Strength:

Good power, and mileage. Best auto 4x4 system I've ever seen. Twice the room in the back of the extended cab, compared to competitor's trucks. Excellent handling and braking that Ford and Dodge can't match.

Weakness:

Ok I admit it, plastic dash really sucks, discovered that if I put slivers of cardboard into dash between dash and pillar, this will stop annoying squeeking.

This is a great truck! Have the 5.3 motor, and not only does it scream, but get the best gas mileage I've ever seen in a 4x4 truck. My truck is a 1999 model, and it still has more stuff than my friends new 2003 Ford F-150 with the 5.4 motor. He can't get over 14 mpg, I routinely get almost 17 mpg, and over 20 on a trip. Also here's some advice for you Chevy owners. I've heard all kinds of complaining about these trucks shaking when coming into contact with rough pavement. Well guess what, Ford's have the same problem, any time you put an independant suspension on a 4x4 this will happen. Mine never did it until about 40,000 miles. Put new tires on, now it's as smooth as ever. Bottom line is, (and this came right from a GM service tech), you have to keep tires rotated, and keep good tires on to avoid this problem. I guess you idiots still driving Ford's can use this advice also. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I had a 1999 Ford F-150, until the damn suspension broke while going down the highway for no reason, and damn near killing me in the process. Found out this is a MAJOR PROBLEM with these trucks, but don't take my word for it, go check the web at the complaint station.com.

Strength:

Nice looking truck. Good power and outstanding Allison tranny (great for towing and great braking power). Nice leather seats. XM radio is outstanding. Quiet ride in the cab - even with the diesel engine.

Weakness:

RELIABILITY is the worst. I've had other trucks with over 100,000 miles on them that were much more reliable than this truck. I hope it can't get worse. So far the radio has gone out, the A/C has gone out, the middle console got a stress crack in it, a power window stopped working, and the 4WD doesn't work anymore (and they can't even fix it). GM WILL NOT BACK THEIR VEHICLES UP IF YOU GET STUCK WITH A LEMON LIKE THIS!!!

This is the worst truck I've ever owned. It's a 4WD diesel LT crew cab model. It has just over 4,000 miles on it. It's been to the dealer service dept. 5 times already. They've had it for a total of 10 days - and they still can't fix the 4WD problems. The problems range from inoperable pwr. windows to transfer case problems. The truck was trying to throw itself into 4WD low range for awhile. Then it locked itself into 4WD (I didn't know it and the indicator lights showed 2WD). Now the 4WD is out because the dealer finally just pulled the 4WD fuse and gave the truck back to me because they couldn't fix it (they had it in the shop 4 different times for this same problem). Now I'm waiting on GM to figure out how to fix the problem. They say it's an "encoder motor", but they don't know how to fix it. The service manager at the dealer says it will be weeks before they figure it out and make a part to fix it. I finally reached my limit and called GM "customer service", which should be called "customer lip service" because that's all you get. I told them the truck was a "lemon" under State law and they said they didn't know what the lemon law was. I offered to send it to them and was met with silence. I asked for an extended warranty and they refused. I then asked them to buy the truck back and they refused. My next phone call will be to the State Attorney General's office. If you buy one of these trucks beware if the "Service 4WD" warning light comes on. I'm beginning to find out that it's a widespread problem and I think they don't want to deal with it. I'm going back to the Ford with a Powerstroke as soon as I can dump this Chevrolet lemon.

POWER, POWER, QUIET, GREAT RIDE, AND HANDELING, ROOMEY, 23 MPG WITH THE 4.8 V8 ON THE HWY AND 270 H.P. CLASSEY HIGHEST RESALE

Weakness:

HIGHER COST, PLASTIC DASH, SMALL FACTORY TIRES [EASILY FIXED]

tried the new dodge had a sucky motor 4.7 and the hemi was not in the 1500 yet, also the dodge ride was not a quiet as the chev tried a 02 ford f 150 terrible power from the 4.6 v8 a joke really and the back seat was like a penalty box, a bit noisey to, the chev had the 4.8 whick i LOVE 23 MPG ON TH HWY. AND VERY JAMMY TRIED THE 5.3 DID NOT NOTICE A BIG DIFFERANMCE IN POWER a little more torque, the chev had by far the best and quietiest ride, equal to the tundra, in that dept, but im 6ft 4 in and the tundra made me feel like pee wee heram in the cab, and well no back see for the kids, and it was overpriced, i have had no problems yet with the chev, 59000 miles [i do alot of hwy miles] love the power seats and to me the chev has the nicest seats in ANY TRUCK, the dodge seats felt primitive, for long raod trips cant beat the chev for milage, comfort [the bakc seat is roomy as good as the dodge easily, yes the chev cost more than dodge or ford, but i felt it was worth it for the quality and the superior drive train, i have installed a k&n air filter and am getting dual exhaust and a chip, to get 300 hp just for fun, if the new nissan titan would have been for sale i would have looked hard at it as i read its a very superior truck, but for now there is no doubt the chev 1500 4x4 ex cab is the best truck for the coin, and i tried them all and spent months researching and talking to chev owners, try them all carefully, and decide for yourself IM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS TRUCK, i have owned dodges [primitive trucks, and the 97 and newer fords very boring truck and the motors are anemic.

My F-250 has tremendous pulling power and would kill any chevy or dodge custom truck in a tug-of-war......chevy sucks and has the worst quality..I have nothing against dodge.

Weakness:

Let's see.....the 16 quarts of oil it takes to fill it up.....But who cares..I have all the power i need...I pull trailers with 25,000lb tractors on them and i have no problem what so ever.

Ill be honest un like the chevy dealers that go in and write bad ford reviews....I am a ford man and will never change...chevy sucks..purchased a silverado because they didnt cost as much as ford trucks(which was a big mistake) and about 20 min after i bought it the check engine light came on..took it back to the dealer and they said they couldnt find anything wrong and from then on i had nothing but problems with it..5 months later i traded it on a new F-250 SD(best truck ive ever owned)and have not had one problem with it yet.

Strength:

handles good, like the auto 4x4 on slick roads, good power, good mileage 16-18

Weakness:

noisy interior, door rattle, rough idling, cheap plastic, window don't work

First time I used it "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Service guy said there was a slight misfire and to put some injector cleaner, well I ran a tank through and it didn't do a damn thing and the light came back on. Next the extended cab door plastic cracked and got a hole in it, just from barely hitting it with my knee when the door swung shut on me. Now the passenger window won't go up, and its the middle of winter.

Gas mileage:(

this truck is great, I have an extended cab shortbed Z71....it's got the 5.3 litre V8 as well as 20 inch wheels that came from the factory....It's also the new blue color from GM....Arrival Blue!....there isn't a head that I pass that doesn't turn...not to mention the performance that it has....if you are looking to waste rubber this truck has no problem as all....and also for all you people out there looking for a superior supercharger for the 5.3 look no further than Kenne-Bell...I'm proud to say my Silverado is a true Lightning Killer!

I bought this vehicle in 1990 brand new. I had minor problems with the A/C but other than that it was a fantastic truck. The transmission went out at 215,000, everything else is factory. Excellent truck.

Strength:

Excellant interior, exterior. Plenty of "toughness". Extremely dependable. Options are great. Good engine and automatic transmission (with tow/haul option). Very comfortable for long trips and around town.

Weakness:

The next Chevy Silverado will probably have a diesal engine. The gas engine is not shy about fuel consumtion.

I have a 4WD Chevrolet Silverado, extended cab, long bed, LS. This truck has the ride of a luxuty auto with the toughness to handle any range of weather (dry, rain, snow, mud). I call it my "Mountain limo.," Plenty of room. Full bed, and towing package, allows me the power I need. The 4WD (with automatic conversion is excellant. Use truck for work, hunting/fishing, hauling, and long trips. Heated seats, with power adjustments make long travel an ease. Would not hesitate to buy another Chevy truck (of which I am planning).

Weakness:

was not dependable.

Bought the truck brand new and within a few months things were going wrong. One night out of the blue the lights just quit working! The A/C went out. There were problems with the electric windows. The brakes went out at around 13K & we got rid of it after that! Also, my friend had the same year truck and her's modeled my truck's problems as well.
