Strength:
reliablity, decent MPG. does everything I need it to do, still looks good.
Weakness:
2.2L a little short on power, wish I had the 4.3L. Bed not big enough to fit my four wheeler, but I knew that when I bought it. TIGER PAWS SUCK. Get some good all-terrains. Pretty good. bought at 45k, now 66k. No real problems. good maintenance= reliability. used to get 24mpg. set of plugs, wires and APC intake tube put me at 27.1 MPG.Upgraded stereo and spkrs.Never been in shop for anything. Outstanding truck, recomended to anyone. Similar Products Used: 1981 Datsun X-cab 2wd. 1988 Toyota 2wd. |

Strength:
dependable, it can carry a fair load .... climbs hills good ,easy to work on.
Weakness:
the 2.8 could have a little more power. back seats are almost useless. the vaccum type 4x4 is a joke. front axles break easy with enough 4x4ing. body rust is a problem. its been a good truck all around i bought it with 220,000km on it and its still going strong with 270,000 i adjusted the tv cable for higher gear shifting and more power. its got me around for the last couple of years quite well ....good off road machine with 31 inch tires and a torsion bar crank up and shackle lift. S-10
Strength:
It has lasted for 10 years! No major replacements of anything. The 4.3L V-6 is a great motor!
Weakness:
It does have a big rattle in the door. Dunno what it is but it is there. And also a rattle in the dash when the rpm''s are low, or a little above and idle. It is a little slow on take off and doesn''t like hills but beside that, it is ok. Hi, we have had our S-10 for almost 11 years now. The thing is still running STRONG! It was my dad''s but he recently bought a 2001 Silverado 2500HD. So he sold it to me for $1500. It has 146,250 miles on it. Similar Products Used: 2001 Silverado, 1998 Chev Express |

Extra Cab
Strength:
Hmmm, I''ll get back to you..... Actually, I had no complaints about the 4 cyl engine, even mated with the 4spd automatic. (By the way, I just don''t trust any American made V-6, I''ve heard and experianced way too many nightmare stories about them) The milage was unspectacular (I averaged 21 MPG in mostly city driving) because it is necessary to really put your foot in it to get it to perform. Still, it was peppy enough for me. (I did have the 4.10 rear axle, which makes a difference.) No mechanical problems in the 23000 miles driven before wrecking.
Weakness:
Paint is very fragile. Breath on the thing wrong and it will cost you $250 at the body shop. Tires (the Tiger Paws are useless on anything but totally dry roads, and downright dangerous on slick or icy roads. Airbags did not deploy in a rollover. Seats made my and my wifes butt go numb on any trip over 30 minutes. Bought the vehicle new in the summer of 2000. Gor a great deal with a $1000 cash rebate and 0.9% financing for 36 months. (I didnt have a house payment then, and the $530 monthly payment seemed do-able.) Had a Linex bedliner istalled, which I would highly recomend, unless you like the look of severly scratched paint in your bed. Noticed that the tires slipped alot during acceleration on wet roads. Didnt think much of it, then hit a patch of black ice on a country road one day. Ended up in the ditch and flipped 1.5 times. In my opinon there was enough damage to the front end that the airbags should have deployed but they did not. Overall, I was impressed with the fit/finish of the truck and with the lack of mechanical problems, but would not buy one again, seeing as how there are many better small trucks out there. Weakness:
tires (slip too much even if the pavement is barely wet) I think these tigers need some new paws if they want to grip anything -gas meter doesn''t show the correct amount 4.3 is all I need to say... has great power(even with the a/c on :) Totally impress with the power over the 4 cylinder. I love saying bye-bye to those stupid ford ranger''s and honda civic''s. Similar Products Used: 2000 Chevrolet S-10 2WD (2.2 4 cylinder) |

None. Piece of Junk.
Weakness:
Whole truck itself including the manufacturer. WARNING !!! This truck is a disgrace to the American Auto Industry. I have been in the dealer for 15 times. To name a few, 300 miles the steering wheel pulls to the right. Dealer told me that they would do an alignment after 500 miles. 2500 miles oil pan leaks. Radiator cap exploded, thermostat leaks, brake fluid leaks. Most of all it leans on one side (driver side) Chula Vista Chevy install a 1 inch shim to hide the problem. We went to BBB 2 times but it seems politics is the name of the game. Trade in this piece of garbage to a Toyota Prerunner. Similar Products Used: None |

everything-see above DO NOT BUY THIS TRUCK!! Miserable gas mileage (14-17mpg)Very loud clunking noise from front end when I stop or turn while braking (Took to dealer twice and they said there was no problem). Now that the warranty has expired, the clunking is worse than ever. Handle broke on 3rd door. Power steering resevoir leaks huge amounts of fluid but only intermittantly. Very rough engine when idling or cruising down the highway. Fuel gauge is hopelessly inaccurate, even after taking it to the dealer for service. Cover on catalytic convertor rattles everytime I accelerate. Cup holders are nearly useless do to there close proximity to the gear shift. Paint and windshield chips very easily.I thought the over engineered window shades were pretty cool when I first got the truck. Doesn''t seem so nice with all the other problems. These problems must only be with the newer models since I have friends with 95''s that run great. Similar Products Used: 86 nissan 4wd |
