Strength:

Drives like a car with the power of a truck. Excellent for a family.

Weakness:

Breaks! One trip down Big Bear Mtn in CA and the breaks were warped. I only have 5400 miles and had to have them replaced. The dealer told me that this is a very heavy car and I need to use a lower gear and/or turn off overdrive. Okay, that''s nice to know, but one hill should not have caused that much damage to the breaks.

Excellent car. My wife and I bought it for safety - the comfort and luxuary just came with it. It''s nice to be able to fit seven passengers comfortably. I have my two car seats in there and still have a lot of room for luggage or passengers. I will buy another one after this one gets too old.

Model Reviewed: /Limited 2 wheel drive

Strength:

The safety features are what I like most. I also enjoy the way it drives. Very low inside noise. This vehicle is great for a family. Our kids like their own temperature controls. The third seat is comfortable so our 15 year old, 5ft-11 son doesn''t mind sitting back there with his friends. There is more room behind the third seat than expected.

Weakness:

The brakes have always been a concern. When sitting at a light I feel as though I have been tapped from behind by another vehicle. Also our break fluid was very low once. When taken in to the service center they said that was normal for a vehicle of this size. With the seat warmer buttons and the side mirror controls in the position they are, they are frequently turned on and the mirrors closed. The cruise control seems to have a few problems. At times the catalytic converter emits an awful smell. There is also one rattle that has been there from day one. The arm rest is not very comfortable.

After driving this SUV for over a year and almost 40,000 miles I still love it. The average gas milage is 18.2. It is easy to park and handles great. I have had a few problems that I have noted below but they would not stop me from buying another Sequoia.

Strength:

Gobs of room, quiet and comfortable, easy to drive.

Weakness:

As with any vehicle, more power. Mileage is also a sore spot, but it''s just a couple less MPG than the other SUV''s we''ve owned. About 14-15mpg

Between my wife and I, we''ve owned several SUV''s, Pathfinder, Passport, Suburban, 4Runner, RX300 and even an Audi Avant. As our family grew, we needed something roomier and reliable and nothing seemed to come close to the Sequoia.

Strength:

Quiet, smooth ride, seamless transmission performance, precise steering, interior room, locking differential (on 4WD), burns cheaper regular gas which helps compensate for V8 fuel comsumption, good paint job, excellent removable 3rd row seats. Flexible cargo configuration, electric window in rear hatch, rattle free.

Weakness:

The big one: Very dissapointing front seats. Way too soft, they become uncomfortable after a couple of hours on the road. ( We have the optional 8 way power seats.) Others: Head rests lack tilt adjustment and are too far forward. Engine idles too fast. Brakes require too much pedal pressure. Gas pedal too close for tall drivers. 2nd row seats fold forward, but cannot be removed to maximize cargo space. Some switches (e.g. side mirrors, door locks, cruise control) are not illuminated for night driving. Power radio antenna not appropriate on a tall SUV; hits entering any garage. A glass mount diversity antena should be used. Quality of plastic and carpeting used could be better. Minor: Low fuel illuminates too soon; with 4 gallons (26 gal tank) remaining. Rear side storage compartment cover awkward design. Intermittant wiper time control works backward from intuitive. Steering becomes too light with heavy load in back, but it''s perfect with light loads. Heating system box intrudes on right front passenger foot room. More granularity in wheel tilt needed. Stereo tuned for boomy bass. I would much prefer console mounted shift lever and parking brake, like the Landcruise

We needed an SUV a bit larger than our troublesome Mercedes ML320. The 4x4 Sequoia was chosen based upon looks, performance, room, value, and reputation for reliability. The Sequoia drives very nicely for such a large vehicle. We''re still getting use to it, with only about 700 miles on the clock. Gas mileage is 16-17 MPG combined surburban/highway driving. This is the 2nd Toyota we''ve owned, and my initial reaction is it''s not quite up to the standards of the Japanese manufactured Toyota models. Some things have clearly been tailored to Toyota USA''s perception of the tastes of the American market, to the detriment of the vehicle. Must be ex-GM people working there. However, it compares very favorably with competing American makes.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Sequoia

Strength:

Everything - solid! Extremely smooth ride and unbeleivably quiet. More room than others in the the same class - puts the Expedition to shame. I can sit in the third row of the Sequoia - not in the Expedition (I even hit my head in the 2nd row of the Expedition). Wife had to have the side curtain air bags - extra protection. Seats are easy to use and remove with no hassle.

Weakness:

Have yet to find one. One thing though, my back storage compartment door comes off frequently-minor.

WOW! Can''t say enough good things about this vehicle. First Toyota - will not be getting Dodge again... We have a 2001 Limited Thunder Gray 4X4 which was purchased in Las Vegas. We left there soon after and traveled all across the country. Travels included pulling another vehicle through the Rockies, and it never slowed us down. Great roadtrip family vehicle - with lots of room for visitors. We''re in Florida now and have just passed 15,000 miles - not a single problem yet! Getting about 16 mpg. Don''t even bother with other SUVs...

Model Reviewed: Limited 4x4 black w/ Gold Pkg

Strength:

Build, comfort, handling, power, looks, roominess.

Weakness:

Brakes, especially stopped at intersections, when the idle kicks up, the brakes don''t hold very well, causing a great deal of uneasiness the first couple of times. Gas mileage. Black color is a real pain in the ass to keep clean, but when it''s clean, nothing looks better.

1st Japanese vehicle I''ve owned. Don''t know why I''ve waited so long. I have 6k on the vehicle and love it. Avg. 14.5 mpg. This vehicle in black w/ gold pkg. turns heads constantly. Many, many people have told me this is the vehicle of their dreams. I got the best price by shopping via the internet to get the best price out of L.A., then getting a local dealer to match price. Get a car cover for the Seqoia to keep it cleaner longer.

Strength:

Quality, ride, handling (for its size), Toyota Service, and the fact that Toyota makes the best cars in the world.

Weakness:

Given that it is indeed a large SUV, I don''t have any identifed as yet.

This is my 11th Toyota. I have own 3 4Runners, 3 Landcruiser, and the remaining were cars. With the exception of some of the levels of materials, it is hard to justify the extra cost for the Cruiser. I traded in a 2001 Mercedes ML 430 for my Sequoia and I am so glad I did. This car is typical Toyota quality, and well worth the money compared to the Crusier, and other high priced SUVs. I find the ride quality, and handling to be very similar to my 2000 Cruiser. I returned to Toyota for another Cruiser, and found the Sequoia a much better selection. I also like the fact that it is larger than the Cruiser. The ML was constantly in the shop for minor problems e.g., cracked panels, broken glove box, brakes, rattles, etc.
