Strength:
Great back seat, good looks, good fuel economy and plenty of power.
Weakness:
Stuff breaks constantly...material pulled away on driver's seat, fuel gauge does not work($925.00 to fix), power window went bad 1 month out of warr.,wears tires bad, front shocks needed replaced at 10,000 miles, Had front-end aligned twice and it still squeals and shakes on corners, replaced u-joints at 30,000 miles, running lights burn out constantly, driveshaft bangs and snaps like a 1969 work truck, seat belts get stuck...I could go on but I get depressed. Chevrolet managed to take the best truck on the market 1998 Silverrado and turn it into the worst 1999-2003 Silverado. I am stuck with this piece of junk until I can afford to trade the heap in on a Ford or Dodge! Similar Products Used: 1997 Ford F-150 |

Strength:
Large cabin Smooth ride V8 has a lot of power Good mileage
Weakness:
Quality could be be better - I've had to replace the U-joints @ 42,000 miles and the engine is running rough. Numerous safety recalls. A solid pickup. Comfortable cabin, smooth ride and good gas mileage relative to other full size trucks on the market. Problems starting to rear their ugly head at 40,000 miles.... Strength:
Nice ride
Weakness:
nuff said above, too maintenance intensive. Would compare it to a bad girlfriend that takes all your money and gives you nothing in return. I can start by saying that this truck is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I had to replace the ABS unit at 37,000 miles. The 4wd switch went bad, the Body Control Module was replaced at 55,000 miles and now I just sunk $1500 on a bunch of new engine parts. I may add that I couldn't buy genuine GM parts because they cost twice as much! So far well over $4000 in repairs over two years. A real hunk of junk. I don't even use my truck but to drive to work. Like a rock, what a joke. You'd have to pay me to buy another Chevy product Similar Products Used: 1994 Dodge Ram 1999 Dodge Ram |

Strength:
great for kids, trips. the cab has lots of room
Weakness:
to many recalls, at 37000 miles the abs module went (dealer would not cover because it was out of warrant) $700 item. at 42000 miles the gas gage went. at 80000 now the 4 wheel drive module needs to be replaced. this is not a dependable vehicle for parents who want to be safe when they are on the road we have been buying chevrolet products for years and have always been happy. until we bought this truck Similar Products Used: chevy lumina, 1194 chevrolet truck |

Strength:
The whole truck is a strength, I would recomend this truck to anyone looking for a good truck. I havn't had any problems, in 40,000 miles of hard city driving, offroad package is GREAT.
Weakness:
it only has Three doors, 4-door not standard in 99, and the 3rd door is on passenger side, so is less accessible for the driver, when i need to get to my tools i have to go all the way around my truck. I have the 5.3 V-8,Overall I love this truck, drove over 40K miles in less than a year used as a construction work truck, there is a lot of cargo room, very quiet interior, pulled many trailers ranging from 1,000 to upwards of 6,000-7,000. This truck pulls them uphill without much of a struggle in Tow/Haul mode. Strength:
Good gas mileage for a truck. Nice interior. Comfortable ride. Kids are comfortable in back. Lots of room. Like the flip up back seat to accomodate larger items.
Weakness:
Turning ability (none). Driver side wind noise. Gas gage isn't reliable. When you park it says 1/4 tank. Start up next time says Low Fuel and you're lucky if it comes up at all. Daytime running lights need to be changed with every oil change. Brakes rust out before they should. Less that 50,000 km and all brakes rusted and had to be replaced. Nice looking truck. Was real quiet when we got it. Had a Ford F150 extended cab, long box before this. I could park the Ford anywhere. The Chev doesn't turn worth crap and I end up having to park out in the middle of parking lots so I can make it out again. Gas mileage isn't bad for a truck. Headrests in the back are great for the kids. Ford didn't have this. Similar Products Used: Have owned Chev, Ford 1/2 tons and 3/4 ton Dodge. |

Strength:
Ride, space, mpg on trips 14-19 appearance, 3 yr warranty
Weakness:
wind noise, brake problems Overall pleased with vehicle. Any readers I would advice to watch brake rotors for signs of flaking rust. This may cause you to have to by new rotors, since they may not be able to be turned down. Also @ 35k put into 4wd and noticed noise in front end. had to have all bearings and rack & pinion replaced. dealer covered all expenses. This truck is only used very easily and no towing so just keep up with your dealer if you still have coverage under warranty. Similar Products Used: 1990 1500 x-tra cab 4wd |

Silverado 4X2/4.3L V-6
Strength:
Build quality- body very solid, no squeeks or rattles, even on rough roads. Paint finish and interior trim (mine is base vinyl) is well done. Ride quality is excellent, even with standard suspension. Road trips of 12 or more hours are no problem, due to comfort of the seats and cab layout.
Weakness:
None to report so far. Could not be more pleased! I ordered my truck from dealer in March of 2000, and now have over 102,000 TROUBLE-FREE miles on it. The V-6 engine always starts and runs smoothly, delivers 23MPG at steady 60MPH. The 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly, allows relaxed interstate cruising at 70+MPH with 3.08:1 rear axle. Strength:
Push button 4X4 works great. 4W AUTO works smothly.
Weakness:
Can not put a snow plow on the ext cab model. Is not available with the snow plow prep pkg. Overall I am happy with the truck. Lots of room. Very quiet ride. Rides better than most cars. Controls are very easy to use. I have 2 children in car seats and they fit great. Not sure how it is in the snow/winter driving yet. Similar Products Used: 1997 GMC 1500 reg cab. |

Chevrolet SIlverado
Strength:
Even with the six, pulls smoother than V8 Dodges and Fords. 4 doors Standard!! Roomy and easy to clean. Used hard and can take it. Tow/Haul mode is great. Don't know what 4 wd drive would be used for. Dealership has been there for me 110%. Haven't had to take this truck in yet, but last truck, dealership completely compliant with my every wish.
Weakness:
Biggest disappointment was the tires. Goodyear Wrangler RT/S which showed wear at 5K. Also lots of spinning out and fish tailing when not loaded. Changed to MAstercraft Courser CTs and went the entire winter wihtout any weight in the bed. Also AM/FM Stereo had to be switched out, wished could have bought without stereo. The truck is a base 2wd extended cab truck with the dog 4.3 V6. The truck can pull almost anything with the six. I may not be the fastest but I did not buy it for speed. Have had no noise trouble and engine/tranny have been fine. Used it to pull a new 4wd Dodge out of the snow this winter. After a tire change the truck as been impossible to get stuck. Used as a farm/work truck. 8000 of 16000 miles were with 2000+ lb trailers behind it. Love the truck. Similar Products Used: 2000 Chevrolet SIlveraod 4x4 Regular Cab.
