. I really like the transmission temperature gauge they added to the dash but I do not like the digital odometer, tripometer and the warning bell every time a door opens. The exterior lighting feature is great but it did not come with fog lamps, I had those added at dealer cost which was marginal. Overall I am very happy with this truck. Its powerful and smooth. The Vortec V-8 6.0 liter is a great power plant and really motors the truck. I like the looks and the style. Chevy should consider putting step bars/running boards on all trucks over 1500. That, the lack of a manual or power lumbar feature on the very expensive seat, lack of fog lamps on a very expensive truck, are the only drawbacks. I would definitely reccomend this truck to anyone for towing and hauling. Similar Products Used: 1995 Chevrolet Suburban, 2000 Ford Excursion |

noisy drivetrain This is the nicest truck I have ever owned. The 5.3 is awesome and yes the drivetrain clunks sometimes. Did you ever notice that most reviews are written by a people that are mad because something went wrong with their vehicle or their V8 gets low mileage. Cars are machines and they break sometimes, get a warranty! I drive aggressively and at 62k miles the truck has needed nothing but tires! Similar Products Used: 1987 GMC 1992 Yukon |

Reliability, gas mileage, interior is cheap. VALVE KNOCK/PISTON SLAP. Black smoke rolling out of exhaust. Bought this new with the 5.3 V8. Ran great. Looked great. Major problems with the fuel tank, piston slap, and valve knock. Was rear ended by a Ford Aspire at about 20 mph, did over $3,000 worth of damage. Spent a great deal of time in the shop. Traded at 25,000 miles. No more GM for me. Similar Products Used: Hondas (great) Acuras (great) Chevrolets (not good) Jeeps/Chrysler (not good) |

Strength:
Excellent power and torque, she sounds mean with those Flowmaster 40's. Very good build quality, very solid and hardly any wind noise in the cab. Fuel economy is quite good considering it's a pickup. A versatile and great looking vehicle all in one.
Weakness:
The dashboard controls leave a little to be desired. Would be nice to have a third door on this model year. Factory stereo was pretty much junk. It's long gone, though. This is the definition of "truck" to me. This thing is the toughest and most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. There's nothing it can't handle. I've done some mild tweaking to the TBI 350 and it handles my 26 ft camper trailer with ease. The fuel economy is respectable for a pickup, too. Definetly my best friend. Sorry, Max!
