Strength:
At 100,000 miles it doesn't use oil, used synthetic oil maybe this is why? Drives great, handles good, lots of power. Now for the bad
Weakness:
I hate the automatic headlights. Rattle in steering as other 99's are known for,It needs new grease i 'm told. Clunking, cherping noise upon starting from dead stop, I'm told this is the slip yoke in front of the transfer case. My electric mirrors will only go out and no other direction. Casette tape doesn't work? And the most recent and annoying problem within the last month is when you start the truck when warmed up it will crank 15 to 20 times before it starts but when it is a cold engine start it starts right up, I've read 268 reviews at this sight and haven't read this problem yet? I had the fuel pressure, regulator checked and am told its ok and must be an ignition problem? Maybe a crank sensor? Oh did I mention I hate the automatic headlights!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5.3 motor has lots of power, couldn't ask for more in a truck. Compfortable to drive. I like the 3rd door. 14 mpg, I'd like to see 16. Suspension, Engine, Steering,Constantly At The Sevice Department With One Problem After Another. I purchased this truck new I would not recommend my worse enemy to purchase a Silverado Pickup. I've had one problem after another. My next vechile will be a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. I've had the following problems; 5.3 liter engine on cold start up's has piston slap,Ive been informed by the dealer the piston slap's around in the cylinder wall until the piston expands when it heats up then the noise goes away.Transmission rear seal replaced it was leaking. Steering intermit shaft replaced, and it has just begun to make a clunking noise once again, so back to the service department once again.Power window motor replaced. Front suspension at times makes a clunking noise, sevice department can't seem to find the propblem.Pasenger door making a scrapping noise when opening and closing.Vibration throughout truck at 1200 R.P.M. (GM)ENGINEERS state this is a problem on all 1999 through 2002 Silverado's, the problem is the modules left frame.Rattling noise around winshield. Can't remove spare tire extension rod won't fit into the device to lower spare tire, back I go to the service department again.I went through (GM) and Arbitration to get a replacement vechile or my money back I paid for the truck, they denied my request.I will never purchase another (GM)product ever again.I would not recommend Disch Motor Group for sevice.I haven't been to there service department in about one year. I've been to another service department within the last year and the service is much superior to DISCH MOTOR GROUP. Similar Products Used: 1989 / 1992/1995/All Chevrolet Pickups |

Strength:
Gas milage, smooth quiet ride, reliability so far at 32k miles. Good back seat room in the ext cab version. Very well appointed with options.
Weakness:
Too much interior plastic parts. No squecks or rattles yet but this could change as truck ages. I got a great deal on this full size Silverado with the ext cab 4 door in 2wd. It is the LS middle of the road version. It is very well appointed with all the nice features of a luxery pick up. I now have 32k miles on it. Power everything including the front buket seats. The styling is very imppressive in my opinion and chevy has done a pretty good job of mainting a work truck look with a stylish and luxury appeal. The ride quality is awsome for a truck !Very quite and little wind noise. My truck has the mid size engine option in the 4.8l V8 with 275hp. More than enough power and great gas milage. This moter is the most quite v8 I have ever NOT heard. Its so quite at idle speed its almost immposible to know its running without looking at the Tachometer. You can barley hear it when driving. Anyone who has drived as a paaenger always comments about how smooth and quiet the ride is on this truck.I kid you not, I have tracked my gas milage on and off for the past 2 years since I bought the truck in Oct of 2000. Around town and commuting to and from work I am getting 18MPG !!!!!!! On the hiway averaging 65-70mph I am getting 24mpg !! These are great numbers and I have the documents to proove it. My only problems were 2 things so far. 1 was the clunking coming from the steering colume. Which chevy has a tech notice out on and the dealer fixed. The other was the gas peddle would stiffen at crusing speeds. This also has a tech notice out an and was easily fixed by the dealer. My pnly other complaint is the interior platic. I wish they would cut down on so much plastic parts for the dash and center console. Similar Products Used: Ford Bronco, Chevy Astro |

TRANSMISSION!!!! I've had this truck for 3 yrs. Nothing but problems for me. Dealership and Chevrolet hard to deal with. Engine knocking noise, transmission slips on take off, door seals fall down, interior noise. Great motor but the tranny SUCKS!!!! I've had a new transmission installed at 33000 miles (after getting ugly and a lawyer involved). Now at 42000 miles problem is reoccurring and dealership says "it (transmission) doesn't have a problem" We can't make it reproduce the problem. How would they know?? They do not drive it everyday. They may test drive for 10 minutes. Problem doesn't happen all of the time but enough to aggrivate me and wonder what kind of quality this is. If dealership would fix problem with transmission I would be happy. Similar Products Used: 97 GMC SONOMA |

While I enjoyed the feel of the vehicle, I have had nothing but problems from day one. It has a 4.8L V8 and no power. I mentioned the problem the 2nd day I had the truck and was told by the customer satisfaction manager that it should clear up by itself. Now the truck has 650 miles on it and has been in the shop for almost 2 weeks. They are tearing the enging apart. The dealership has not tried to offer an exchange vehicle and in my mind should be marked as a dealership with no morals with regards to customer satisfaction. |

The diesel now has 12000 on it. I have a very smooth running and riding truck with all the power I could need. I will be towing a 12-13k 5th wheel camper in the coming year and I know it is more than able to do the job. With a full load, Suburbans don't ride this good and it is 4 wheel drive. 4 wheel discs are great! Diesel and Alison tranny are unbeatable.
Weakness:
As of yet, none to report After two years of research and test driving Ford, Dodge, and Chevy Diesel trucks a few different times, I bought the Chevy and would do the same thing again. Been driving various manufacturers truck throughout the years and this time Chevy has it right. Dodge is way to noisy and the ride wears on you during long trips, but it is a rugged truck. Ford is noisy but the ride isn't bad. I almost went with the Ford, but the Chevy finally won out. I work this truck and it just keeps wanting more... I'll never go back to gas.. Strength:
Very powerful engine. Love the interior space and comfortability.
Weakness:
I really hate the sound of rattling noise the engine makes when cold. I called the dealership to ask why such noticeable noise during warm-ups. They told me that this was normal, apparently these new model trucks come with regular engine lifters (not haudralic). I am still skeptic and dont trust these people. Hopefully the engine wont break on me because of this. I like the looks, both from the inside and outside. Very luxurious looking. Similar Products Used: First time buyer of a truck |

Rear differential. interior noise. Bought this truck new from dealer. Roomy interior. Like the 350 engine. Cab noise began increasing around 40,000 miles. Reliable. Now have 80,000 miles and spent $1800 on a new rear differential. I had rear dif serviced at 30,000 and 60,000 miles, didn't do any good. Similar Products Used: 1992 S10 Blazer |

#1...sterring clunk #2...engine knock on cool weather starting #3...rattley doors and interior i test drove this for about 10 miles, and fell in love with it.....If i would of had the chance to drive it for a week or so, I probably would'nt of bought this truck. overall it is a good looking truck, nice leather int, but crappy plastic to compliment it..rattles alot...has good power, trans seems to be fine,,,so far. biggest prob is with the steering clunking when you run over bumps or turn sharp, and cold weather engine knock... both of these probs seem to be engineering flaws or so im told..
