Model Reviewed: K-1500 Regular Cab/Long Box

Strength:

Dependable and has required very few repairs. Starter, alternator and a
water pump since warranty ran out. Original Goodyear tires lasted 67,000
miles, next set-63,000, present mileage is 157,000 and tires still look near new.

Weakness:

Has wondered on uneven roads since new. Dealer even paid for another independent aligner to do a 4wheel alignment. Didn't help. I have replaced
the windshield washer module 2 times. Still no rattles or squeeks.

I purchased this pickup new. It was taken to the dealer quite a few times
while it was under warranty. It has a 5 speed. The original clutch chattered and was replaced. Synchronizers were replaced in the transmission. Except during the warranty period I have had good luck with
this truck.

1971 Ford bought new was a good pickup. Drove it only 67,000 before trading for a wagon. Next pickup was an '80 Ford--I really didn't like it.
I sold it and bought my current '90 Chev. I have some rust and when I purchase the next one it will be at least as new as '98 because of the source of the sheet metal.

Strength:

Looks, solid and dependable and drives decently.

Weakness:

It has much more power than my 95 ford and gets better gas mileage. It does not stand up to oilfield roads and well as my Ford. I have had to replace front end parts. The ford never had any suspension problems.

Good looking truck and I enjoy driving it. It scoots around town easier
than my crew cab ford. It has a few quirks like noisy exhaust on cold mornings and spongy brakes.

Unreliable, I was stranded on vacation 3 times with this truck

I just got rid of my 1996 K1500, 60,000 miles. Problems from day 1. You name it was replaced. 7 transmissions, Intake Manifold, Alternator, Starter, Flywheel, Numerous transmission tail shafts, Power steering pump, Front axle seals replaced 4 times, rear axle seals, Speed sensor, A/C Compressor and when I traded it in last week, the rear end was shot and the transfer case was grinding. I told the dealer, I didn't want the truck. I now have a new 2001. I did have to pay some out of pocket cash, but believe I have a reliable truck.
