Strength:
Well it does ride smooth.
Weakness:
The BACK WINDOWS suck. A LOUD LOW blast kills your ears if you happen to only roll down the back windows. The seat are too short and uncomfortable I have long legs and the front seats seem way short, especially for long drives. For the money I spent I think I could have done better. I guess I'm the only one disappointed in the Highlander. First off Manhatten Beach Dealership is terrible. The salesmen rude and the SERVICE department extemely disorganized and unprofessional. I feel like I got ripped off and I hate the dealership. I bought the V6 with extras. Moon roof, tow package, t-cover,wish I upgraded with to a better radio. I did my research and test drives but I guess I was wrong. Similar Products Used: Explorer and Land Rover Better. |

Everything is excellent except the few weaknesses i will point out in the next section.
Weakness:
no center console!? i purchased one after market to fix that. Deafening wind noise when windows open!Truly a let down there. The sales and management are very arrogant when it comes to negotiating on this vehicle. Was really tempted not to buy one on that point alone. It's a good thing they have the best suv for now. Although, when i need another vehicle i'm certain that a tie in vehicles will go to the other brand. Only a partial steel bumper under the plastic covering. The steel only runs between the two headlights. If your unfortunate enough to have a collision a little off from the center...you'll end up replacing most of the side of the vehicle even at VERY low speed. We purchased the limited edition AWD. A very nice lil suv for my wife. (i drive an expedition) The ride of this vehicle is superior to mine. The gas mileage is way superior to mine as well! I test drove every one of the other suv's this size and am convinced we got the best one for the value and reliability. The domestic suv do a better job of adding "toys", but lets face it, i'd much rather be driving down the road in a dependable vehicle than broken down on the side of the road playing with the gadgetry! Similar Products Used: Test drove all the mid sized suvs available. The highlander was definately the smoothest ride. |

Great vehicle for the money lot's of power for a V6 with all wheel drive. great fuel economy (drive 300+ miles a week at 20-21MPG avg). Lot of nice features.
Weakness:
Lot's of noise with windows open Limited legroom for front passengers. Braking could be a little better. High radio not "very high end" in fact I might upgrade the stereo later Passenger seat not electric nor does driver electric seat has memory. Interior lighting is pretty weak. I bought the Limited Highlander(with everything)new from Newark Toyota World In Newark DE after having review several other SUV's. Found the Highlander as the best vehicle (size vise) for the money. Unfortunately I was not able to get any dealer within a reasonable distance from my home to come down off their premiun over invoice pricing. Dealers said they would sell to the next guy and wouldn't discount (No need to for a "hot" car). . I got the vehicle for about $1000 over invoice. Have driven the vehicle for 4 months and love it. I agree with others regarding some of the reviews regarding legroom, radio, wind noise with windows open, braking, However all in all I would buy the vehicle again. Similar Products Used: Traded in Ford Explorer. Test drove GM's mid size SUV's, Toyota and Nissan mid size SUV's, Ford Explorer and Jeep SUV's Didn't like them for too big (poor gas mileage) or drove too much like a truck. |

Highlander...V6 4x2
Strength:
*Superb V6/220 horsepower engine *Excellent handling *Smooth ride *Cushy (yet firm) seats *Generous leg & head room (front & back) *Ample storage throughout the vehicle *Beautiful dash with practical displays *Sleek exterior styling (it grows on you) *Unbelievable gas mileage
Weakness:
Helicopter noise with one window down on the highway; it is quite deafening. That's our only complaint, which is easily remedied by not opening just one window. After waiting nearly 5 months for a factory-direct Highlander (see 2/10 review), we are finally the proud owners of the best midsize SUV that money can buy. We got the V6 "unlimited" version with front wheel drive and a host of options including a power moonroof (which we absolutely love), keyless entry with antitheft system, auto-dimming mirror with compass, 8-way power driver's seat with lumbar support, privacy glass, carpeted and all-weather floor mats, tonneau cover, roof rack, rear spoiler, hood protector, and tow prep package with converter and receiver hitch. The MSRP was $30,400 and we got the dealer down to $27,400 ($300 above invoice price). Needless to say, we are extremely happy with the price (read most of the other reviews and you'll see why). We have put 1,000 miles on it in the short week we have had it and we were pleasantly surprised to get 25 mpg with highway driving (that was driving 70 mph with the air conditioner on the whole time). That is exceptional (in our humble opinion) for an SUV with 220 horsepower. We can't say enough good about the smooth drive, accurate handling, quick acceleration, good braking, roomy interior for riding and storage, etc. etc. If you're looking for a midsize SUV, take a Highlander for a nice, long test-drive and experience firsthand what we are talking about in this review. You will see that this is not hype or hyperbole, but the honest truth about another excellent Toyota product. Smooth, quite and comfortable ride. Vehicle drives like a fine automobile.
Weakness:
None Along with the RX300 the best SUV on the market for the money. Drove the MDX, Pilot (Dealer wanted 2000.00 above invoice). But neither could match the Highlander for ride and comfort. The Lexus was just as good but couldn't justify spending 6000.00 more ror a name. Similar Products Used: Accura MDX, Honda Pilot & Lexus RX300 |

Comfort, smooth ride, quiet, easy to drive, a bunch of accessories I don't think I will ever use, but you never know.
Weakness:
No optional 3rd row seat, ash tray in a difficult place. I love this new SUV. I researched SUVs now for about a year. I have test driven all kinds and I decided to go with the Highlander. I bought the limited with a V6, not a 4x4. I would never use it. I wanted something with a smooth ride, comfortable, for a family of 3. This was the best in its class. I would have bought a mini-van but the style wasn't my type. My average MPG has been 22, not bad for a vehicle this size. Similar Products Used: Toyota 4x4 pickup, Toyota Camry |

Strength:
excellent, smooth and quiet ride, almost lexus like, the best trait; free of rattles or wind noises; torquey engine, plenty of power for a rather heavy car; excellent craftmanship, fit and finish; good ergonomics thruout; nice and big rear mirrors for better visibility; arm rests perfect for long distance comfort; rear seats back are like those on sedans, high and comfortable unlike those on truck suvs; 5-spoke wheels on limited show good design, quality and are easy to clean; nice bright console, easy to read; very smooth transmission, better than bmw ; versatile cargo area, kids love it! full size spare tire, a nice feature; car height about right, not too high, not too low; fuel consumption about 18+ mpg which is not too bad for heavy suvs; uses regular gas, a plus!
Weakness:
the dials plastic cover is tilted upwards thus collects dust easily; not a lot of storage areas for a suv; handling is not as tight as a honda or bmw, but suspension 's more tuned for ride; seats are kind of small, especially the bottoms, but comfy; could use more lights on the windows controls and on the overhead, especially in the dark; would like the ability to turn off driving lights; optional stereo adequate but not quite there compared to bose or others; steering a little vague but torque steer minimal; needs more effort on brakes for sudden panic stops; would like to see auto feature on passender side window. mud guards a little tacky but can be removed; leather kind of thin, not sure they'll last; i've never owned an suv before so this review is from the perspective of a guy who has owned many cars, mostly sedans, from japanese to german made cars; not that i've never driven an suv, but this car is somewhat a camry in different clothing; with a glut of suvs on the market these days, u should get a good deal on this model which is only 2 years old; my local dealer discounted from $2500 to $3250 on the msrp depending on whether or not they get incentive from toyota; the biggest change from 2001 is the center console which comes standard on limited models; a surprising discovery is that the car was manufactured (80%) in japan rather than kentucky like the camrys and sequoias which usually translated into better quality and better use of materials. Very nice experience overall, quality expected from toyota, my main reason for buying; some nitpicks here and there but no car's perfect; if it fits most of ur needs and desires then it's the right car for you. none This is the best SUV we've owned by far. I had a 1999 Grand Cherokee that was junk. How any company could release a SUV like that with so many problems is beyond me. I do have a question for H.L. owners. What octane should I be using ? One dealer says 87 another 91. Thanks, Fred Similar Products Used: Jeep G.C. Pathfinder, explorer |
