4Runner Limited 4WD 3.4V6
Strength:
The V6 4WD model is still ranked above average and is still on the top ten stolen list which is a good indication of the kinda hype surrounding this particular vehicle choice. Best of all the 4Runner can easily be turned into a sport/street sleeper or a heavy-duty off-roader - due to abundance of aftermarket choices. Depends which way you want to "better" it.
Weakness:
Considering the 4Runner can be customized easily into anything you want, it still lacks one thing - invoice price. If this baby were selling for 20% less it would be definitely up for grabs, no doubt about it. At time of purchase, the 4Runner is the best mid-sized SUV on the market. Now this niche market is super-saturated. Almost every other person in the neighborhood has or had an SUV, but 4Runner''s still create an atmosphere on the streets today because it has qualities less obvious at first - reputation, easy maintenance, tons of aftermarket parts, and a very long history. Kinda like how a Hummer goes back... Similar Products Used: Other SUVs are stuck being dumbass boring AWD mommy Vans. The marketing departments have succesfully brain washed all the Moms&(yes)Dads into their lala land. |

Excellent Build Quality, Compitent in all areas

None!!! This is my 3rd SUV (first Toyota after two Wannabe''''s…I mean Jimmy''''s) and my 2000 Runner is my first venture into a Non-North American Truck.?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;Simply put, this vehicle is FAR more solid and reliable with the 47,000 miles that I''''ve put on in 1.5 years versus either of those Jimmy''''s when they were brand new.?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;GM''''s service typified those two vehicles as well…pure garbage! Since I''''ve worked in automotive for numerous years, two problematic transmissions, numerous quality issues and unforgivable explanations have convinced me that the various dealers I dealt with are either stupid or compulsive liars! The worst thing is that I WAS a die hard "buy North American" loyalist and had a GM logo tattooed on my heart, but I''''ve been stabbed in the back once too many times by a company that treats loyal customers with complete and total disrespect!?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;I bought my lease out early at a heavy penalty to rid my self of this demon vehicle and since I''''ve been a GM guy, it would be blasphemous to buy either a Ford or Dodge (you know the game!). In search of a vehicle to drive around with clients by day and haul lumber from home depot at night, my wife''''s perfect 10 years old Accord told me to go Japanese and frankly based on the Runner''''s performance, I''''ve certainly purchased my last North American vehicle! ?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;My wife always received courteous service at the Honda dealership and the Toyota crew has been great as well for the typical maintenance visits I''''ve made. On a recent visit, I literally pleaded with the service manager to change the front pads on the vehicle because my Jimmy was already into it''''s second set by this mileage point. He refused because they were still in great shape and he didn''''t want me to spend money needlessly! I''''m still amazed how little this vehicle has cost me, but I should have been tipped off by the dealer when I purchased the vehicle and he discouraged me from buying the extended warranty saying it was a waste of money! ?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;In summary, the vehicle is well appointed with leather and just enough options in the SR5 configuration that seems quite complete. It''''s also very solidly built since it maintains a full frame underneath which enhances the "creek-proof" quality of this vehicle. Power from the 3.4 liter 183 HP engine is not earth shattering bu Similar Products Used: 1995 and 1997 GMC Jimmy |

Strength:
v6 power is very adequate. handles equally well on the highway, in the u-turns, and in parking situations. Great looking vehicle w/ classy lines w/o being boxy or backwoods.
Weakness:
brakes, road noise quality 4wd truck. adequate power going 30 or 80 mph to pass. rides loud w/ my upgraded wheel/tire package. don''t you dare back into somehting cause the weak bumper is put there only to keep the body shops in business (can you say a $1,000 ding in a bumper? i knew ya could) overall, a great truck. only problems (now at over 80k miles) have been with the brakes leaking onto the rotores/shoes/etc which cost nearly $800). other than that, with good maintenance this truck looks great and runs great and i expect another 80-100k out of it. engine and SLUDGE! Bought new in 1994. It is a wonderful vehicle, but in 1997 engine locked up and dealer said it was from neglect(SLUDGE)!! I had receipts. They insited on a new engine $5800.00 I opted for a cleanout $400.00 it helped, but still makes noise and drinks oil, but if this was not a Toyota I don''t think it would have still been running (149,000 miles). Strength:
Acceleration, decent MPG,Good looks, Nice interior, ect...
Weakness:
Needs more top end(but what can i expect from a v4), needs power locks and windows, needs a hood scoop too. Better MPG would be nice This is the best SUV out there, first of all cuz it looks the best. Great acceleration for a 4 cylinder. I''d really like the V6 though. Nice interior, lots of room, almost everything i want in a vehicle.I had a 1995 4Runner V6 and the 4 Cylinder is faster... Similar Products Used: 1995 4Runner SR5, 1993 Rodeo |

4WD big advantage in michigan winters. No rusting despite the mass amounts of road salt. Rumors about toyota''s reliblity completly true.
Weakness:
Acceleration could use some improvement, ram air on newer models might help or the 5 speed models. Great car! Definatly best SUV out there. 4WD works very well. (got me out of many tight spots) Very luxurious interior but doesnt mean you cant take it off road. Handles great. Could use a bigger engine, not nearly fast enough acceleration for me, but geared down for power Similar Products Used: jeeps, fords, pontiac, nothing compares |

Toyota 4runner Limited 4x4
Strength:
Reliable. Excellent fit and finish. Great resale value. Lots of dealers, even in rural areas. Reliable. Locking center and available locking rear differentials (no goofy computer traction control on the 2000''s). Full body-on-frame design for long term durability and towing. Excellent crash test scores, both frontal(NHTSA) and offset. High ground clearance. Narrow (good for offroading). Reliable. Good looks. Solid rear axle (not independent suspension like car-utes) for good articulation and durability off-road. Great rear cargo space (80 cubic feet - and rear seats fold FLAT for a level cargo floor). Electric tailgate window goes up or down, so Fido can get air out back, or you can get haul those extra long two-by-fours. Oh, yeah, its RELIABLE.
Weakness:
Narrow (good for offroading, bad for interior shoulder space). High step up (b/c of ground clearance). Independent front suspension (good for on-road comfort and handling, but lousy for offroad). Small (18.5 gal !?!) gas tank. Could use more power (get-up and go is good; although I have had no problems towing with it, HP is like money or weight -- you can''t be too rich, too thin, or have too much HP) This is an offroader first, a throwback to more conventional SUVs with only a few concessions (i.e. IFS) to on-road comfort. Yet the structural integrity, build quality, and quiet solidity of the vehicle, as well as the day in, day out reliability, make it a very easy vehicle to live with -- and rely on. We regularly carry a 100+ pound dog in the back, we have taken it cross country several times, sometimes through several days of snow storms, all without a problem, traveled cross country through snow storms towing a Uhaul, towed a trailer through the Berkshire mountains, and regularly drive on muddy/snowy dirt access roads, gravel roads, and go offroading in Vermont couple times a month. This vehicle is bulletproof, doesn''t squeak or rattle, and everything works like clock-work; even simple acts such as flicking the turn-signal is an experience --the feel, heft and positive "click" of the post is incredible. I except to keep this thing for a long time to come. Similar Products Used: LR Discovery: beautiful vehicle with solid axles front and rear and full frame, BUT: rear seats don''t fold flat (lousy for dog carrier); odd shaped roof/rails don''t accomodate ski rack without using |

Strength:
Great looks (Black paint w/chrome bumpers), huge sunroof, rear window, reliability is superb, drives so smoothly, great gas milage for an SUV, good ground clearance, good skid plate protection
Weakness:
Stock stereo & speakers had to go, very slow SUV (spoiled by Jeep V8''s), Unsafe- no traction unless I put it in 4-wheel. Should be 4 all-time like Jeep, seats are low to floor- height not adjustable, wheezy underpowered V6, small fuel tank, awful cup holders, querky lock position (hurts your elbows), looks wierd w/no roof rack, Quite lacking in off-road ability but how many people buy 4Runners to off-road? Chrome bumpers dent way too easily, piss-poor sound system. Did I say slow? !!BAD!!--> fog lights won''t turn on unless headlights are on!! DEFEATS purpose of fog lights!! Good all-round car, won''t buy Toyota again. I''ve had Jeep Grand Cherokees before and they are far superior in most aspects. Similar Products Used: Many Grand Cherokees, a blazer, an Explorer |
