5.3L V-8 power for hauling/towing power everything (ie: seats/windows/heated seats/auto-dim rear view mirror... etc)

Weakness:

extended warranty coverage. honestly, why bother with an extended warranty?

Started off a bit worried when I bought the truck with 365 miles on it and within 48 hours, got a "Engine Maint" warning light. Turned out to be a bad PCV valve. In 2002, passenger side window stopped working. Was a burnt out motor on the power windows, but replaced under warranty. This year it failed inspection due to emergency brake which wasn't covered under the extended warranty (claims to be a wearable part) and set me back about 250 bucks. The cheap tires they provide did last me til about 47K miles, when I replaced them with BF Goodrich ALL-terrians (800 bucks, but feel they are great tires). Occasionally, when starting out from a stop, transmission feels like it slips, but I think it tries to start in 2nd gear, then shifts to 1st. Other than the above listed, I've had no other problems over the 62K miles I've put on this truck. Seems to average 15mpg City/18mpg Interstate with the 5.3L V-8. Has plenty of towing power. Acceleration makes you feel like your driving a car, but the braking reminds you that it's in fact a heavy truck. Other than regular oil changes when the "change oil" light comes on (I use the Mobil 1 Tri-syn w/Mobil High Eff filter), air filter, and a coupIe light bulbs, I haven't done any other maintenance on it. This truck has always been reliable, and I look forward to many more years of driving it. Yes, I've mostly listed negative things, but that's what you want to see, right? Day to day, It's a great mode of transportation, with the capablility to haul/tow heavy loads. Of course, if you never haul/tow, why get a truck?

Weakness:

1. Chevrolet Customer Service. 2. Ride of the truck. 3. Reliability of the truck. 4. Noise from everything squeaking. 5. Performance of the truck. 6. Fuel mileage. 7. Chevy's quality has disappeared!!!!!!

One big headache. Totally unsatisfied with this vehicle. Truck in shop again at 15000 miles. Chevrolet customer service is in name only - they could care less about the satisfaction of the customer! In the last 13 months, truck has been in and out of the shop at least 12 times. At 2000 miles, the steering box and intermediate steering shaft had to be replaced. Major clunking and feedback in front end when going slowly over any bumps in road. Was told that is normal! Presently power steering pump whines, transmission whines when slowly accelerating, transmission slips occasionally when accelerating from stop, driver mirror vibrates when driving down road, body mounts and leaf springs attaching points squeak, truck rides on the overload leaf spring without a load being on the truck. Truck has a terrible ride. The dealer states that "it's normal". If that's normal for Chevrolet products, that will be the last Chevrolet product that I ever purchase!!!

THE TRUCK STARTRD OUT GREAT. NOW HAVE HAD BATTERY REPLACRD BECAUSE OF LEAKING ACID HAD DRIVER SIDE WINDOW CABLE FIXED. HAVE HAD TO HAVE HOOD LATCH CABLE REPLACED, OIL WEAPING FROM REAR CHUNK.HAD WATER LEAK ON DRIVER SIDE TOOK TO DEALER HAD TO PUT SEAL IN A SEAM SOMEONE FORGOT TO SEAL. BIGGEST PROBLEM IS WIND COMMING IN UNDER DASH ON PASSENGER SIDE. HAVE HAD IT AT THE DEALER THREE TIMES. FIRST TIME COULDN'T FIND BECAUSE IT WASN'T COLD. SECOND TIME WANTED TO TAKE OUT AIRCONDITIONER BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS LOW ON FREON AND WOULD CAUSE IT TO HAPPEN. WHEN WE INSISSTED THEY NOT TOUCH THE A/C THEY LOOKED ON COMPUTER AND FOUND NOTICE ABOUT CAULKING COMMING OUT AROUND A/C BOX. SAID THEY FIXED IT. NOW THIS WEEK BACK IN THE SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN ROAD WITH MY HUSBAND SAID HE COULD FEEL THE AIR. KEPT THE TRUCK FOR AMOTHER DAY. NOW THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. CALLED CHEVY CUST. SERVICE. SAID THEY WOULD CHECK WITH DEALER TO SEE IF IT'S RECURRING PROBLEM. I DON'T THINK SO. THEY WON'T EVEN LOOK FOR ANOTHER LEAK. I HAVE READ ALMOST 50 OF THESE COMPLAINTS AND NOT ONE HAS MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM. IF YOU HAVE THE HEATER ON AND YOU CANT BREATH BECAUSE THE AIR IS SO HOT AND YOUR RIGHT LEG IS FROZEN PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I HAVE TO BRING A BLANKET WHEN I RIDE IN HIS TRUCK.

Weakness:

One big lemon.

Paint peeling from dash, leather seats separating at seam, ABS brake module failed, fuel pump failed, electric windows & mirrors intermittent failure, clunking/grinding in transfer case, tapping from engine when first started cold or hot, tailgate cable broke, emergency brake failed supposedly because it is a constant friction brake and was designed that way, need I say more. What will happen once out it goes out of warranty?

Plaguing front end vibration

I purchased the truck new in early 2002 and have had no problems until November of 2003. Two problems that came up were the notorious clunking and vibrating in the front end when going over bumps and when turning. It almost feels as though there is a bad center link or broken shock mount. I've heard that the grease runs out of the steering shaft causing the clunking and vibration. The other problem is that the passenger side view mirror defrost function decided to take a vacation. Thankfully, the truck is still under warantee.

Apparently the GM product warranty is only as good as a dealer will comply with the defect

Before warranty expired had to replace ABS, one at a time. the first one was picked up by the dealer, the rest was my pocket $500.00+. This year, 2003 at 62,000 miles the brakes failed. An independent garage found the left side hydraulic brake line rusted through. Had just came from towing my Harley on an Interstate, $300.00+. My pocket expense. Coolant had leaked into the intake manifold causing the oil to congel and and had not the constant check on loss of coolant in the radiator discloserd the ruptured gasket I would have had major repair. my pocket $650.00+

Strength:

5.3 ltr V8, fair gas mileage for weight of vehicle, Strong body construction, Very dependable.

Weakness:

Dont like 2 - 3 second lag time shifting between drive and reverse. This is my only complaint.

I bought this truck new and have just turned 20000 miles without a single visit to the service center (other than to collect my free oil changes). The 5.3 liter V8 runs great. 4WD gets me anywhere I want to go and it tows with no problem. The Auto 4WD feature is great for running between paved and dirt roads, which I do alot of. I do have a windshield rattle at about 75 or 80 mph which seems to be common judging from some of the other reviews I have read. However I do not want to leave my vehicle at the dealer for this small problem alone and since this vehicle just has no other problems at all, it may never get checked out. I have driven Ford trucks and Dodge trucks. They dont compare to my Bad a$$ Chevy.

Lots of power, Drives like a car, Comfortable, Looks great for work or play.

Weakness:

The notorious front end clunking GM has had a continuing problem with since 1999. The intermediate steering shaft wears out within 20,000 miles. There is NO proper fix for the problem to date. I also don't care for the automatic headlight system and I'm not really sure why, its a good idea.

My newest truck ever. Very comfortable with good styling. I especially like the quad doors. the 5.3 runs great and not too bad on gas (17.8 mpg consistantly) Tow/Haul mode trans makes a difference when towing a load. Nice Truck overall. I have to say the dealer makes the best impression. Cook Chevrolet has a wonderful service dept, and staff. I give them 5 stars.
