Strength:

The ride is quiet, smooth and tight (for an SUV). Gas mileage is better than expected. I've been averaging about 18 miles to the gallon around town, which I think is very reasonable for something this size. It handles snow storms without concern, even in 2WD the vehicle has been impressive. The Sequoia has several more inches of ground clearance than the Expedition, Tahoe, MDX, and Suburban (for those off road excursions to find beach parking).

Weakness:

Sorry, I don't have any to report.

I upgraded from my old (1994) Ford Explorer which gave me a lot of trouble right from the beginning. I love the additional room, even for me (6'2", 260 lbs) sitting in the back with the kids is a comfort. One test criteria it meets daily is that my wife (5',xx lbs) MUST feel comfortable driving and parking a vehicle this size. She definately does.

I find the engine more than adequate for getting into highway traffic and moving beyond the posted speed limit. I don't tow anything so I can't comment in that area.

Similar Products Used:

It doesn't ride as "truck like" compared to the Expedition and Tahoe we tested. It rides as nicely as the Acura MDX and offers much more room and functionality. Third row seating was found to be better for my long legged kids than the Expedition and, certainly, the MDX.

Strength:

Love the ride. I used to rush from a to b but now I take my time and cruise. Very quiet inside and seats are sooo comfortable. Don't like the hammertone very much but can live with it. My radio and cd work fantastic.

Weakness:

Not much. Passenger center-row headrest interferes with sight out of rear quarter window so I took big headrests out and replaced with back seat headrests, much better. We don't hardly ever use the back on a daily basis so this suits our need. Back windshield wiper could be a little peppier but no problem.

My sister has the 2000 suburban , she needs it with a family of seven. But I feel the solid feel and smooth ride of this toyota makes this a step above any Chevy or Ford. I love the look of it, I highly recommend this suv to everyone who needs a big sporty mode of transportation.

Strength:

Best looking, well built, lots of features. I keep getting stopped in parking lots by people wanting to see it.

Weakness:

Only weakness is on highway at speeds of 70mph. It seems to wander to the extent that it makes my wife car sick. Have talked to dealer and he can't seem to help. He even changed tires to no avail. It has the Mich 265 white lettered.

Love the truck except for above problem. I drove over 1400 miles on a trip and was exhausted.

Have driven lots of SUV's and 4 WD pickups and none have done this. I drove a 98 Ford Explorer for over 500 miles and didn't notice a problem

Strength:

Best handling of the big SUVs, I tried Fords, Chevys, and GMC and nothing matched the control of the Sequoia. There is very little swaying in corners, it stops quick, and doesn't oversteer. I like the flexible 3rd row of seats, and am always popping them in and out as I need to carry up to 7 kids, or sports gear, or horse tack. With the back seats out I have hauled 4 adults with tennis bags and suitcases to the coast in total comfort for all. The grocery bag hooks are absolutely great! No more spilled milk. This is a very flexible SUV, I've put almost 10,000 miles on in under 7 months and have had no problems. The extended warrentee was so cheap we bought it but so far we haven't had any need for it. It's style is eye-catching, mine is tricked out to the max, rear spoiler, bug deflector, running boards, gold package, ect, and people are always stopping me in parking lots to ask how I like it.

Weakness:

I would like to see a bigger engine, for hauling horse trailers, but without a trailer, we cruise at 80 mph with plenty of power left over. The CD changer is somewhat slow, but the Volvo I traded in for the Sequoia had a top-of-the-line Alpine, so I'm being picky. And a few more cup holders in the middle seat would be good. That's all it needs to be perfect.

I would buy another Sequoia in an instant if I had to replace this one. No questions asked. I am a demanding driver, I want safety, handling, and speed. Drive one and you will want it.

We rented a Ford Expedition for a week's vacation. On the way home, after driving it for 6 days, we almost wreaked on the interstate because of the swaying and poor handling when we had to avoid a car that cut across two lanes in front of us. I would never buy that Ford. We did test drive the Tahoe around town, and the Suburban, and though they drove better than the Ford, they were not close to the Toyota. The Sequoia also turns in a nice tight circle, and is easy to park. I like the way I can roll the rear window down from the driver's seat. Kids can dump their sports equipment in without me getting out to help.

Strength:

Toyota reputation for reliability, quality, comfort, handling (for a truck this size), safety, resale value, good looks, and roominess for wife and the three kids.

Weakness:

Engine a little weak on the torque side, but not necessarily a weakness if you do not tow much.

I have nothing bad to say about this vehicle. I gave the competition a fair shake by driving the Yukon twice, the Expedition once and the Acura MDX three times. Acura makes a great quality vehicle, but in the final judgement, too small for a family of five. I liked the Yukon's looks but it wasn't quite big enough in the third seat to be useful for anyone except small kids. I was also afraid of quality issues with the Yukon and Expedition, knowing people who have problems with theirs. We drove the Sequoia last and it blew away the competition. My 5'2" wife easily found a comfortable drivers seat positon. She was unable to do this to her satisfaction in the other two. We both liked the feel of it on the road better than the other two, and it also had more space for the kids and even us adults in the third seat compared to the Yukon. We drove it over 700 miles as soon as we got it and the ride was smooth and quiet. Kids slept the whole way and we never tired. Great high seating position, too, but the overall height of the vehicle is lower than the other two big trucks, which is a concern for us in parking garages in some places. If you plan on towing a lot, the Sequoia is definitley adequate enough unless you feel you just got to have more torque, but this will sacrifice a bit on gas mileage. Get the MDX if you just don't need a big vehicle, are concerned about gas mileage and want more of a car than a truck. Like most SUV buyers, gas mileage was not a primary concern for us.
I grew up with two different Toyota Landcruisers, and now my father is on his third. Never did they need more than routine maintenance and they were both still running strong after 100,000 miles when we traded them in for the newest model. I'm expecting the same Toyota quality, reliability and durability with the Sequoia and will probably keep it well past 100,000 miles.

Strength:

Fit and function. Styling. Room for rear passengers. Back row seats tumble quite easily. High plane of forward visibility.

Weakness:

Blind spots in rear quarters can be challenging (I'm 5'11"). Serious wind vibration when rear windows are open independently. Sounds stupid, but I dislike the smooth radio knobs - they get difficult to adjust at times.

So far, so good. First SUV, 4WD. First foreign model too much to my reluctance. Fit and function are supurb thus far. Turning radius is fair for parking and manuvering around town. Tested it side by side against a Tahoe. (The Sequoia blew it away for interior quality). Rode better than expected over the 750 miles traveled recently. Road noise was fairly low to moderate and without rattles thus far. Had no problem passing at will on two-lane highways. Kids appreciate the drink holders and storage in the rear passenger areas.

Compared to Chevrolet Tahoe head to head. Power was slightly better in Tahoe. The ride over the short haul were near the same.

Strength:

The quality, and the workmanship is good. What closed the deal for me was those retracting mirrors. The Sequoia is the best looking SUV on the road.

Weakness:

No memory seating, no option for an entertainment system. That hammerstone dash is ugly. No navigational system offered. Not enough colors to choose from, exterior, as well as interior. Needs mor bells & whistles for the money. Lastly the gas mileage, needs improving.

Great truck, no major problems. I like the ride,it rides like a car. The transmission could be a little less iratic. I love the space, I travel back and forth fro New York, and the Sequoia loves the highway. I will keep mine until they start making them with all the bells and whistles that are availabe on the Lexus. Navigational system, Entertainment system, Memory seating, Run flat tires.
In conclusion, this is a great product, that only needs to be improved upon.

Usual Toyota quality. Built is superb, transmission is smooth, quiet engine, roomy interior. Good looks. Doors sound THUNK!!! when being closed, a solid feel.

Weakness:

It is pretty for a "truck". Tire size could have been bigger.

Thinking to buy a Land Cruiser, but saw this Sequoia LTD next to it. It's bigger, more powerful engine (by 10HP), leather seats and very plush interior...all for $14K less. Didn't even bother to test drive the LC. My family was with me and we all liked it. Smooth ride and quiet engine, good sound system (JBL) and really roomy interior. Wow.

Toyota quality, Interior space, Seating comfort, Car-like ride.

Weakness:

Gas mileage (of course).

I have owned over fifteen (15) Toyota and Lexus products over the years. The Sequoia is just another example of the level of quality this automaker puts into their entire line of vehicles. The fit and finish is equal or better than higher priced competitors. We traded in our 1999 4Runner which was very truck-like.

If you want a large SUV don't waste your time, just buy one of these!

Weakness:

Memory seats would have been a nice thing to add with the slow moving power seats. But that's the only weakness!

I am a huge Toyota fan and once again, Toyota has not let me down. This is the nicest and smoothest Toyota SUV yet. (in this price range). The power is plentiful, the room is great (I am 6'5), and the overall feel and handling is simply wonderful.
This is my wife's primary vehicle absolutley loves this ride!!
