Strength:

Nice Power, excellent at towing, nice suspension package (Z71), nice highway ride, keyless entry is a handy option.

Weakness:

Can't take a sharp turn without squeling the tires or falling out of the seat, gas mileage is subpar (expected it though), some creaks and rattles, speakers aren't too great w/cd player,

Overall, its an excellent pickup truck. Ride is great on the highway and offroad it excels. Other than city driving and taking sharp turns, no REAL complaints. 5.7 is a great engine (Vortec), I'm pretty sure the 5.3 is better though, but wasn't available in 97.

Strength:

It has good durability, the quality is excellent and there have been no major problems.

Weakness:

Turning radius is poor. Air conditioner vent are useless at directing air flow. (and what ever happend to the vent window in trucks! I'd pay an extra grand for those back.)

This truck has consistantly done everything I have asked of it and out paced the performanced I had expected.

Strength:

Ride is excellent for a 1-ton pickup truck. 5.7 V-8 with 5-speed and 4.10 is QUICK! Gas mileage isn't too bad, either- average 16.5 hwy. and 14 city

Weakness:

Brakes aren't the greatest in the world- feels like you are steping on frozen sponge or something.

I do some trailer towing with this truck. At times, the load is VERY heavy. The good ole' 350 just never seems to run out of power. It has excellent road manners and handles alot better than the earlier C/K pickups that I have owned.
I have done several upgrades to this truck. I have added a factory CD player and new head unit to the truck (both of excellent quality, and the CD player doesn't skip, either). I also have added a split bench seat to this truck ( I found a brand new yukon take-out from an upfitter for practically nothing) It has the electric Lumbar adjustment which is important (I just had back surgery 9 months ago). I have had a few minor problems with it (brakes as mentioned earlier- equalizer valve was bad), and blew an intake gasket a few months ago. I contacted GM on that one, due to the complex nature of it, and they agreed to replace it for me with a small deductible. If you are willing to work with them, they WILL work with you! It was 6,000 miles out of warranty, and they fixed it, anyway. Overall, I would buy another one in a "heartbeat"!!! I recently installed new Michelin 10-ply tires around it and it really woke up the handling characteristics of this truck. They just flat out put the original General tires to shame. The only reason FORD brags about their truck sales is that they are comparing sales of ONE division of ONE company to TWO divisions of ONE company. Put Chevy and GMC's sales figures in one pot, and Ford and Dodge would be blown out of the water.

Strength:

Solid build. Plenty of power. Good gas mileage for a large V6.

Weakness:

GM customer service.

Bought the 1996 W/T model. Owned it for 2½ years without a problem then developed a vibration. The dealer jumped through flaming hoops to try to find the problem but failed. They brought in a rep from Detroit to look at it. He found that it was the engine (4.3L) that was causing the vibration and that it was inherent in that particular size engine and there was nothing that would be done about it because they did not consider it a legitimate problem. When I tried to call GM directly to try to get them to change their mind about fixing the problem, they basically blew me off. Shortly thereafter I traded the Chevy in for a Mazda 4X4.

In a nutshell, I was very satisfied with the truck until this little incident happened. I will certainly think twice before I buy another GM car. I'll give dealer customer service 5 stars but only 1 star for GM(Detroit) customer service.

Model Reviewed: 1500 extended cab LS

Strength:

Terrific ride. Great handling for a pickup. Plenty of power. Reliable, have had no problems, except lubricating the power window lift mechanism. Enjoyable on long trips. It is a great vehicle for highway driving, towing, and hauling. The extended cab rear seats are the most comfortable of all the extended cabs, and are tolerably comfortable for one-day trips for those six footers out there, although it is really designed for the kids. Additionally, for those comparing an extended vs a regular cab, get the extended cab, you will always use the back seat area to toss your stuff that you don't want or need in the front seat. Overall, just a great well thought-out truck, with a good finish in trim and paint. I have never regretted the purchase.

Weakness:

As with any full size truck, parking in mall parking lots is never fun. It is awkward getting out of the back suicide door without getting in the way of the front passenger. Plus, get the four door extended cab if you have a choice, I don't understand why Chevy would not put the fourth door in the beginning of production instead of the stupid three door configuration. Gas mileage could be better, but hey, it's a truck

This is my first new truck. I loved it on the first day, and after 45,000 miles in a year and a half, I still love it. It is good looking, durable, dependable and roomy.

Similar Products Used:

Much better ride and handling over the Ford and Dodge. Better finish than the Dodge. Miles ahead of Dodge and Ford extended cabs when it comes to back seat. Chevy Engineers evidently understood that their truck owners would actually want to put a human being in the back seat and not a tool box. I think that the new Chevy design is much better looking than Dodge or Ford.

awesome looks, tons of power, very nice ride

Weakness:

i hate the way the transmission shifts. it never shifts at the right moment .

the truck is a 95 with teh ext cab and Z71 option. I bought it for 16000 last year from a family obviously in need of money. it came with a total of at least several thousand dollars in mods, including a 6 inch lift, big tires, winch, gille guard, and every available option. i think it is so far the best truck ive ever had. no problems at all with it. when i bought it there was not a single scratch anywere (although there is now oops) and had obviously been very well taken care of. In the past ive had to borrow my uncles f150, which does not even compare to the chevy. i would drive anything else .

Strength:

tightness of body, good handling, 5 spd transmission

Weakness:

electrical system, ABS gives problems,

I bought the vehicle new in 1995 for $17,500 - I had to special order it as no one around here stocks a five speed.
I chose Chevy over Ford because I feel the Chevy is a little tighter in handling. There have been minor problems with the electrical system; however, the basic structure is a very sound package. I definitely prefer the 5 spd - it gets
17 mpg and I have control over the engine. That is absolutely necessary for off-road driving.

The first thing that got junked were the stock shocks - I replaced them with Rancho 5000's - this resulted in a major
improvement in handling. The Goodyear Wrangler TD (LT rated - the new ones have P rated tires) lasted 50,000 miles. They have been replaced with Pirelli's with nylon sidewalls.

As indicated, I'm one that really uses this thing off-road.
It has vinyl seats and rubber floor mats. The new ones are
$30,000 and up with carpets and luxury interior. My K-10
was ordered for off-raod use and it has done that. That's all I ask.
