I have had this truck since November of 2001, but has been in my family since 1995. It has 128,000 miles on it and runs great. Will really get up and go for a 2 and a half ton truck. Can outdrag most 4bangers. It has plenty of power for towing and just hauling ass. It is my first truck, and I love it. Have not had to replace much at all, except the usual tuneups required.

Strength:

Looks good and drives good and is comfortable for tall people.

Weakness:

Very poor quality control. Bad customer service from GM. Poor gas mileage.

The vehicle drives nice, but I have had numerous problems with it. It turns out that when Chevrolet assembled my engine they neglected to include the oil control ring on the #2 engine piston. The result of this was that my vehicle was burning oil like crazy. It went through 7 quarts of oil in 4,500 miles. I had to go through a long process below before the dealer would do anything to resolve the problem and when the finally discovered that the engine was defective they rebuilt the engine instead of replacing it with a new one. I paid a lot of money for a new vehicle and now instead of having a new engine I have a re-built engine. I have asked to speak with the owner of the dealership (Mr. Johnny Londoff Jr.) and was told he would call me to set up an appointment, but he never would even though he was reminded more than once. I also called the GM complaint line and asked to speak to the zone manager and have been refused. The story GM gives is that my engine runs good so everything is OK. This is equivalent to GM fixing a defective brake rotor for you by surfacing it instead of replacing it. Just like my engine it will work fine for a time, but it’s longevity is reduced. I had a number of other problems that the vehicle had to be taken in for as well

Model Reviewed: S-10 4x4 5 speed 4.3 V6

Strength:

It's fast.

Weakness:

Poor reliability, poor fit & finish, terrible drivetrain, no hauling ability in the cargo area.

This is the most unreliable vehicle I have owned. Presently has 77,000 miles. In the 2 years I've owned this car I have repaired the following: Transfer case switch Reverse light switch Ball joints Heater core Driveshaft seals Clutch line & valve Brake lines Rotors I am now getting a loud whining noise from the driveshaft. The clutch and transmission are horrible. Very clunky and sticky. City driving is a tiresome chore. Driving in stop & go traffic is unbearable. The first time I changed the transmission fluid, a 3" long spring came out with the fluid. Not a good sign. The interior is cheap and the controls are flimsy and poorly assembled. The rear end sags. With just a 100 pound load in the bed, the rear scrapes the ground. It is basically useless for hauling anything. Routine maintenance repairs are very difficult and time consuming. I can't see this truck getting to the 100,000 point without thousands of dollars more in repairs.

Strength:

That little 4.3L V-6 is a strong runner. Loads of torque from a stop. 0-60 in 7.5 Sec or less. Well built. Handles well for a truck.

Weakness:

Plastic Interior. Thumbs down on that. Seats are not very comfortable. Gas mileage is Kinda low. Likes gas!!!!

First off, I don't own one of these great trucks, but I do drive one a daily Basis. See, I work In security, and do Patrols throughout the South Part of the Bay Area. To be honest, I would Buy one, If I didn't already own a vehicle I like. Man, This thing Hauls ass from a stop, But has to work really hard for passing on the highway. Thats alright though, If you plan on Lots of City driving, then this is your Ticket ride. Passing in the 35 to 45 MPH range is well above averge. Handling isn't to bad either. I own a sports car, so I know Handling, and this has it. Corners very well, on dry Pavement. Over all, Not a bad truck. If you're in the Market for one, Consider checking one out and compare.

Hey, it's a truck.

First off, I bought the truck in New Mexico even though I live in California. Reason: New Mexico's sales tax is only 3% and it's only 48 bucks for license and registration!! This denies California's degenerate politicians and half-witted civil servants the opportunity to consume the tax money on stupid, wasteful projects. The truck is a honey. First thing, I had a spotlight and an extremely loud air horn installed. Plus, I attached a raccoon tail to the antenna. It gets a bit of notice and I can scare the stuffing out of erratic women drivers with the horn...hehehe. I do detective work and this is one of four vehicles I use for tailing targets. I usually paint (it's the kind that washes off with water) some business sign on both sides of the truck and one on the tailgate. One sign I like is, "Rudy's Emergency Liquor Delivery," which works pretty well, except one time when this Mormon lady had me tracking her husband and I had to park for three hours in the church parking lot while he was engaged in hanky panky with the female organist. The whole time I was nervous that my cover would be blown. It's got every option emaginable, plus the big 4.3 V6 engine with 190 horses and 250 lbs. of mind-blowing torque. "Ain't nobody gonna out-drag ya with this sucka." Once, a grinning, small-skulled lawn care guy with a backwards baseball cap in a Toyota Tacoma gave me the I'm-gonna-leave-you-in-the-dust look and reved his engine while it was in nuetral to about six-thousand rpm's. I decided to take him on. The light turned green, I hit the gas, laid a fifty-foot scratch and left that Toyota choking on burnt rubber. When that torquey little Chevy hit second, it lurched forward like a panther, even though it was already doing fifty. I'm impressed.

i dont know where u people doing your truck shopping but since i bought my s10 i have never had a problem with it. it is a 4.3l v6 with plenty of power and i do some towing and it tows easier and without a problem unlike my dads old f150 (has a dodge now) and my moms explorer (soon getting a durango) we are all proofs as why ford sucks. i have beaten out all the cars that have challenged me (mostly civics because people here think they are the sh*t, i think they are on drugs, an eclispe, mustang, an F150 (not a lightning) and a couple talons)

This truck gets me where I want to go, it saves gas, and it looks great.

Weakness:

The only weakness is the 2.2L engine is not very powerful.

I love this truck. I have had this truck for about 3 or 4 months and I love it. I love the exterior styling and the ground effects. I have a 2.2L four-cylinder but it is still a very realliable truck. I have put in 2 15 inch Rockford Fosgate subs in it and a 900 watt amp. I have also got a glasspack on it. The combination of these two variables makes this the hottest truck in my town.

This truck is great. We bought it in 2000 with 113000 mi on it and it still drives beautifully. We have only had mostly minor problems with the truck, like interior panels breaking and squeaks, but thats perfectly bearable. It drives great, goes anywhere offroad, and still accellerates very quickly.

Weakness:

That rattle is intolerable. It sounds like spark knock and it occurs frequently.

If you are considering a purchase of this vehicle please read ghostlight's review.Like he says, this truck has many admirable traits but that annoying rattle from the engine at 1800 rpm can be hard to live with.Chevy told me "it is normal" and "they all do that".If this is true then the other owners are much more noise tolerant than I am,since I haven't discovered much information about this problem on the net.
