Strength:

the 4.8 is a good base v-8 with great gas mileage and with 270 hp it should do the job for most everyday use.recommend the locking diff for both 2wd and 4wd also the skid plate option and the on/off tires are a must for any trucks in snow country.the 4.8 is so quiet i don't even know its running half the time.

Weakness:

have a slight vibration in the rearend between 42-44 miles an hour since day one, service dept can't seem to fix.transfer case gears broken on the very day i picked truck up at dealer, in shop 2wks. cheap plastic liner behind bench seat on cab wall vibrates in cold weather. spare tire would not crank down until replacement handle was sent by gm.

i have a 2000 silverado with 18,500 miles. i ordered it new with the 4.8 engine ,reg cab ,4x4,245-75r16 on-off bsw road tires, locking diff, skid plates, fender flares,hd susp,4-sp auto. this has been a great truck. i spent the last three yrs renovating my house and i could not have done it with out this truck, it hauled everything. its also used as a search and rescue vehicle pulling trailers and equipment with no problems during any of these jobs or call outs.this is my 10th truck and i"am extremely pleased with its proformance, in fact a just ordered a 2003 with the same options.

Strength:

The styling of the 2003 series is a great improvement. I went with the extended cab. The contoured rear seat is soo much nicer than the competition. With the bench seat up front I can seat 6 easily. With kids, make it seven - since ou can shut off the air bag. The 255 tires with aluminum rims and tow package look strong and perform as well. The steering wheel controls are inexpensive and functional. The ride is better than my car. The 4800 V8 is everything you'll need for normal wear - spend the cash you save on the big motor for the power seat and other comfort options - especially if you drive a lot. The gas mileage is as good as a 6 cyl iin the smaller 4x4's (mine is a 4x2). If you are buying in MD, call Sport and ask for Gary B. He knows his trucks!

Weakness:

I haven't found any yet.

As always, the best way to buy is to order what you want. The wait time is so short it's worth the wait. My dealer searched all over, but at the end of the day, this was THE way to go. I'm glad I did.

where to begin crappy tranny piston slap crapola customer service gas pedal sticking ABS went south transaxel yoke chirping crappy plsatic interior

To all the Chevy fans out there (including myself) time to look other places for a decient truck or until chevy can produce another new dependable one. This truck bites hard core, no dout about it. I have had nothing but bad things happen and even more importantly the worst coustomer service i could imagine. I have had the ABS go out at 60k, the rear chirping sound was finally fixed, there was something wrong with my front axel, something needed to be greased but no grease inserts and $1500 later finally fixed. The gas pedal has been probly my worst nightmare, truck has been in the shop over a dozen and a half times for the same thing. I got in a wreck little while back, semi's retread blew (to ant semi drivers out there, i know retreads are cheaper but they are more dangerous than you could ever know) and almost went through the windshield almost killing my wife, i dont think chevy for the windshield either i think God, but it is two months later and all the repairs are not done yet, i still have pieces of glass blow out of my dash, plastic crappy interior falls down and my rear view mirror still has no cover over the wires and looks very trashy, i would also like to have a word with the tech that put in my windshield that makes a high pitched noise when on the highway, and oh yea there is that pesky piston slap in the mornings when its cold outside. transmission slips constantly and chevy says there is nothing wrong and cant reproduce.

Strength:

Nice strong motor. Powerful climate controls. Enough room for four six-foot plus guys. Impossible to overload. Killer styling (for 2003).

Weakness:

DINKY TIRES!!!! What a joke! Build quality. About 7000 overpriced, across the line. Needs deeper gears- 4.30 or 4.56 with 6.0.

It seems to be a very good truck. It has some detail issues- pieces of trim just fall off the interior and exterior at random- the first with less than 500 miles. The motor is strong and smooth, but loud on cold starts. The cab is roomy and comfortable. I really liike the vinyl/rubber mat interior- thats why I bought the base truck. It seems to me, though, that Chevy could have put a better stereo in a truck with a sticker of almost 29,000. AM/FM?

Gas Milage (13mpg city), dash has rattle, systems are complicated.

I just bought this with 50500 miles on and it seems to be in excellent condition. It makes a few noises here and there but what real truck doesn't? Nice ride for what I paid for it. Saw others complaining about noises its a truck not an suv. Interior is comfortable. lot of options for an LS. Chevy's are awsome Trucks.

Strength:

Good styling, rides great, lots of power.

Weakness:

Engine - Piston slap. Transmission - hard to find shift points in cold weather until it warms up. Various rattles in interior trim. Did I say Piston slap already???

Over all I'm happy with the truck. This is my first 4X4 pickup truck. It rides great (smooth). I've had a few problem with it. Rattle in the steering column. Dealer replaced it. Stiff accelerator pedal. Dealer replaced throttle body. 24,000 miles started making a noise like a bad lifter when starting from cold. Dealer and GM says it's piston slap, but won't hurt anything. It seems to be a common thing. They offered to extend my engine warranty 24,000 miles/2 years. Just hope I can sell it with it making the noise or find a cheap fix. Next time I'll try the Duramax Diesel.

TRANSMISSION // A RATTELING IN THE DRIVERS DOOR //

I HAVE THE Z-71 off road package. It rides good for the beafier suspension. But, but. I have had the 4x4 electric switch in the dash replaced and the transmission looked at for slipping. It only has about 13000 miles. Hearing the horror stories just makes me shrug. i thought I was buying a dependable vehicle. NOT.
