Toyota Highlander (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Highlander is Toyota’s car-based midsize SUV, built on a unibody platform with 4-wheel independent suspension. The Highlander offers a tight, quiet ride like a midsize sedan with the higher ride height, available 4-wheel drive, and cargo capacity of a midsize SUV.

The Highlander scores high for its refinement, quiet interior, ride comfort, and flexible and roomy second-row seat. Its 3.5-liter V6 delivers solid performance and 18 mpg overall. The third-row seat is tight and does not fold in a 50/50 split. A new 2.7-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed automatic is available on FWD models.

Strength:

Powerful engine, room for cargo with easy flip down seats, all round visibility, smooth ride.

Weakness:

No center arm rest/console unless you purchase the limited Poorly positioned front seat cupholders

I previously owned a 4 runner and didnt need to ford streams and climb Mount Everest. I bought the Highlander for our canadian winters and driving conditions. An absolutely beautiful machine, smooth ride, with 24000 km on the vehicle, no rattles, no problems at all average 25 mpg city/highway driving..loads of room, seats fold easily. First vehicle I intend to keep long term.

Strength:

Comfort, safety, quality of assembly, reliability, with a very sensible and attractive interior. Climate control wonderful. As SUV types go, corners and maneuvers way better than most. Feels very stable. Fuel usage (standard grade) very good. A vehicle to very much trust. You feel just great driving this achiever.

Weakness:

Occupants have to deal with admirers asking many questions and making very flattering comments.

In significent such use (9+ months driving it,)I have been dazzeled by this vehicle's performance on sand, snow and mud. Properly applied, the traction has amazingly resulted in absolutely no wheel slippage. (Some warm moments of satisfaction have resulted from passing several stuck major snow plows on northeastern interstates and in Canada.) As for fair weather use, the ride, transmission and brakes are superior. The interior layout(I'm 6'5")is very comfortable and adaptable to impressive storage.

Strength:

-silky smooth and powerful V6 -great ABS brakes with EBD and brake assist -perfect size, great handling and traction with a smooth ride -Toyota quality throughout -rattle and squeak free after 40,000 miles under all road conditions

Weakness:

As for the wind noise when the back window is down it is easily solved by opening one of the front windows a crack. If this is the worst falt you can find in a Highlander it's not worth mentioning folks!

I bought the V6 AWD Highlander for $36,000 (Canadian). I absolutely love this vehicle! Living in Canada we get everything mother nature can possibly throw at you and this truck performs fantastic through it all. My passion is hunting and fishing so I have always wanted a vehicle to go where I wanted without getting stuck but did not like big SUV's because they were too rough riding, terrible on fuel and difficult for my wife to manouver. She loves to drive the Highlander as much as I do because it drives and parks better than most cars and has twice the vision. It has superb traction in rain, mud, sand or snow. The ABS brakes with EBD and brake assist are the best I personally have had on any vehicle. The engine is powerful pulling my 2000 pound boat wherever I choose to go with little effort. I also think this is one of the best looking, quality built SUV's money can buy and the size is perfect. After 2 years I can honestly say this is the fisrt vehicle I have not gotten tired of or was ready to trade. Yes I would definetly purchase another one without hesitation.

Strength:

Comfort, manuvering, leg room back and front, back seats recline for added cargo space. My black lab has plenty of room. Overall excellent vehicle, just what I wanted.

Weakness:

cup holder is a pain

My husband is 6'3''and has difficulty in other vehicles. He needs a very comfortable vehicle to ride in as he is ill. We traveled to our vacation home 300 miles south and he had plenty of leg room and comfort. Ride is smooth and vehicle is easy for me to handle. I was driving a camry and due to the severe traffic where I live decided that I needed a vehicle that would sit higher. I found the Land Cruiser, Land Rover, to be to big for me. I have a V6 and it gives me the power I need to move in and out of traffic.

Strength:

Comfortable, smooth ride. A very nice trip vehicle. Very easy to manuver, even in parking places and turning around. I love it!

Weakness:

None

The Highlander is everything I was looking for! It has the room and look of an SUV, and rides as smooth as a car! I have driven a Tahoe before, and it was so top heavy and difficult to manuver - the Highlander is so easy to handle! It is a very comfortable SUV. If I ever buy a new vehicle, it would be the Highlander!

The Toyota Highlander has what I consider a design defect concerning air vibration and preasure when the rear windows are rolled down. Some of us like fresh air not air conditioning as Toyota suggests to solve the problem. I would not recommend this vehicle.

Strength:

Comfortable, Lots of Headroom, Nice Ride, Safe Reliable, Loads of Cargo Space.

Weakness:

Kinda Boring. Foot-operated parking brake sucks! Legroom for rear seats is kind of skimpy.

Comfortable, Roomy, Nice Ride -- But Hardly Exciting. We bought this vehicle for my wife, who wanted an SUV because of the visibility you get sitting up high. I did some research on the 'net and read some mags (C&D, Consumer Reports) and the Highlander was on the top of our list. When we got to the Toyota dealer's we looked at all the SUVs, and concluded that the RAV was too small, the Sequoia was too big and the Highlander was "just right." After MUCH haggling, we got 10% off the sticker price, because the 2003 models had just come out. Probably not a huge bargain, but a fair enough deal for a Highlander with the V6, roof rack, towing package, blah-blah-blah. From scanning the reviews here it looks like we paid less than 80-90% of the people who bought a Highlander! We've had it six weeks now, and it's got 1725 miles on it including a road trip of nearly 1000 miles. Road feel is similar to our other car, an Avalon -- which is not surprising, as the Highlander is built on the Camry/Avalon chassis. Acceleration is pretty good for a 3900-pound vehicle: about 9 seconds 0-60. Handling is adequate, but not what you'd call sporty. This is definitely one of the more sedate SUVs you'll find! Overall fit and finish is excellent, although the curved plastic over the instruments does gather dust and reflect light annoyingly. The only thing I really hate is the foot-operated parking brake, as I prefer a hand brake (easier to see that it's on!) Anyhow, I would definitely recommend the Highlander to anyone looking for a roomy, comfortable SUV that will be used on paved roads 99% of the time, as ours will be. Two of my friends commented that it's pretty nice, but definitely looks more like a car my wife would choose than one I'd buy for myself!

Strength:

Quietness, ride, very good mpg for a vehicle this size, good overall value, best thing, built in JAPAN,not here where other toyotas like my tacoma was built(poor american standards i'm sad to say, like most american built cars!)

Weakness:

Dash layout could be better, instruments are cluttered looking.Alloy rims should be stardard equipment along with floormats.

I purchased this vehicle after having a doublecab tacoma. So far it's what i'd excepted.Four cyl has about the same power as the 2.7 in the tacoma.Ride is very car like,i've gotten 27-28 mpg on the hwy with the first two tanks, and that's what i wanted in this vehicle.About the complaints of wind noise with the windows down, put um up...,thats whats air condition is for.If you're expecting a suv feel look elsewhere. If you want room of a suv and a carlike ride that will stay on the hwy. like most suv's do anyway look at this vehicle.

The air Pressure Your ears pop when you roll down the windowsEspecially the ones in the back And my sunroof

I love the way the Highlander rides and looks. I am very disappointed in the air pressure in the car. You can't open the back windows sometimes the front. It depends on how fast you are going I mean it will make your ears pop It is awful I called the Toyota place and they are acting like they have never heard of it I doubt that after reading al of the reviews I can't even open my sun roof all the way if I am going a certain speed I hate this and they are acting like there is not a proble Anyone have any ideas? I am thinking about a law suit. I bought this car with cash! I am very upset because I was planning on this being my car for a very long time
