Strength:

350 engine, very reliable, can count problems on one hand, and they are minor, plenty of power and tourque. Rides and drives great. Awesome 4wd, never had to walk even in more than 6-8 inches of snow. Just a great vehicle and if I ever buy another, it will for sure be a Chevy.

Weakness:

wish the engine was a vortec, but still very strong. Wished it had an armrest. Only problems i've had was a tourque converter to go out (under warranty), electric window motor went bad on driver's side door at about 60 thousand miles, and windshield whiper delay control box went bad at about 60 thousand miles. So only real problem was tourque converter, the rest was MINOR.

bought brand new paied around $22,000, only thing it ain't got is bucket seats or power seats. But has everything else. Single cab. It's an awesome turck and I would recommend to anyone. Very hard to beat in power and reliablity. Great Truck.

Strength:

Looks great, rides smooth, clean strong acceleration. For a V8 w/255 hp Engine gets good fuel milage and has plenty of power. I had 32"x11.5" tires installed and truck still achieves the same fuel economy, around 17mpg highway and 15mpg in town.

Weakness:

Had to replace the fuel pump @ 75,000. evidently there is a certain amount of pressure required for the new vortec engine and this is a fairly common repair. Cost was around $350 w/parts and labor, not bad. Replaced starter @ 75,000 as well. This was an easy fix, I was able to do it myself w/out any difficulty and that way it cost less that $100.

I paid $17,000 in Oct of 1999. The truck had 62,000 miles. A reasonable price. I would recommend the truck, however, you need to comprehensively test drive and inspect the vehicle. Take it to someone you trust and have them run a computerized diagnostic. The new engines are very complex, be ready for some repairs that come w/ a pricetag. The vehicle's engine does not cater to the do-it-yourselfer. My Chevy now has 82,000 miles, I have mentioned each repair that has been made, some people might think thats to many but to me its not. I expected a few problems and have had them fixed immediately, once the truck is back on the road its as good as new. Hey, I saved $10,000 by buying it 2 years old, thats what I like.

86 Chevy k-5 blazer 4x4, 92 F150 4x4. Both chevys have been wonderful. My current 1997 is an absolute workhorse the power feels clean and effortless. My 1992 Ford had a straight 4.9L 6cylinder and the fuel economy was lower. The Ford didn't even compare when pulling or going up hills, it was a dog! My 1986 Blazer had th diesel engine, it pulled OK and had good fuel economy, however the horsepower wasn't there. There is a big difference in th ride quality and looks of the two chevys as well. I almost prefer the old interior, it seemed more sturdy, however, the exterior looks and durability of the 1988-1999 chevy trucks can't be beat in my mind!

Nice paint and interior.

Weakness:

fuel injectors go out
air cond unit went out
power steering unit went out.

This truck is driven less than 12000 miles per year. It is maintained per GMC. It still costs $300 to $1000 every 4 months. GM has been of NO help.
If you ask them why a complete air unit goes bad at 36,100 miles they can only smile. Want a good laugh, ask why fuel injectors need replacing on a regular basis. Need a total hoot, ask about the power steering unit.
Buy GM only if you can afford to get a new one every year.

Strength:

Excellent power and acceleration with surprisingly good gas mileage.
Excellent ride for a truck on and off road with Z71..

Weakness:

Sensor failures and bad injectors can cripple the truck without advance notice.
The front brake pads wear out fast around a small town, what happens when towing or living in a big city traffic?

Great power and acceleration around town and on the highway. Usually dependable except for, a defective oxygen sensor a few months after the purchase, a bad injector at 32,000 miles, and a bad steering EVO sensor at 34,000. The O2 sensor caused hard starting and triggered the check engine light. The bad injector caused the truck to barely make it to the dealer and the light finally triggered. I don't think it's a California problem as another reviewer thought. The bad EVO sensor made the truck feel like a tie rod had worn out one minute and returned to normal steering the next. Very irritating and hard to describe. Felt like a major safety hazard. I strongly recommend anyone that has felt this problem get it checked. Seemed to be causing other electrical systems to also have problems. Dash ammeter gauge reading low than normal, interior lights dimming, erratic idle. After the sensor was replaced everything returned to normal. Mention this to the service advisor if you have a similar phantom problem. Repaired under warranty.

The outer sheet metal on this truck and other ones I have looked at is easily dented. Too bad the outside sheet metal could not be the same gauge as the metal in the bed.

Front brake pads were shot at 34,000 miles. Not covered under warranty. Sounds like a routine problem for this truck. The brake pedal has never been firm, but gets the job done. Truck has a good ride with the Z71 package on and off road..

When new, the truck was averaging 22 MPG on four lanes or long stretches of two lanes. Mileage dropped, but has moved up again since being alligned. I'm hoping the EVO sensor replacement returns the rest of the missing MPG. The orignal off idle tire spinning torgue has returned with replacement of the sensor. The new Silverado engines are rated higher in HP and torgue than this 350, but you have to wrap them tighter.

The back seat isn't as comforable as the new Silverado. Not a good spot for an adult to ride. The lack of the fourth door on this model hasn't been a problem.

The electric four wheel drive engagement is excellent. Touch a button and go.

Spent a lot of time in the previous straight axle chevy pickups and blazers. The independent front end
provides a much better ride on and off road. The earlier trucks also had a fuel drinking problem. Use to get less than 10 normally with the full size Blazer. The 97 350 engine is very efficient, but I wonder about the injectors. The old 4 Barrel Blazer seems pretty simple compared to the newer engines. Find myself wishing for a simpler time without so many sensors.

Model Reviewed: C2500 ext cab

Strength:

Good low end torque w/454. Pulls 9000 lb boat very nicely.
Exhaust sounds great with the addition of an echo chamber (big chrome tip).
Clean lines, nice semi-aggressive/classy look with Progressive rims and
BF all-terrain tires, alum bed rail covers and bed liner. Very roomy in front with capts' chairs. Rear seat room as good or better than the few others I've experienced.
Drives like a car on the highway with only an occasional bump reminding you it's a truck. Overall, a very comfortable quiet ride.
Large, easy to read gauges day or night.
Nice stowable cup-holder right in front of a/c outlet. Keeps your favorite canned beverge nice and cool!
Stock stereo sounds pretty good.
Large, usefull mirrors. Good visibility.
30+gal fuel tank.
Auto transmission shifts perfectly. Dosen't kick out of OD unless you really gun-it. My friends Ford F150 is constantly hunting for the right gear.
4:11 rear-end gives plenty of grunt, but still does well on highway with OD and torque-converter lock-up.
26 quart cooling system. Engine oil cooler, tranny oil cooler, power steering oil cooler.
Stop-and-go traffic and 110 deg Texas heat dosen't phase it.
4-wheen anti-lock brakes work as advertised.

Weakness:

Serpetine-belt tension-adjustment-pulley bearing froze at abt 100,000 miles
. Pulley was made out of plastic, or some non-metalic substance! Pulley desintagrated. Luckily, I coasted into a auto parts store. Almost stranded. (My friends '95 C1500 has a metal pulley)
Starter solenoid failed shortly after pulley. Stranded!
Replacement part had to be ordered in a town with a almost a million population! I called everywhere. Dealership would only sell entire gear-reduction starter assy. ($350+)
Water pump began leaking out the seep hole at about 110k miles.
Replaced it and all the hoses.
Did have a problem with heater hose replacement.
Half of heater hose is metal, and the other end is rubber.
On rear of intake manifold where the metal end of heater hose connects, there's a big strange-looking water fitting. The fitting is made of some pretty soft metal and it shears-off flush when you attempted to un-screw it from the intake.
I eventually got it out and replaced with stainless nipple that accepts a normal 5/8 hose. Next time, hose replacement will be a snap.
Left front brake pads wore unevenly. Inner surface of rotor was gouged long before outer pad wear indicator tang would have hit rotor. Shop was able to machine rotor smooth It's ok for now, but it's too thin to machine it again.
Large turning radius, but usually not a problem.
Gas milage 12.2 MPG with mostly highway usage. (65-75 MPH)
10 MPG pulling 9K lb boat/trailer.
When filling up, gas gauge goes way past the full mark and dosen't come down to the full mark till I hit about half-a-tank, otherwise it's ok.
Wipers, just recently, began to malfinction.
They would go to slow-speed, continously-on if "mist" or "delay" was selected. When selected to "off" would stay on for another 30 swipes or so, then would park in some random position. After 5 mins or so, they would move to the normal park position. Wierd..
Wiper motor circuit board was replaced after a recall was issued for the possibility of them not coming on at all due to cracked circuit board.
No airbag.

No expensive ($150+) repairs in over 70K miles since I owned vehicle. Odometer at 130K+ miles now.
Still no slop in front suspension and steering.
Drivetrain still feels nice and tight.
Enigine runs like new. No blow-by. Solid idle.
No leaks anywhere.
Paint and trim has held up nicely.
Overall, very happy with truck.
If I could afford a new one I'd buy another one just like it.
If I didn't need a 3/4 ton truck to pull a heavy boat, I'd buy a C1500 ext-cab since they're more economical.

Good simple work truck, quiet on the road, turns tightly, brakes nice and firm. Good milage for truck this size.

Weakness:

No airbags.
18 weeks delivery for long box 2wd ext. cab from GMC
Pulls to the middle of the road but only occassionally - can't figure it out.
A real pain to wire for fifth wheel trailers. Ford and Dodge are easier to do.
Windshield wipers stick up and obstruct the view for short people.

We paid $27,750 Canadian Dollars. Would not recommend it for safety sake because it doesn't have air bags and it is not an option. We picked this model because we felt it would be safer having only two doors - the insurance premium is cheaper too, and there have been no side impact studies on the four door models that we could find. But without the air bags - well....

Good truck for farm work. The truck bed height is lower than the new Silverado and Fords, which makes it easier to load and unload. However, Dodge 2WD is just as low. Rides well without too much bounce, tows well too. Turns tight making it easy to backup a trailer into a tight spot. Space in the rear is adequate for children, too cramped for adults for longer than one hour. Seems good on gas mileage empty, about 14mpg (canadian gallons).

Best tranny i can get the 400 series. Alot of room to work under the hood. Everything is all origional on the truck with 137,000 miles on it.

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage about 15 to 16 miles to the gallon. Fuel filter is a pain to change when it is rusted on, poor location for it. Cab corrners get weak due to the design.
