Strength:

Very comfortable, smooth ride third door hidden very well. great looks 4.3L engine has good power on top end.

Weakness:

hard to stop, feels like you are not going to stop in time. ABS brakes suck i don't think they work on the back at all. power wise off the line the 1991 2.8L sonoma I had, had just as much or more, and i have the 3.42 rear end gear. real pig on gas in cold weather.

I would recommend this truck to some one who likes to tinker under the hood and likes to find a good wheel tire combo, this truck has so much more potential than the amount it al ready has. Good on the street and at the track, haven't lost a race yet, look out mustang's you got a s10 on your ass!!

Strength:

this truck looks good and the new 2001 blue that chevy came out with turns all the girls heads. the bed is small but not bad. i just hauled alot of 8 and 10 foot lumber with no problem. the best thing about this truck is the way it handles in the snow and mud. 2 weeks ago, on three inches of fresh snow, i was driving all thru town with no problem at all..even speeding while other cars were sliding into the ditches. because of the extra cab more weight is distributed to the middle of the truck and therefore you dont have to run to get sand bags to put into the back of the truck every time it snows. the heated rearview mirrors is a major bonus. i think that it looks nice on the inside and not cheap like the dakota's do. it is also 4 to 6 thousand dollars cheaper than its competition. the overhead compartment with thermometer and compass make you feel like you are riding in style. it also is extremely quiet and drives great due to the extra 400 lbs. i want my truck to last along time. this truck has the 4.3 vortec 190 hp. and i love it. my last truck had the same engine and it had 201,000 miles on it before i traded it in and it was still running very strong. so i know that this engine and transmission will last longer than its competition cuz i have personally seen it do so.

Weakness:

there needs to be more room behind the second seat to store stuff and the driver seat needs to be higher off the floor..(but i am also used to and full size chevy)

i would defintely recommend this truck. it will last a long time, looks great and rides great even on long trips. even my mom will ride in it and she wouldnt ride in my full size chevy 1500. it is one of the best handling trucks i have ever been in, and on the fly 4 wheel drive is unbeleivable. i love my truck!

Strength:

I have to admit the smaller 4 cyl. angine is pretty peppy. The air conditioning is very cold. The handling apperas suprior to that of its competers and the aftermarket products are plentful due to the number of S10's on the road. The sheer number of S10's that I see on the road lead me to believe I made a wise purchase. The CD player works great! even in the dirt. I got a really sweet deal form the Dealer.

Weakness:

Well, with the 4 cyl. engine, I wouldnt want to race anyone.

Well, overall the truck has done a great job. It is comfortable and very realiable. I have noticed no prblems with the truck as I approch the 10,000 mile mark. I do notice a small noise in the transmission. This occours when the clutch is out, and dissapears when its depressed. I have told the dealer about this, they told me that they have looked at the transmission and there is no problem. The noise is normal. This worries me due to the fact that the mechanic that I have had for 27 years says there is some type of problem, and that mechanic is my father. So I will be talking it back to the dealer, and compare that noise with other new S10 pickups.

Strength:

Owned since 94 and has been fairly reliable with 72k.

Weakness:

BRAKES - Forget it, there are none. I finally got racing pads and shoes. This helps. I'd suggest finding someone to bolt on some rear disks. NO VENTALATION - The ventalation system just sucks! My main beef is that you cannot shut it off. Meaning there is no recirculation. This is WAY BAD when you are stuck behind an oil burner or in dusty conditions. This "feature" will keep me from purchasing another one. You can't ride in the vehicle with shorts on if it's at all chilly without putting the heat on. BIG LUMP IN THE FLOOR - There's this big bump in the floor of the passenger compartment. This is quite annoying to anyone that sits there. I'm getting tired of answering questions about something stuck under the carpet. And where do I put my feet? Leaky rear window. After nearly 100 years of making cars, you'd think they could figure this one out.

I paid about 14K back in 94. I like the vehicle, but it does have it's "personality quirks". These "features" would probably keep me from getting another one. I've got limited slip with the 4.3. I like the rear end but the ratio really slows it down to a crawl. So keep this in mind if you're considering it. Overall my complaints are quite minor and easily fixed at the manufacturers end. I'm surprised that the current models still have the same problems. This does not bode well for the company. Especially when you realize that there's a bolt up disk break rear end available on the Blazer. I don't get it....

Nissan, Ford, Big Chevy, Toyota. I like the Ford better. I would not buy another one till they fix my complaints, above. I have mentioned these problems to many prospective buyers. After a test drive, they find out I'm right, and bail for another brand.

Weakness:

Everything. 2.2 litre is rediculously underpowered, noisey. You can hear this truck coming three blocks away when the A/C is on. "Cheesey" looking dashboard, stupid headlight control. Handling is really, really bad.

At 3000 miles the ignition module failed, leaving me stranded at night on a busy freeway. Part of the windshield wiper blew off. Armrest has been replaced, but continues to pop off. Seat control broke at 6,000 miles. Fuel sending unit failed at 11,000 miles. Loud screeching sounds from front of engine began at 13,000. Dealer replaced waterpump, pulley (twice) and the alternator, noise comes back. I am so sorry I bought this car. I owned many GM's over the years, and this is my last.

Strength:

Not a drag racer, but the low end torque from the 4.3L V-6 is good. Trans shifts well, rides good. The seats are comfortable, I'm 6', 200lbs. Overall I like the truck.

Weakness:

Glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks the brakes suck. I feel like I'm going to have to cut a hole in the floor and stop like Fred Flintstone. Brakes are POS. Paint quality is poor, there are fish eyes and debris in the paint, and yes this is all factory paint. My best friends father purchased the truck new, and since new the truck needed the following items. Two starters, and an ignition switch. The truck was purchased new in September of 1994, and I purchased the truck several months ago from my friend after his father passed away. it only had 16,000 garage kepts mile on it and it was in show room condition. I paid 8500.00. The only reason I bought this truck instead of a Toyota of a similar year was the pristine condition. Hacving always owned import trucks, I'm not very impressed. It's a good truck for the money I paid, but there is something cheap about it.

If you have to have a small truck that does not have an import name, I would recommend this truck. My advise, spend a little more now and buy a Toyota or Nissan and have your first major break down like a clutch or the seat recovered a 250k miles.

Strength:

Unlike other people I like the 2.8 litre v6 its not really fast but it was not meant to be. The Transmission is geared low so it seems that the truck is underpowered. That is not the case Just after We got it we used it to haul 3 (six yard loads) of dirt, it did the job very well. Just after I got it I had to replace the radiator (used one). It leaked oil figured where it was it was the oil sending unit changed it no leaks. Heck it does not even use any oil at all its still clean when I check it. And yes it has a good oil pressure all this as 141000 miles. I also see complaints about the body, this one has excellent steel you hit this truck with your hand you might hurt your hand before you dent it. No Rust through.

Weakness:

for some reason gm makes the worst interior around so hopefully I can find some 3rd party accessories to make up for it. I do not like fords but the interior of a ford holds up much better. I also do not know who formulated the paint for the gm cars and trucks from 1980 to 1994 but it stunk I am fixing the truck up but because of the bad paint I will have to sandblast before I primer the truck. (luckily the only dent was caused by an accident before I got it, I found a quarter panel at the junk yard perfect condition (you could not buy a new one any better) it came off a s15 jimmy).

Since We got the truck we have used it for everything from hauling dirt to hauling kids. I am over 6 ft tall its kind of small but ok. The power is good with the 2.8 and automatic. Strong body, strong chassi, very little rust, no dents, uses no oil even after over 140,000 miles on it that makes it a good truck in my book. The only drawbacks are the interior and the paint but that is not what makes a truck go (which is more important)

Strength:

The main strength (and almost the only one) is that it proved to be a tough little truck. I rear-ended someon on the freeway at about 25 and the front bumper shifted. that was the extent of the damage to my front end. $500 dollars for a new bumber and brackets and back on the road. Otherwise there werent many strengths. But that kind of security is almost worth all the other problems.

Weakness:

Too many dang problems. Besides me i knew 3 people who had '97 s-10's and EVERY SINGLE ONE had the same problems as me. My first repair was at 1500 miles when the fuel pressure regulator crapped out and stuck open. Before i reached the end of the warranty the truck had spent almost a month in the shop very larger repairs such as a warped transmission valve body (common for this year model) a broken throttle cable, etc. I replaced the front brakes every 14K n the dime and the front end had problems with the suspension springs giving out. Finally at 65K i had the lower half of the engine rebuilt because the camshaft and bearings were scored. All this becomes real tiresome especially when you factor in the level of service you get from your local dealer.

I had lots of problems with this truck. I am a chevy fan and im on my third s-10 now, but stay away from the '97 model year. Things have gotten dramatically better for the general over the last 4 years.
