Strength:

Smooth ride. Excellent power. Lots of room.

Weakness:

Could have come out with memory seats for 2002.

The best SUV I have ever owned. Have had two previous Ford Explorers and they nickled and dimed me to death. Poorly built. I purchased a 4x2 Limited. Was able to get it at 5% over dealer cost. Shop and get Internet prices through dealer. The problem is, no one has the color you want, and it is a 3 to 5 month wait to order. If they want your business, they will match your best price.

Strength:

I love the room, and the rear window controls is another plus (similiar to the 4Runner). It''s a Big vehicle with a luxury car feel. The 6 speaker stereo is adequate unless your trying to have a block party. After the 3rd row seat you still have room for a few suitcases.

Weakness:

The arm rest (driver side) feels a little uncomfortable, I prefer using the storage compartment as an armrest. Accelerating during the break-in period will give of a terrible odor. (You will really smell it if you have the rear window down)

After comparing new and used SUV''s I didn''t give Sequoia a serious look until my wife said she likes the new SUV by Toyota. I decided to go for something new, dependable and nice looking with Plenty of room. The curtain airbags were the addition to my complete package of safety. At 4000 miles I have no complaints other than trying to keep my Black Sequoia with the gold package clean is a "BEAR"

Strength:

fits in my standard garage; smooth ride; quiet; cupholders and sunglass holders galore; easier access to the third row because the 2nd row 60/40 seat flips, not only slides, forward; oil filter easily accessible for changing.

Weakness:

be aware of the height limits in parking garages if the max is under 6 ft, although it is shorter than the expedition

after much research regarding price, reptutation, reliability, and past experience w/ certain makes and models, i decided on the sequoia SR5 4x2. depending on your needs, those of you who are high-maintenance will likely choose the limited. i went for the lowest price available. it being such a new car, being only in its second model year, no plain vanila models were for sale. i used a online car broker for the purchase, who suggested that i go to toyota.com and build my vehicle. the web site sells CARS DIRECT to customers. after confirming through three other brokers (online/credit union) that the base model can only be ordered and delivered only after months, i confirmed my selection. they had the dealer deliver it to my home, saving me the hassle of going to the dealership and haggling adnauseam. the toyota site automatically gives preferred packages to chose rather than giving the option of a base model. my logic regarding that is that if it isn''t standard, then it must not be a necessity. the price paid was $32k plus $3k tax and licensing. i''m adding leather and a fiberglass running board aftermarket for only $1500. i drove it 300 miles the following morning w/ no noticeable differences than the grand cherokee that my wife drives. the gas mileage calculate caught my eye when is said 30 mpg. using cruise control at 75 mph can apparently do that even w/ a V8. other web sites used for comparison shopping include kbb.com and edmunds.com. btw, financing was also completed using the www. it was good to find one that treated its PEOPLE FIRST over the dealers and commissions.

Strength:

Comfort, safety, looks, equipment, quality, good mileage for it''s class, extremely user friendly with tons of cargo or people hauling ability.

Weakness:

Steering isn''t as solid as it should be. Wants to wander a little going down the highway. Feels a little like driving on grooved pavement. Reason unknown. Just a small irritation...not a deal breaker.

Very happy with this SUV. Comfortable, safe, decent gas mileage - 18 on the freeway 14 around town. Factory sticker was 45K but you can get discounts on this class and size vehicle nowadays.

Breaking takes some getting use to. Parking requires practice (Too bad they dont have that "backing-up" gadget the new 2002 Explorer/Mountainer has on the rear bumper.

I had A Ford Explorer, but I was looking for more room to bring the wife,3 kids, guests (my Mother-in-Law can go behind the 3rd row seat)

Strength:

Great truck except the breaking systems in inadequate for the weight of the Sequoia.

Weakness:

Breaks

Break problems - Beware! I have had multiple issues with the breaking system on my Toyota. I have had it in to Toyota over 7 times for break issues and its in the shop as I write this review. Three sets of pads and 20,000 miles seems a bit more than "Your riding the breaks to much". In addition, I also have 3 other Sequoia owners that have also had the same issues with the breaks. Toyota does not seem to want to take responsibility for the issue. If any one else is having the same issues drop me a line as I''m compiling a list of owners in the event that legal action is needed.

Strength:

Handling, passenger and driver comfort, luggage room.

Weakness:

Mileage has not gone above 16 MPG despite installation iof fuel miser, usually more like 13-14 MPG. Harmonics when rear windows opened at and above 40MPH are terrible.

Best car we have ever owned. just returned from a 2200 mile trip. Averaged 14 MPg, but that included heavy A/C use, lots of mountain driving, lots of slow windows and moonroof open driving, etc. Carried 5 of us plus all luggage, set of golf clubs and lots of purchases along the way. Handled great, I did most of the driving and was never tired, no stiff back, etc. Noticed very bad harmonic problem when rear windows opened at and above 40 MPG. Loud thrumming that actually brought on nausea. Solution was easy - either don''t open at 40, or, crack fron window or moon roof, and harmonics go away. Only complaint is mileage, could be better.

Strength:

Toyota

Weakness:

People who have expressed dislike in the Sequoia have pointed to the engine as being too weak. Could it use a more powerful engine maybe so, however it''s more than adequate for our use.

This is our third Toyota SUV(two 4runners). We currently have the Sequoia and Suburban, although we like the Suburban the Sequoia is a more quiet and smoother drive. The engine is quiet, at times you forget it''s on. As with our previous Toyota vehicles, quality and workmanship is seen throughout the Sequoia. You don''t have to slam the door in order for it to shut, it "sounds" sealed when you close the door. We haven''t used the 4WD yet, but look forward to the snow this winter. There is plenty of room for our kids and the third seat -individually adjustable and removable. The leather in the Sequoia is a softer "Lexus" leather compared to the Suburban. The Sequoia is a looker especially Silver Sky and draws many looks and comments in the parking lots. I bought this vehicle for my use, but let my wife drive it once.......Now I drive the Suburban.
