Great looks, reliable, reliable, and did I mention reliable. Good enough power for most activities. Good looks.
Weakness:
Dated engine and interior; narrow vehicle..doesn't feel so comfy in sharp turns..although I'm use to it. Right now everyone and their uncle has one. Disappointed in the lumbar support switch that popped out of driver seat side after 1 yr and always hangs. I drove an X5 and the power difference is amazing compared to 4 runner.....but i still love the runner... seats are ok but on long trips I've sometimes get back stiffness. Executive Summary:........Reliable. I've put 70K miles on it over the past 4 yrs and it drives the same as the day purchased. Only repair...fuel injector sensor @ 60,000.($200) new tires and brakes. I use the expansive cargo space for everything (e.g. keeping home depot in business), the interior controls are no nonsense...that's good. I was not too thrilled with the purchase process from the dealer... these were a hot item at the time..and they tried every scam possible....I also believe I over paid. Just waiting for the new 03 to come top the showrooms. Similar Products Used: owned Jeep CJ7, test drove Land Rover DII, test drove Nissan Pathfinder, test drove X5 |

Weakness:
none. Its all on how you treat it and drive it. Treat it right and it will take you where you want to go My second 4runner. The first one I rolled over in a rain storm. I walked away, with scratches. Best integerity I have ever found, considering the damage. I replaced my 2000 with the 2001 ltd edition. I got the full package. All I will say, for those of you who complain that this is a dog, I say you did not do your homework. This is by far the best suv on the market. If you want a luxurey suv. All you will get is a glorified car. If you want a real suv. then look no further. So look and test drive before you buy. I'll tell you what, my dorado gold 4runner ltd edition, is a hit with the ladies. So why would I want anything else. Smooth ride, depenability, good looks, great tough looking body style.Strong as a truck, yet smooth as a car. Now I ask you, for the money, it just does'nt get any better. So do your homework, test drive it,feel it out. But only buy it if you want quality, looks, reliability, and lots of chicks. Similar Products Used: Isuzu rodeo,Montero sport |

Strength:
It is very well built, it doesn't ride like a car, and has very well built parts.
Weakness:
CD player I purchased this Runner new in 98 as of today it has 100,045 miles on it without major problems. I have done the recommened mantinance to the Runner including the changing of the timing belt. At the time we did that we found the water pump was slightly seeping, not leaking but because we were there I replaced that part. It has the original shocks (we've taken them off and checked them), original brakes (checked every other oil change), original battery, I just replaced the belts. This 4 Runner travels a minimum of 20 miles of rough gravel roads every day of the week so it shows some damage from gravel on the finish but nothing serious. Problem areas, the CD player quit and wasn't that great to begin with. Seems to have a bit less interior intregrity than my 95 Runner did, but still for 100,000 miles this thing looks and runs like new. Similar Products Used: 1993 Chevy S10 Blazer, what a POS. Strength:
Low end torque. Adequate horsepower(though I have heard it isn't enough). The body style is excellent. Excellent seats. Great seating room for back passengers
Weakness:
Bad design on dash console. Lot's of wasted space. I am a Toyota person. I have a 91' Tercel with 192,000. I have a Camry with 161,000. No problems whatsoever with either vehicle. I recently bought the 4Runner Sport Edition. I am very happy with it. Though I only have a few thousand miles on it, I expect many more trouble free miles to come. 4 Runner Limited
Weakness:
Being manufactured by very irresponsible company that they do not care for safety. Also, their customer service has gone very bad. I owned a Toyota 4Runner limited since february of 99 to june 22nd of this year.I loved my 4 Runner like all of you. I had a very bad accident and my 4Runner got total. When I purchased it brand new it had some factory defects but they were minor things. I did not make a big deal out of it. But with this accident, I had a collusion from front and left side an than I flipped over. Fortunately, I am alive, but I was very dissapointed because my Air Bags did not deployed. Having an accident like that and air bags not deployed is a factory defect even tough Toyota won't accept it.I do not know how they can denny it because front and the top of the car is gone. I am going to hire my own engineer and proofe that it is a factory defect. What was worse is Toyota really did not take it seriously. It took them about a month to write me letter. They still have not send me an official report stating that why my air bags did not deployed all they said in the letter that air bags worked the way they supposed to work. Car is still in storage and I have pictures. I do not know about you guys but I do not ever want to purchase a car from a manufacturer that who does not care human life. I used to love Toyota and I still own a 1998 camry, But I will never purchase one again. |

Toyota 4Runner Limited
Strength:
Reliability, smooth revving engine (although it could use more horsepower.) Power rear window is a plus.
Weakness:
Bumpy ride, could use a stronger engine, weak stereo for the price of the vehicle. The stereo controls on the steering wheel weren't even an option. No option for auto dimming rear mirror either. (Both of which were on my '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee.) The 4Runner has a great fit, finish and is very reliable. I haven't had single problem with my 4Runner since day one. There's decent rear passenger space and lots of trunk space. The 4 wheel drive system is impeccable. (Used mostly in the snow while going up to Tahoe.) It drives nicely and handles corners well even for an SUV. The moonroof is HUGE. Seating is comfortable on long trips. The ride is a bit bumpy (rides like a truck) on rough roads. The stereo that came with it is totally weak for an SUV in this price range. The leather is nice and the climate control works well in hot weather. Similar Products Used: 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee |

towing ability build quality gas mileage looks
Weakness:
none This is my third toyota and I am impressed. My boat weighs 3000 plus pounds, the trailer it sits on weighs 1200 pounds, the gas tank in the boat holds 63 gallons of gas (6lbs a gallon) and my dad and myself........this vehicle tows it up hills without breaking a sweat!!!!!My dad who drove trucks all his life is impressed. The temperature gauge never even moves! So if you want v8 torque than buy a sequoya but it isnt built in its own factory by meticulous japanese people. Im impressed with the gas mileage, fit and finish and the quality of all the components. Like my dad says , "This thing is built like a tank". I agree. You wont set any speed records while towing but thats not the idea. I expect to get at least 150 to 200 thousand miles out of it. Use the toyota factory oil for less friction, you can actually feel the difference in power. Highly recommend it, get one of the certified used toyotas and youll get a great warranty. I love it and will buy another one. Similar Products Used: durango |

Strength:
Good handling, good power, reliable.
Weakness:
None I can think of. I leased this vehicle in August of 1997, and bought it out when the lease was up. Why wouldn't I? It is coming up to 5 years and 138,000 Kms. and I still love driving it. I pull a good sized boat with it and the V6 engine has no problem with it, even towing it through the mountains. Other than regular maintenance, which is always done buy Canyon Creek Toyota, this vehicle has never cost me anything for repairs. I do not do a lot of off roading, but the few times I did, I was not dis- appointed. For those of you looking at SUVs, take a good look at a 4Runner. It may not be the flashiest, but it is made to be used, and does not break down. Remember, you get what you pay for. That applies to service as well. Why would you take your $$40,000.00 Toyota vehicle to anyone but a Toyota dealer, who knows your Toyota better than anyone else? Similar Products Used: 76 Bronco was the last SUV I had. 88 Corrolla |
