Strength:

Fit and finish inside and out are absolutely fantastic. Quality of the ride is excellent...both around town and on the highway.

Weakness:

What else??? As with ALL the vehicles in this class, gas mileage is not very good...though I will say that I am pleasantly surprised that it gets as much per gallon as my 4-runner did. Therefore I'm not spending anymore on gas then I did before.

WOW! What a great vehicle this is. Comfort, looks, drivability...it has it all. Anyone looking for a full-size SUV with dependability and quality owes it to themselves to check this one out. After driving the GM and Ford products and knowing their reliability (or lack there of), there really is no comparision. One friend owns the '99 Tahoe and the other a 2000 Navigator and I think they are now convinced that ther next purchase will be at the Toyota dealership.

Strength:

Nice looks
drives good for a larger SUV, but, with a bit of a pull with high speeds
Toyota reliability

Weakness:

Hard for larger people to get in the back seats, but this is typical with the all SUV's in it's class
Needs bigger hp and torque numbers when compared to the competition

Nice ride, lots of room, not easy for larger people to get in the back seats! Typical Toyota reliability, but for the price, I would expect a little more power compared to the competition. The mileage is not as good as other SUV's in it class, I believe it is due to the engine being too small for the weight of the Sequoia. But, I like the looks, and I know Toyota's reliability record is second to none.

I test drove a Tahoe and loved it, but I previously owned a Toyota 4Runner Limited and had no problems with it, so I felt better about spending the $$ for this SUV. I liked the performance of the Tahoe more, but the reliability weighed too much in my choice!

Strength:

The ride is smooth and quiet. This vehicle handles great!!, lots of room for passengers of all sizes; even in the third row. There is lots of passing power and just overall comfort.

Weakness:

Can't think of any.

I think the Sequoia has a lot to offer in size, style, comfort and good looks. For all the compliments my vehicle gets, if it had an ego, it would be too big to live with. If you don't quite like the dealer offered fender flares and running boards, remember those are options on the SR5. I opted to personalize my vehicle with some aftermarket fog lights, side steps and maybe a grill guard. This vehicle offers a very smooth, comfortable and quiet ride. Gas mileage is good for a vehicle of its size and weight. I've been getting 15 to 16mpg around the central Florida area. If you know anything about traffic in the Orlando area you know what I'm dealing with. The head and leg room is more than adequate, even in the third seat. I opted for the single CD changer system with the 6 speakers and I think it's more than adequate. I also like the power, leather seat package and the dual air conditioning system with vents for all seating positions and rear controls. I think Toyota went to some extra pains to offer some extra safety equipment such as skid and traction control systems, optional side airbags and window curtains as well as three point seatbelts for all passengers. This is my 4th Toyota and once again I'm counting on that wonderful Toyota reliability and quality. If you're used to driving smaller vehicles it will take a little getting used to but overall, this is a great vehicle.

Strength:

Toyota name and quality, Front and middle Seats( all of them are comfortable and lots of leg room for adults or kids), Fuel Economy and ULEV rating are also a big plus for a vehicle of this size, Front driving vision is great, comes with many standard features, Safety: Air bags, crumple zones ect.

Weakness:

The looks of the sequoia could be better as I can not tell if it is a big 4runner or a land cruiser/4runner The side vision when changing lanes is not the best, and most of the vehicle ( engine and tranmission are still japan built) is built in the US so longevity and quality could be a issue in the future. Time will tell.

My wife needed a replacement for her 1994 FJ 80 land cruiser and we have looked at all SUVs in the same class ( except the Expedition/Navigator one of which I use at work and so far it has run great without a hitch but it is not a toyota and it is cheaply made for what you pay and it has gotten progressively louder( squeeks, rattles, engine noise ect.) as the miles pass( nearly 50K now and it gets bad gas mileage 11 mpg or so ). I wanted a new land cruiser but the price( a bit hard to swallow nearly 60K for one car ) and cost cutting on the new ones steered me away from it.
Basically, the new landcruiser is more similar to the Sequoia than different so that was the deciding factor to me and my wife to purchase the sequoia instead. The two vehicles share the same engine and the other diffs are small in comparison to the nearly 20K price difference( how many of you whom own SUVs really need to go on a sunday drive on the rubicon?).
The new land cruisers now have a A arm suspension in the front instead of the sturdy unbreakable solid front axles of the FJ 80 era and before and the rear axle is now a semi-floating instead of full floating like the FJ 80 as well( both of these cost cutting measures make the land cruiser less of a off road vehicle and more of a luxury vehicle ). So, we tested Suburbans/Yukons( great rides but bad driver vision and limited off road use as they sit very low to the ground and as with most US vehicles reliability is a concern) Range Rover Discovery( gas mileage and reliability concerns steered me from this SUV as well ), Ford Excursion( just too big and truck like but it gets great mileage nearly 20 mpg with the diesel), Mercedes ML 320( a great ride, major safety features( see the commercials on TV for a vivid example of it) and a great vehicle but it is the cheapest one mercedes makes so that has to make you wonder how reliable it will be in the long run) and of course the new land cruiser( see above and below comments on this one but a great rig if money is not a issue and the reliability untouchable and legendary ) as well. What we found for the money the sequoia was the best deal by far when you consider these things: it is a toyota( that in itself is nearly enough for me but there is more ) and all toyotas I have owned have never had a engine or tranmission problem and have all served me well reliability, resaleability and quality . My wife hates leather seats( and of course the new land cruiser only comes with leather), and she hauls around kids( 2 + the friends that go along with them so I always have a need for 8 seats and cargo room as well ). The sequoia offers a great package of comfort and goodies for a low price( well low if you consider 37K a low price but all these damm cars are expensive these days). The gas mileage( listed at 17 mpg highway but from what I have seen and experienced on the first 700 miles is great at nearly 18 mpg with mixed city and highway ), and room and comfort. The base CD/AMFM system is ok but the sound quality could be better( the land cruiser system was 8 years old and sounded much better ) so if sound systems are high on the need list opt for the 6 disc/ 10 speaker system.
As for off road use it will suit me fine with a low range only center diff lock ( alot of folks complained about this only working in low range but usually you only do serious off roading in low range 1st gear so that was not a concern( besides if you want I am sure ARB will be producing a rear air locker for it soon if they have not already and this is a option I will be getting in the future ). As I mentioned the vision when changing lanes is not the best so look several times before doing so. It handles and rides great!!!!, and the seats put me to sleep when I am a passenger so again no complaints and no more sore butts from the FJ 80 seats either.
There are more than enough gadgets for me on this rig and the only thing it does not have is the 6CD changer, leather, and the Front side airbags and Air curtain. The roof rack looks cheap and has a low carry rating( 150 pounds ) but with all the room inside I doubt I will ever use it. So, I am happy and my wife is still dealing with the loss of her land cruiser( she was in tears when we signed the final papers ) but she likes the sequoia and it will serve her well. If you want a big family sized SUV that gets great mpg then this is the one I would recommend and if you do not need all the room consider a smaller one. Thanks and enjoy.

Also, before the FJ 80 I had a 1985 FJ 60 when I sold that one it had 250K miles and only the main bearing seal leaks that they get but otherwise was a great rig as well.

Strength:

Ride quality, interior space, large sunroof, climate control, handling

Weakness:

Big vehicle - hard to park (but I am used to smaller vehicles); concerned that it is made in USA... may not live up to Toyota's Japanese manufacturing quality. Has started to rattle a bit after 2,300 miles....

Besides it large size (we really didn't need something this big - no kids)we enjoy all it's features (big sunroof and roll down rear window). Has a great A/C and climate system. Base CD stereo is very good: I will not replace it, as I did replace the factory 4-Runner stereo. We have dog(s) so we bought the loaded SR5 w/o leather. Overall, it is a very nice SUV. Much better than the 4-runner in every respect (especially the ride), but in our opinion the X5 and the RX300 look more attractive outside.... The Sequoia is growing on me!

wonderful vehicle...well built, great ride and NO rattles!! I have 4 kids and traded in my 2000 Yukon XL and gave up the extra cargo room and glad i did! If you buy a GMC Yukon XL, you need to go ahead and buy a second vehicle..a tow truck! GM should give a customer care package that includes a box with super glue and duct tape for the parts that fall off!

Weakness:

stereo is a little weak..but who cares?

great experience all around!

Strength:

Ride, Quality

Weakness:

None

I was in the SUV market I test-drove the Expedition, the Suburban and the Toyota Sequoia. I bought the Sequoia, it is the same size the Expedition and it rides like a dream with a smooth V8. I live in Southern California and took a t trip with this to Central California the first week we got it and what a joy. I drove for over 4 hours with out getting tired. This last weekend we drove to Las Vegas with 6 adults including myself, everyone enjoyed the trip, very smooth. I really like the other to trucks also, but when it came to it the others can not match Toyotas quality, reliability and Lexus like ride. Before you make a decision I would suggest you go test drive one and you be the judge. By the way I got mine with everything except 4 wheel drive and leather for 33,000, I consider that a value. Hope this helps any of you.

Strength:

Solid, quiet, well built, BIG. Toyota reliability

Weakness:

Flimsy running boards, ugly, cheap-looking fender flares, poor gas mileage, traction control not defeatable in 2 wheel drive, BIG.

4wd Ltd model. It has the room I need for kids, bikes and other sports equipment and is a little tougher than a minivan. I destroyed my last minivan by using it like a truck. Acceleration and handling are more than adequate for a large SUV. Has more room, yet drives "smaller" than similar GM or Ford SUVs. Traction control in 4wd works great for most slippery situations. I took it offroad in the snow and was amazed at how well it tracked with the TC on. None of the usual side-slipping etc. Hardcore offroaders won't appreciate this, but it is also defeatable (in 4wd mode only). Toyota seems to be trying to make their SUVs all look like luxury cars, and I can't stand the look. The body colored or 2-tone fender flares and running boards just don't work. I wish they would give guys that don't mind driving a truck that looks like a truck an option.

Strength:

Ride is smoooth for such a large vehicle, Toyota build quality, well designed interior with seating arrangement that can't be beat. I don't understand the complaints regarding the power. This baby has cubes. A great ride with plenty of room.

Weakness:

None as yet. If your buying this you know about gas mileage

The best SUV I have ever driven. I entered the show room looking to finally spring for the Land cruiser due to a need for more space than the 4 runner could offer. But I saw this for the first time and I tried to find a reason not to buy it over the Cruiser. I can give you 25,000 reasons why you should buy one over a cruiser. There is no doubt that this model will seriously cut into Cruiser sales. It is big yet does not drive and handle like its size. Very well thought out engineering both in body lines as well as the interior. Unbelievably quiet interior even at highway speeds. I bought the limited and I can't find a complaint as yet. If this lives up to Toyota's quality reputation it will easily be the best vehicle I have ever purchased. Highly recommended
