Strength:

lots of power, great for towing, comfortable, spacious, great design, perfect factory off-road capability, tow package is standard item (very handy item i might say)

Weakness:

LOUD rear suspension, rearend is a little stiff for perfect road traveling capability however great for trail use, push button 4-wheel drive takes a bit to kick in and out, have to put bigger rims on for larger tires also raise it atleast 3" for 35" or 285 series tires

Great truck that i actually enjoy driving everyday. Was into the lowrider and sport compact scene till i test drove the truck. Use it for everything from hauling wood, towing a boat, long trips, and hunting. Only had one problem with it so far and it has 138,000 mi. The problem of which i had was a stupid little sensor setting off the check engine light. Truck has plenty of torque for towing, with plenty of hp to pull away quickly. Drove my old mans dodge ram 1500, that wasn't even comparable to the k1500. Added a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and bigger alternator for my stereo. Has a full custom exhaust system from headers to the monster 4.5" tips which exit behind the rear wheel. Sounds like a harley everyone knows when im coming down the road. As far as interior goes very roomy, comfortable, well set out as far as controls go. Enough room in the back under the seat for a full size sub box and amp.

This is a great truck. Lots of power and decent gas mileage with the 5.3. Smooth, quiet and refined. All vehicles will break sooner or later. I laugh at these people who act like a Dodge or a Ford would be better. Ive talked to people who have driven these trucks for many miles without significant problems. I have the SLT package with the heated leather seats and I love it.

Good looking truck

Weakness:

Inadequate brakes. Cheap painted interior that easily peels. Clunking shifting transmission. No-feel steering.

Bought the truck with 47,000miles. At 53,000miles the rearend goes out, and oil starts to leak at oil cooler line (warranty covered). At 54,000miles alternator goes out, oil still leaking at oil cooler line, and clunking noise in trans @ 3-4gear shift (warranty covered except trans). The clunking noise is a known problem and GM refuses to fixes a known problem which continues up into the 2003 models. Instead, a bulletin is issued with a no-fix solution. I need to sell it before warrenty expires. Already $2500 in warrenty claims in 6 months.

Strength:

Very powerful engine and strong frame. Excellent payload and towing capacity. Knowing that my truck is stronger and safer than most vehicles out there (my 1/2 ton truck has the same frame strength as a 3500, 1 ton truck). Passenger comfort and friendly design. Bold and rugged look, yet very rich and classy. Best ride and suspension for ease on the back (rides like an suv) but it's a truck! Low enough to get in without a clumsy stepper, but big enough to get plety of respect, very smart, who wants to climb or jump in and out of a vehicle every signle day? Excellent fuel economy, surprisingly, my truck uses only slightly more gas than my old 2-door Saturn coupe, wow! Excellent visibility. No problems driving at night on highways that have no street lamps. The headlights are nice and bright and directed exactly where they should be. Nice sound systems. Folding back bench that can carry tons and grocery without having to use the truck bed all the time. Outstanding value.

Weakness:

The CD player sometimes doesn't read my recordable CD's.

We bought a brand new 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS model in Jan 2003. We used to own a sporty 2-door Saturn, and now with this truck, we have a room for 6 people and all the cargo we have to go camping and road trips. It's got the 5.3L V8 engine, dual temperature control which now my wife and I never disagree what temperature setting we want, heavy duty suspension and tire for pulling trailers, and the options that goes on and on. Wow! We went on a road trip to the Canadian Rockies this summer, and it was a wow. It pulled all our camping gear and fire wood and passengers through all the rugged and steep terrains of Rocky mountains and had excellent gas mileage. It has the bold and rugged look but also looks real classy in my neighbouring golf course, looks rich. Peple give you the respect on the road. There is no arguing with the Chevy Truck! They all just step aside. Interior is very comfortable and carefully designed for fuctionality and comfort. Electronic gage tells you all the mechanical info you need to know. The suspension was surprisingly comfortable. We test drove various truck and Ford was the worst in handling and almost gave me a back ache after a 5 minute drive on a smooth road and it felt like it would tip over on corners at slow speed. But my chevy was very stable on corners, and very good at giving a nice comfortable ride in all terrain. It's just high enough for most people to get on it without a step stool but big enough to get lots and lots of attention from envious drivers. I have about 20,000 km on this truck so far and had no problems at all. It says the payload max is about 1600 lb, but I've put more than that, we 6 people in the cab and full load of cargo, probably close to 1800 to 2000 lb and it still took it with no problems. No sagging in the rear, I didn't even have to switch it to the tow/haul mode, which I was so looking forward to use finally. In short, this truck is outstanding. I am a converted Chevy truck lover. Never will I drive a dingky sedan again. It's Chevy truck or nothing!

Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie. But Chevy is much better value that comes with way more added options for better price. Dodge is all about size and looks but not a good value. Ford is about size and heavy suspensions and all that off-road stuff (come on, how many city people actually use it for off roading, really?) and Ford trucks have bad ride comfort.

Strength:

5.3 L engine is quite powerful. Comfortable seats.

Weakness:

Rear windows in the extended cab generate lots of wind noise at highway speeds. Windows, when open (1 inch) in the rain, drip directly on the window and lock switches. Daytime driving lamps last about 6 hours, then BZZZT! time for a new bulb... AGAIN.

Great truck. I love driving it. I am, however, not thrilled with the rear suspension (it makes lots of noise). In the time I've owned the vehicle, I've replaced the 4WD switch (fried resistor), three daytime driving lamps, and the fuel pressure regulator (leaking). At 77,000 miles, the brakes are getting noisy, and I will replace them on 10/14/04, a few days from now. I've upgraded to Class E tires, and had a Line-X liner sprayed into the bed. I also did my own custom stereo installation with nearly 800 Watts of entertainment. I've never been this pleased with a vehicle, overall.

hmm, can't think of one right now

Wow, you people sound like you're really putting your vehicles through hell! I purchased my Chevy new in November of 2000, and I've got just over 43000 miles on it now. I have not had to take it to the dealership at all yet, have no funny noises, no bumpy ride, no grinding, and my seats aren't falling apart ;). The only thing that has broken, and I have no idea how, but one of the plastic clips on one of the lights for the license plate broke off, so I improvised and now you can not even tell. I've got the 4.8 V8, and it's got plenty of power for what I use my truck for, which is pretty much just driving to and from work, and eating rice (Hondas, Toyotas, Acuras, etc...) for lunch. Don't think I treat my ride like it's made of paper, this truck is tough. If it's anywhere near the truck that my 84 full size Blazer is, then I should be able to give it to my kid for his 16th, whenever I have one, hah!

Strength:

Comfortable, nice ride, decent power for the 4.8L V8.

Weakness:

Lots of rattles and hearing clunks from the reat when coming to complete stop and starting back off.

I was initially concerned about getting a 4.8L, wondering if it would be under powered. It does quite well. Very comfortable, but a lot more rattles and feedback in the steering than my Harley Edition Ford. The 4wd auto feature is great! Buying a '02 LS ext cab Z71 with only 15k for $19977 was a great deal in my area!

Driver side rubber weather strip sometimes slips down.

I bought this truck this summer in July. The truck had 48,000 miles on it when I got it and now has 55,000. I havn't had any real major problems with this ride. I did have one light come on telling me to service 4WD. I took it back the next week and it was fixed. I have noticed some weird noises coming from the steering shaft/box. THis is a humming noise when turning and sometimes the front end pops lightly when going over bumps. Other than that, this is a great truck. I have read some of the other reviews for these trucks and noticed some negative ones. I don't know what these people are talking about. THis truck is very dependable and i havn't had any problems at all. It still drives like its brand new. As far as people saying the transmissions shift hard on these trucks... mine shift very smooth! I LOVE THIS TRUCK!

This truck will out pull any other gas with the 8.1 liter gas and the allison tranny. It is 4x4 and we have had no problems with it and we do everything with this truck plow haul dirt see how its a dump truck and pull 20,000 pounds on daily bases and no problems and people who put chevy's down dont deserve to drive one if you dont like it dont buy one. We have 4 chevy trucks and 2000 2500 Chevy LS 4x4 with a v plow and a 1997 3500 with v plow and 1999 chevy Silverado 1500 LS 4x4 and 2001 2500HD LS Extended cab 4 door and none of you fords or dodges will roll with that big block 8.1 liter. All truck have been driven quite abit and been off road and we have had no problems with any of them all but the 2001 have push button now grinding sounds. My dads side has fords and our chevy with the 8.1 was pulling 20,000 pounds and the fords f350 with the 6.9 v-10 p.o.s got spanked back and it was only pulling 14,000 pounds so much for ford I will stay with my chevy's cause they have never let us down plowing or pulling or just driving. We have all the engins the 5.3 with 295 horse, the 5.7 with 255 horse, and 2 6.0 liters with 300 horse and the 8.1 liter big block with 340 horse and 450 foot pounds of torque CHEVY POWER

PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AFTER HAVING A 2000 MODEL WITH 54000 MILES AND NO PROBLEMS. MY CURRENT Z71 HAS A COUPLE PROBLEMS OTHER THAN THE HARD SHIFTING TRANSMISSION. LEATHER IS SUB GRADE. SERVICE 4WD LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL TIMES, SERVICED AT WANTZ CHEVROLET WHERE THEY RE-SET THE COMPUTER AND SAID THERE IS A COMPUTER SOFTWARE PROBLEM. NO FIX AVAILABLE TIL SPRING 2004. HAD THE HARD VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END BUT SEEMS TO GO AWAY AFTER THE SERVICE 4WD LIGHT HAS BEEN RE-SET. I THINK THE 4WD IS ENGAGING CAUSING THE VIBRATION AT NOMAL SPEEDS. THE WIND NOISE OR RATTLING WINSHEILD THAT MANY PEOPLE TALK ABOUT ARE THE TWO RUBBER AIR INTAKE FLAPS ON THE PLASTIC COVERING LOCATED ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. WHEN DRIVING LOOK OUT YOUR WINDOW LOWER LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE TO SEE THEM (EXTERIOR TO THE RIGHT AND LAEFT OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS.)THIS NOISE IS VERY ANNOYING!
