Strength:

great interior ( no cracking or peeling )
fast for an older car
paint has not faded or cracked
you can put in a better stereo with ease

Weakness:

I have had a few problems with the battery and starter and thats it but that was due to normal wear and tear. really this car has not had any weaknesses.

This car is good looking and cheap.
The interior has held up very nicely.
If you are a first time buyer or just started driving this is an excellent car. It seems to have a lot of power for a 1986 more powerful than a 95 ford ranger. if you do not drive far everyday then this car is perfect. This car has been fun to drive and a great car to own.

Similar Products Used:

When I bought this car I only had 1200.00 so I did not have a wide selection but I did check out a 1987 nissan sentra and that car was nothing compared to my cavalier. I also tested a 1985 civic and that car was also a piece of s@#$ compared to the cavalier. ( like a rock )
I would recommend sticking with american made cars.

Strength:

Ride, it runs great, shifts nice and hard on the spot, unlike most factory GM's that tend to go out between 80K and 125K miles, holds its value pretty good. Bucket seats are awesome, and very comfortable

Weakness:

13mpg is not bad, but it lacks in power. The doors I have noticed on most GM trucks and vans make a lot of wind noise, something they hopefully have fixed. tranny went out at 125,000 miles, before I owned it, had steering problems and that was fixed, REAR MAIN OIL LEAK. That is something Chevy has a problem with, but I can live with it for now. 4X4 takes a while to engage, an easy fix is to put an electronic solinoid on it, like the newer ones have, and it shifts in right away.

The truck is awesome. I love it. I am a Ford man at heart, but for the money I had to spend and the year range I looked at, this was the one. I love it. It has fair power and it is fun to drive. I have Edlebrock Shocks all around, if you need new shocks, spend the extra money, nothing like them! I also have 177,000 miles on the original engine. The tranny has a mild shift kit and is lightly built up. That has around 50,000 miles on it. I do not like the independent front end on any 4X4, but it is a real nice ride. I am running on Micheline tires, and love them, I have nerf bars, Vipor alarm that has keyless entry and remote start. The truck is as solid as solid can be for how many miles are on it. I would desire a lot more power though, and better fuel economy out of an engine that is not too powerful. I suggest a Chevy truck for those who want a nice ride and a dependable truck, once the tranny is built up. But if anyone wants a work truck, buy a Ford Super Duty or a Dodge Ram with the Cummings Diesel. Stay away from Dodge automatics, except rumor has it that the 2002 is supposed to be a ton better. The Ford is just a great all around truck, and I would buy a new style F-150 over the Silverado, but not in the mid 90's, Chevy was King.

Similar Products Used:

This is the first 4X4 I have owned, but I did own a 1983 Chevy 2wd, nicer ride, a TON faster, also a 350 V8, and it had a 350 turbo tranny, which I could not hurt, I like the solid feel of the 83 more, but the 94 is still a great truck.

Strength:

Nice ride and interior features. High resale value. (I don't know why the public loves this product, the Ford is a muck better truck dollar for dollar).

Weakness:

Cheap plastic interior, not very dependable, burning oil, low height for a truck, high maintance cost after 60,000 miles. (I thought they were built like a rock? They sure fooled me!)

Nice riding truck and lots of power for the 350 in it. The interior is very pleasant to look at and very functional. This truck was always burning oil, about 1 quart every 1,500 miles. I averaged about 400 miles to a tank of gas for city/hwy combined. After 70,000 miles everything went on this truck. I needed a new compressor for the a/c, new pads and rotors, new rear shoes, new alternator and water pump, a new starter ect, ect. In the end, I Traded it in for a Ford F-150 Supercrew 4x4, before I dropped another dime in this truck.

Ford F 150 is a much superior truck. Use your brains and do the research. Let all the dummies buy this junk.

Strength:

everything, save for the u-joints. or at least those on two-wheel models.
better than any POS ford. can we say "imminent safety hazard/FORD!" chevy trucks or at least those with the 350 c.i. will last well into the 300,000 range and beyond. do-it-yourself is the key.

Weakness:

none with the vortech 350.

My 97 c1500 is an outstanding truck. with 30,000 miles of beating the piss out of the ford killer. It kept going. as do all gm vehicles as long as you take it to a reputable(personal)service garage for maintenance. The worst thing an owner of vehicle do is drop thier vehicle off at a dealership for service. unless you know the technicians personally.

77 c10 with 350 drove with almost 200k and rising. let him go and still ran
84 beat to hell and back with a 350 and well over 200k and still kept going. like a rock these trucks need tremendous damage to stop or break them. usually the utmost ignorance of an unschooled mind.

wind--pulling of steering wheel, without a warning.

About 3 different times as we are driving in town at slow speeds, 30 or 40

mph, the steering wheel has grabbed, and pulled, hard enough to pull a foot

or two, off the path we were headed in. this was very quick, like a wind

gust, but it wasn't wind, and very scary.

Strength:

350 engine/350 transmission. Good combo with 4 wheel drive and positraction differential. Smooth ride. Front seat is very roomy.

Weakness:

Brakes, takes a good bit of pressure to stop. backseat room(expected with the c/k trucks.)

Solid dependable Truck, decent ride on highway, runs strong with 350, good power for towing and hauling, good acceleration for passing. I've put 12k since I have had it. Mainly used as family vehicle. Backseat okay for 3 yearold. Interior laid out well. Nice big cargo box.
I like the newer ones but this one was much cheaper has at least the 3rd door and had all the features I wanted and not too many miles.

Similar Products Used:

Have driven Fords and older chevy's and this one is very comparable if not better than some, no experience with Dodge.

Strength:

Attractive lines, Comftorable, plenty of power, and smooth riding.

Weakness:

Give me a few years.

I have owned my Silverado for one year, and have had a good experience thus far. I previously owned a 86 Silverado, short wide. My Silverado, Reg Cab/short bed, V6, Auto with the Texas/Oklahoma package. I would suggest it for those of you who want a good, clean looking, and comftorable truck. I understand that the package I have is near base, but the beauty of this package you can have all the chrome and look of an LS without the cost. I was open minded when purchasing a truck, I looked at everyone... no one else seems to offer a base model with so much.
