Strength:

fast, powerful, extremely quiet for a diesel, comfortable ride.allison 1000 trans.shifts smoother and effortless as any luxury car I've driven.lots of space and compartments.

Weakness:

price, looks compared to ford or dodge.inferior sound system in the ls models.

great truck and best diesel on the market of the 2001 models(friends that own dodge and ford diesels agree about power and quietness).cat quick up to 97mph,then the governor takes over.

Drives and handles nice

Weakness:

Engine won"t return to idle at stop lights or between shifts (5 sd manual trans.) Idles as high as 2200 RPM Had problem since new. Dealer worked on this problem since new to no avail. Now that it is out of warranty they say it is normal for a standard shift. Very disgusting to drive esp. on hilly roads since you get little engine braking down grades.

Would not reommend, I have driven Ford standard shift 2001 model; engine returns to idle immediatly as it should, next 4x4 will be a Ford.

Strength:

Great truck! It has 220,000 kms and is strong yet.

Weakness:

1. Rusting on rear fenders.
2. Very bad antennas system.
3. The stock 700-R4 shifts too slow from 2nd to drive. kind of weak.

When I bought this truck it was stock but here are upgrades I have done to this truck to make a much better truck:
1. Competition Cam - 252H (might be able to try the 262H but that will lower the vaccum levels even more and computer may show problems but you should be alright, but fuel mileage will be affected for sure. The 252H still maintained a normal vaccum level at 19 Hg. Another cool thing about this cam is that power is increased greatly and mileage down the highway is the same as the stock cam. I get around 23 mpg at 105 km/h. But as for riping around the city... well the fuel mileage is hurt but it nice when you rip off the line and pass the cocky bastards in them mustangs who think, "its JUST a truck!"
2. MSD 8.5mm wires, MSD Cap and rotor
3. AC RapidFire Spark plugs
4. K&N filter in stock airfilter housing with 3 holes cut around the housing to allow more airflow. Air silencer and ducting removed.
5. 1:6 ratio self aligning rocker arms
6. TnT Throttle body riser plate & gaskets. This was a noticeable gain in bottom end power. it was cheap. kinda of a pain in the ass if you have the steel fuel lines. get line extensions it makes life much easier.
7. catyalic convertor removed, still have stock exhaust with only the muffler being the restriction. truck makes a nice rap at 3000-5000 rpm.
8. Gibson shorty headers. ( these headers silenced my motor crusing and all i can hear is my tire noise. Expensive though!)
9. New O2 sensor. Its important to make sure this sensor is in top shape because it will affect fuel delivery greatly thus how the engine performs.
10. New fuel filter. Keep the flow of fuel as high as possible.
11. i have NO superchip. still using stock computer chip. stock chip works very well with this setup, no errors have come up yet. have put on 56,000 kms since i bought the thing.
going to wait for tranny to go then going to get a JET tranny 700r4 with 40 mods and a shift kit & aux tranny cooler. then electric fans. Edelbrock multiport injection, and trick flow heads (really expensive but awesome heads), and 400 crank to be installed and balanced. all this is the upcoming plans for my unit. probably will take a year or two.

This truck is very, very responsive and im very pleased with it. For anyone who wants a reliable truck, is very simple to work on all areas of the truck, chevy is the way to go. Dont be scared to make modifications especially internal engine changes. Its fun and results can be astounding compared to the stock truck. i only gave 4 ratings for overall because of them 3 problems which are very annoying.

Decent ride

Weakness:

This pickup was very crappy from day one. We had many problems with it. When driving down the road there was a severe clunk in the rear end. We were driving down the road once and part of the dash fell down and was resting on the floor of the pickup. The seats were uncomfortable and there was a broken spring in the drivers seat. The pickup was underpowered (5.7L 350) to tow a 18 foot bumper pull trailer.

This pickup was trouble from the start. Neighbor also had 95 Chevy will many problems, along with needing a valve job at 20,000 miles. If you see one, DONT BUY IT!

Everything, a joy to drive to college everyday, ride good for a truck, extremely reliable, interior fit and finish even after 20 years. Lots of leg and head room even for a 6'4" man wearing a cowboy hat!

Weakness:

more power, only has I-6, great low end torque though.

I would recommend a Chevy to anyone, I didnt think Chevy's were good till I actually bought one, now I will never buy anything else (sounds like Toyota owners should drive one). Its pure brainwashing that japanese cars and trucks are better.

My truck has 332,000 miles on it, original tranny just went (no lie) and first engine went out at 250,000...second engine (short block so starter alternator, carb all from original engine) runs perfect so far.

I have owned this truck almost two years and it has broken down. My grandpa owned it since new and he almost never had a problem, by the way he just bought a new Chevy and loves it too!!!

I bought the truck new in oct 1992, and it now has 145,000 miles on, and it still runs like a clock. it always starts and is the most reliable vehicle i have ever owned . the maintnance costs have been minimal. the only work that "had" to be done , a water pump, 1 axel seal, 2 freeze plugs, "cat back" exhaust system. the truck still has the original rear brakes on it and the front brakes are only the third set. the tire wear has been great, and the gas mileage of the 4.3 litre v6 is good as well.I have made the truck work , including hauling dirt ,building materials as well as towing a boat and a 20ft travel trailer.the transmission is still solid .

Weakness:

valve seals. the truck has probably smoked when you first start it for a 100,000 miles. it doesnt seem to have much effect on the trucks operation.

i highly recommend a chevy truck to any truck buyer. they are very reliable trucks that are not afraid of a challenge

My truck has the 5.7L (350) with a taller cam than stock. I've put a Flowmaster exhaust on it to make it breath better. Let me tell ya...When you get into this beast you DEFINATELY know it....I LOVE RAW CHEVROLET HORSEPOWER!!!!

Weakness:

I can't find one weakness with this truck. It has 202,000 miles on it and all it needs is gas, tires (esp that right rear..haha), oil, and a good wash every now and then. This thing uses NO 0IL WHAT SO EVER between changes. CHEVY'S ARE TRUELY BUILT TO LAST!!!!

Yes i would recommend this truck or any other GM product. I also have something to say about GM special vehicles department. You guys are AWESOME. The Z-28 would smoke anything on the street or strip including that Lightning from Ford. I mean these guys have to have a SUPERCHARGER to get some hp and still will never be able to run with Chevrolet. I hope that Chevy produces the SS Silverado. That will shut down the storm of the Lightning without the use of a supercharger. And if you want to seriously risk your life slap one of those babys on a Chevy. That'll haul some real estate.
Peace

Nothin compares to this truck...It has killer looks that get compliments everywhere you go. Nothin sounds like a 350 with the right exhaust system (I highly recommend Flowmaster). If you need acceleration it has PLENTY to offer. Just an uncomparible vehicle

Reliable truck.
120,000 miles and still going.
Nice ride.
BAsic but nice interior.
I have the long bed (8ft bed) and that is really nice for carrying stuff.

Weakness:

4 cylinder power lacks. What do you expect though.
Had problems with several parts of the cooling system. I have replaced the radiator, heater coil and now have a leak in the head gasket.
Had to also replace one front rotor.

I would recommend a Chevy. I know that the newer ones seem to have a smaller cab so go with an extended cab.
I have not had any other major problems.
Nice ride.

4.3 liter engine has ample power and acceleration, body style is still considered stylish after 8 years, extremely reliable, does more than any vehicle I have owned in the past, roomy interior, comfort controls very accesible

Weakness:

transmisson replaced at 205,000 miles due to abuse most likely, minor electrical problems, hard cold engine starts on occasion,

I would recommend an earlier model c/k pickup like mine to anyone simply becuase they are more reliable than any other truck on the road today.
