Power auto up/down rear window Power auto open/close moon roof Double (two story) cargo Comfortable seats Illuminated cup holders Dual automatic climate control Impressive sound system (am/fm/cassette/cd STANDARD in all models)(6 disc "in-dash" changer STANDARD in limited models) Quiet ride Incredible V8 engine.
Weakness:
no auto up/down passenger window (like in previous models) Gas mileage (ofcourse in any Truck Based vehicle). Although Toyota has improved their gas mileage in it's 2003 model. No illumination on homelink button or sliding moon roof button located above you. Very difficult at night to locate and having to feel around for them Love the new style and especially the color (pacific blue metallic). The overall size of the vehicle is much bigger than the previous model. The ride is uncomparably better to the previous model. The V8 has more power than you will ever need and makes the ride very quiet at accelerations (great for leaving people in the dust at the stop light) The leather seats are very comfortable. Much more comfortable then the previous model, which I thought were very comfortable. The complete redesign of the interior intrigued me. The dash, with its colors being black and silver give a very interesting industrial futuristic look. The classy "pilot-like" speedometer and tachometer above the stering wheel with a "fiber optic"/laser speedometer/tachometer needle. Lets talk about the JBL sound system, SPEECHLESS. The backseats are much more comfortable then the previous model allowing a middle section armrest to fold down with dual cup holder and tray. Air condition vents, garbage bag holder (for your messy passengers), remote capability for audio, cordless headsets (for those who disagree on tastes of music). Cargo area is much bigger than the previous model with a brilliant idea of the folding double cargo (two story). For all of you SUV complainers about the 4Runner not having a 3 row back seat option, HELLO you have to climb back there to get in them! I definitely could not see my mom or business work employees doing such a rediculous thing. Especially for the money spent on a luxury vehicle, who wants mud and dirt tracked all over their carpets. GET A VAN. The exterior of the 4Runner is very sharp and attractive. I really like the wireless antenna feature (so your vehicle is never mistaken for a childs radio controlled car). Wheel size is important, it is what makes your ride look like a RIDE. Color coded bumper, grille and door handles are really nice. The overall look of the vehicle's exterior is very sharp and futuristic looking. Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer (F-ix O-r R-epair D-aily) (F-ound O-n R-oad D-ead) |

Strength:
Nice styling, excellent handling.
Weakness:
Didn't care for the feeling of climbing up into the cab, but I guess that is part of a SUV designed for off-road use. Also, didn't like having to pull the headrests off the back seat in order to fold the seat down. After hearing for years about how reliable Toyota is, I decided to test drive a 2003 SR5. I must admit I liked the way it manuvered in and out of traffic, and I very much enjoyed the over-all handling of the unit. However- as part of the test drive, the salesman had me go on the highway. I floored the accelerator to see how it would get up and go. Imagine my surprise when I took my foot off the accelerator and found that it stayed fully depressed! The only way to get back control of the engine was to shift into neutral and turn off the ignition. This allowed the acceleartor to be released. We pulled off the highway, found a relatively empty surface street and repeated the test. Once again, when the accelerator was floored, it would not return until the ignition was turned off. As we were driving back to the dealer, I asked the saleman if he would like to discuss Toyota's reliability. While I really liked the 4-runner, I was very disappointed that it would have such a major problem- especially on my first test drive. |

Toyota 4 Runner SR5
Strength:
Sporty, love sun roof, excellent 4 wheel drive and rides nice
Weakness:
small, poor gas mileage, not much power, Started out loving it. Then ac problems that cost about $100 to fix. Then defroster and cruise stopped working. Now a head gasket is blown, but it is not covered by the head gasket campain Toyota has since the VIN number is not listed in that campaign even though it is the same year/make/model. $$$. Strength:
- Lots of cargo space - Fun to drive with the moon roof open and all the windows down, at night it's especially nice - Very good factory speakers - No real mechanical problems - Very comfortable on long trips - Riding on the beach is great
Weakness:
Poor gas mileage, but it is a pretty big SUV so you can't expect much The check engine light has started to come on and so far nothing seems to be wrong with it The cup holder is in a terrible place, right in front of the vents and the AC/Heater controls, very strange. I've never taken it off road (except for the beach) but I bet most people with $35,000 - $40,000 cars don't. I love this SUV. My parents have a Mazda Miata and they love it but I always tell them I would rather drive a car that you can see over people rather then them seeing the top of your head. I have had no major problems with this car and it has 120,000 miles on it. I am about to upgrade to a 2002. I have heard that it doesn't have much power you can't expect an SUV to be a sports car. I have never had any problem passing anyone. Similar Products Used: 1987 Jeep Cherokee |

Strength:
- Quiet ride - Reliability - Good handling for the size and height - Excellent suspensions - Very basic and straight forward interior - Love the ride
Weakness:
- Could use a bigger gas tank I traded my BMW 328i for the 4 runner and drive approximately 300 kms everyday. So far I've no problems whatsoever with the vehicle. Only been to the dealership for regular service and oil changes. I love the high and quiet ride as well as the HUGE cargo space. Recently drove 100 kms with 1300 kgs of cargo inside the truck and didn't feel the slightest difference. A great buy!!!!!! Similar Products Used: Mercedes Benz, Cadillac STS, BMW 328i |

Style, Looks outside and inside... Everything else that comes with a luxurie car...best part you sit so high up you can really tell what is up ahead at you in traffic!!!hehe..
Weakness:
Speakers are bit weak... Would like a bigger gas tank...that's about it...everything else is great! I've always wanted a 4Runner and this is absolutely what I've expected from it. Drives it everywhere you can imagine and its great with all its options and power (although I heard its weak) but for me its more than enough! Definately a keeper for those who seek an SUV that seek adventure with your life style. Great looks inside out. Handling i the Highway and Freeway in SF is great and changing lanes is an ease(quick and easy). Deffinately a car/SUV for an adventurer!!! I'm tellin ya with this ground clearance and power this thing will go anywhere you want!!! None I've owned this vehicle over 2 and half years and have put over 65,000 miles in that period.?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;In general, EXCELLENT reliability (drives like the day I took it home) and offers tremendous peace of mind!. I've only performed scheduled maintenance and nothing else. I was certain that I was due for a brake job but I still had lots of pad left. Both my old 95 & 97 Jimmy SLT's (worlds biggest POS vehicles!!!!!) had much less mileage and both had the brakes replaced twice a piece. Based on my past experiences, I was certain that the brakes had to be done on the Runner and I even asked the dealer to change them to be sure, but they refused because they assured me they were fine!. The integrity of these folks is very commendable and the quality of the truck speaks for itself!.?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;I'm still a big "Drive North American" advocate, but my wife's bulletproof 11 year Honda Accord and this 4 Runner give me little reason to ever buy anything other than these brands again. The courtesy and service from both companies is great, far better than GM's "pass the buck" and "it's never our fault attitude" that I've experienced far too many times. Even suckers like me get fed up eventually and learn that brand loyalty goes BOTH ways!!!?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;In summary, don't hesitate with this vehicles folks because when it comes to SUV's, nobody does it better!. Strength:
Quality! Keeps its value, very reliable, looks sporty, comfy, love the sun-roof. Long life.
Weakness:
Easily rusts. Not alot of power up hills for a V6. Hard to find used parts - guess that's because they last forever. Absolutely love the 4Runner's. Had an 89 auto V6 prior, and drove it hard without any major repairs till it had 370,00 km's on it, then I gave it to my brother, who also loves it, even though it's now rusty and looking old and tired. Now driving a 92, V6 auto., and although when I first bought it I replaced the rad., I expect it to be a keeper for a long time as well. Just wish I could afford a newer model!
