Strength:

The powerful 4.3 v6, and the on the fly 4x4. Also the suspencion raise is a plus. Third door is very usefull. There is a lot of space in the cab.

Weakness:

I have had many problems with my ZR2. one is the wind noise coming from the driver side door. Two is that the reclining lever of passenger seat broke off. The seat was wearing out. The klunk in the rearend, and the klunk when I throw it into 4x4 when driving. The third door making noise.

I love my new truck, I have always wanted one of the ZR2s. I think that GM made a good product, because it is a big truck in a little truck's body. I love the on the fly 4x4. I love the car like interior, and all of the options that the ZR2s have, which is fully loaded.

Good looks,gas mileage,

Weakness:

wind noise, driver recline handle breaks even if a 5 year old pulls on it, noisy standard tranny and SLOW....but who's in a rush anyway?

I bought this truck new as a 99'leftover in Jan.2000. It has its querks but doesn't every vehicle? the 2.2l is slow but the truck was easy to lower. I have never had a problem. It has 35K on it now and it is paid for! that's the best part of it, though I would recomend getting the V6 instead.this is my 4th S-10...my last had 335,560 miles on it when I sold it..all original!

Fender Flares, 9 WARRANTY CLAIMS / REPAIRS IN THE FIRST 2 YEARS INCLUDING A NEW CLUTCH (and yes, I know how to drive a standard). In the end, when the warranty is up on this one I'll be going back to Nissan.

Overall, I'm happy with the truck....with the exception THAT GM ISN'T SMART ENOUGH TO MAKE THE FENDER FLARES WIDE / LONG ENOUGH. You can't even fit aftermarket mud flaps on this thing properly because the wheel well is too close to the tire. GM has had this same design on the Flares since '96 (I think) and they still haven't fixed it. A bigger joke is trying to talk to someone @ GM about this. After a fresh wash, drive through ONE little patch of water and it sprays everything right up the side of the truck and across the side windows. You tell me what you think that is going to do to the paint job after a couple of years. I took it "off-roading" once and did nothing but scratch the hell out of the side of the truck.

Strength:

RELIABLE! When this one dies, I'm getting another one. Great factory stereo. And the doors still shut like a new truck!

Weakness:

The interior's plastic door coverings. The a/c vents fell off one day and a few push buttons on the steroe fell off—but I found them in the floor.

I have put this S-10 2.3L V6 through it all—long hauls and tons of city streets! I bought it when I was a junior in high school (8 years ago). I have put over 200,000 miles on it and the oil never burns or comes out dark. It's primarily my work truck, so I'm constantly hauling tools and buckets of sheetrock mud, etc. Only the normal maintenance has been needed to keep "Ms. Bessy" trucking. In the last year I have replaced shocks/struts, clutch and the rear seal.

Strength:

Plenty of power in the V6 Great gas mileage (Averaged 2 mi. less than the I4. Well worth the money) Plenty of room in cab etc. etc.

Weakness:

Wind noise (Big woop! Who cares.)

I didn't give this truck a 5 star rating because i dont believe that there is a perfect automobile in existence. But, this truck is well worth the money. I will strongly recommend this truck to anyone out there who is thinking of getting one. But don't get the 2.2L (It doesn't have enought power for that size truck. Nor does any 4 cyl. in any truck.). Also, to all those people who have big and small problems that they just can't get over. It's called a lemon. Every manufacturer has them. I would also like to say again that no car/truck is perfect. For example: Who hasn't heard of... A Ford with radiator or fuel leak problems A Dodge with brake or misfiring problems A Toyota with front suspension support or electrical short circuit problems If you stay on top of and keep track of the recalls and service bulletins you won't have to worry about anything. Regular maintenance is a must (Read your owners manual). Last but certainly not least, I am currently studying to be an auto tech (One semester left). When you go to any shop, don't be a richard. We're paid to fix your car and thats what we'll do. But if you're a richard, than why would we want to help you then.

great torque,"can lay about a 50-60ft patch in first, about 10-15 in second, great gas millage about 20mpg, very roomy under the hood to work on the engine

Weakness:

at high speeds its kinda noisey from the wind, and its very picky with the way it runs,"depending on the weather it might run great, or it might run slugish"

i have 94 s10, with the first generation 4.3L vortec engine, its a great truck, i beat the living crap out of it and i haven't had one problem yet, the only thing that is bad is the anti-lock brakeing system in it, but that was an after market thing, i've put the K&n air intake, gibson exhaust, jet power module, helix power tower, and power pulleys. it responds good to all the mods, its a pretty quick truck now for what it is, all i can say is, chevy will live forever

Great power. 4x4 works awesome. (Manual transfer case) Hauls very large loads for such a small truck.

Weakness:

IFS. Needs to ride higher for a 4x4.

Purchased with 90000 miles on it. Put a clutch in it and thats all. Good power. 5 speed has good ratios for engines powerband. It rides just like a real truck should when empty.Decent ergonomics in the interior.

Model Reviewed: LS 4x4, 4.3L V-6

Strength:

-excellent torque -good gas mileage for a 4x4 V-6 truck (~20+ hwy)

Weakness:

minor mechanical issues: -windshield wipers are erratic -reverse lights don't always work -suspension is weak and rides low for a 4x4 truck -AC leaks refridgerant (works great otherwise) *Major problems in near future (~100,000 miles): transmission, clutch, suspension, bearings, pretty much all rubber seals, all going bad bottom line: good truck when it's new, but get rid of it before it gets too old unless you want to spend a lot on maintenance/repairs!

Good all-around truck. I bought mine used (and I think probably abused) with about 40K on it, and have since put an additional 50,000 miles on it with no *major* mechanical problems (that I have had to spend much money on - yet). Good power, comfortable enough ride for a truck. The extended cab gives you some room for your stuff, but don't try to put a person back there. I noticed that some of the other reviewers have mentioned poor gas mileage, but I can't complain about 20mpg on the highway from a four wheel drive V-6 truck - I have friends with Toyotas that get 15mpg on a good day. I did add a K&N airfilter and Flowmaster muffler, maybe that helps. Been a good truck, however, I forsee major issues in the near future: transmission fluid leaks, front differential leaks, front suspension components are worn, front wheel bearings need to be replaced soon (actually, integral to front hub on the 4x4's so get ready to spend $190 each if you have anti-lock brakes), clutch probably going soon... just not built to last.

Strength:

Lots and lots of torque from the 4.3L Vortec. This truck really hauls from a dead stop. Interior is very comfortable, with seats that have lumbar support to the easy-to-use controls for the 4WD and CD player. I bought the extended-cab version which is a plus if you have a few extra things you want to carry. The 3rd door is also very convenient when you have to retrieve something from the backseat.

Weakness:

I mentioned above that I had a few minor problems. One of those problems was a leaking oil cooler line, and the other was a significant amount of windnoise coming from the driver's side door just above the side mirror. These problems have both been repaired and the truck drives perfect.

I really like this truck. The interior is almost car-like. Very comfortable. The controls are very easy to use, especially the on-the-fly 4WD. I like anything that takes a simple push of the button to use. I have had a few minor problems so far, but all have been generously taken care of by the extended warranty that came with the purchase, and the very friendly folks at the dealership. They have been very helpful.

Model Reviewed: S-10 2.2 liter

Strength:

Durability, anything that can go 171k miles and still put up with my fishing trips has my respect. It also has a heater that could roast the devil. And here's the best part about owning a 94-02 S-10, they all look alike, I know that sounds bad, but on the rare occasion that I hose it off and clean it up (dates, etc.) I can easily pass it off for a much newer truck ;)

Weakness:

Well, off-road the truck never gets above 30mph, and it has great power in THAT range, but on the highway it shows it age and smaller engine, it just won't do more than 50mph over a steep hill. It also has an electical problem with the windshield wipers, they won't always go off right when I turn them off, but I've gotten a lot of laughs from my girlfriend telling her that it hates rain so I won't complain about that too much.

I bought this truck a little over a year ago and it had 160k miles on it. I had intended to just drive it until I could save up the money to get a newer truck, but I'm still driving it and it still runs the same after and additional 11k miles. I was never a Chevy fan but I'm impressed with this truck. I never baby a truck, a truck is a truck and it's suppose to go off-road and this one has, in fact it's gone a lot of places I wouldn't walk through and its never given me any trouble. I was planning on buying a Tacoma, and Tacoma's are good trucks don't get me wrong, but considering the cost of the Tacoma and the new-found respect for my truck, I think I'm going to buy a new S-10
