Strength:

The ONLY V6 mini SUV in the market. Price right at $19000. Shift from 2WD to 4WD on the fly. Fun to drive just like any other mini SUV. Very dependable.

Weakness:

Not enough trunk space and back seat space. Minor problems such as wipers, and AC water leaks needs to be address.

The Grand Vitara is a compromise for all the people that are looking for a SUV who does not want to pay a lot of money. Its V6 engine will produce enough power for a 4WD vehicle. Your only option to consider is whether to get an Auto or Manual trans. Dealers are not able to add options that you dont need or not welling to pay extra. Very fun to drive. A true SUV. Drivers has the option to use 2WD or 4WD. AC, AM/FM Cass., Power locks and windows, to name a few are standard. All in all for under $20,000. And if your looking for a dependable foreign made car, GV is 100% made in JAPAN (not Korea). Avoid Sportage at all cost. Visit edmunds.com and check the posting regarding KIA products and you will know the reason why.

Strength:

My Grand Vitara is more than great, its awsome. I could not ask for anything more from this auto. I am now seeing more GV's with after market products and they look great. I was surprised by the power of the light weight (and high power potential) all aluminum V6. You dont get to see designs like this engine everyday. Suzuki has adapted some of its motorcycle technology to this engine which gives it GREAT potential for future upgrades and mod's. The body design is excellent too with the mono/silver paint and dark tints it is such a beautiful combo. The handeling is also incredible not just for an suv but in general it performs quite well. The interior is also fairly nice with some features that you would expect to find on higher priced SUV's. Go get your own! but make sure its a V6.

Weakness:

If I HAVE to be picky and cry about something for this section it would be the rear leg room. But then again I didnt buy this SUV for TAXI purposes so I guess I can deal with it.

I paid 16.5k and now have 15k miles on it. I would and do highly recommend it. A few friends of mine have bought their own after riding in mine a few times. That says alot to me. I love my Grand Vitara or Escudo depending where your at.

In my opinion the only SUV's that compare GENERALLY are the BMW and the Vehicross. I compare them on personal appeal not price range.

Strength:

I was surprised when I drove this mini and was not really following its marketing at first but one test drive and I had to have it.

Weakness:

Only problem with this design is my rear seats are no good for large people, I didnt notice this at the test drive. They could have made slightly more space for big passengers.

I dont know why the MSRP on this board says 13k. I paid $18,000 for mine, surely they have made a mistake or have I made a somewhat expensive one. Anyways I would recomend it to anyone. I feel very safe and in control in this SUV. Very easy and pleasent to drive.

Strength:

The motor is quite nice, good for offroading will climb anything with new tires and Calmini lift kit. So very happy I went with Suzukis best ever 4x4. I am purchasing a 2000 all black, next month.

Weakness:

Nothing to gripe about.

$18,000 and the new one fully loaded will be around $20,000. Recomend it daily. See so many on the road now since I own one. We test drove everything out there that was out at the time and I was not impressed by anything else.

Strength:

I cant get over what Suzuki has done with the 4x4 products starting with this series. Very reliable and surprisingly quick and agility is the most reasuring feeling. Also very fun off road when climbing hills and sand dunes.

Weakness:

Had to change the stock tires to some fat offroad ones. What a difference.

Very fair price- I will recomend this new Suzuki gem to everyone. So glad I stopped in for a drive.

Strength:

I love EVERYTHING about this little SUV! The ride is very comfy, the engine is very peppy, it handles like a dream, and looks simply awesome. There's plenty of leg and head room for the driver. It handles long road trips beautifully. Gas mileage has improved every month I've owned it. There is tons of get-up-and-go in the V6 engine which makes merging and passing easy (and fun!).

Weakness:

Wish the radio were stronger and that a CD player had come standard. Back seat a little tight for more than one adult. Heavy-duty car mats would have been nice, too.

I paid $17,200 for mine (MSRP on this site seems to be way off). I would highly recommend that anyone in the market for a small SUV test the Grand Vitara. The V6, on-the-fly 4-wheel drive, and the overall feeling of sturdiness will impress you. Mine has been completely problem-free. It drives as beautifully today as it did the day I first drove it home.

I am not really fond of the name. Wish motor was pushed more to true ability of a 6 cylinder in a small SUV.

More than my deal on the F150 but, it was not newest of the two. We have turned out to like and use this Ute alot more than expected. I guess I would, SURE. Thank You Suzuki.

Strength:

Seat comfort, great seat height. Easy driving maneuverability. Decent gas mileage.

Weakness:

The tires suck MAJOR. The 1st year wasn't awful, but close. The second year (after 15,000 mi), I was scared to death in the snow. Had my share of 180's and 360's. They sucked on the beach too. Not enough tread. Bridgestones UGH! I see I'm not alone on this. You can only get passenger tires (zilch on the tread) in a 235/60 R16. Tried 235/70 but tires hit bumper on hard turns. Email me if anyone knows a decent offroad tire that'll fit. corwin@bnl.gov

Basically a pretty good vehicle for the money. My 4 requirements in purchasing it were: had to be a stick, good gas mileage (better than the average SUV), beach compatible, decent price. The only vehicle to fit this category I could find.

Strength:

Despite some of the other reviews, total repairs in over 20K are: 1) Replaced air conditioning switch; 2) One misformed door trim replaced; and 3)A piece of upholstery replaced. And they provided a loaner for the one time it stayed overnight. Can be driven hard with confidence. As I said above, it climbs mountains.

Weakness:

If your door is hit rather than the plastic, or you lean on the car the wrong way, the metal dents. All the plastic (a maintenance blessing; an ambience curse).

Very good to excellent. For under 20K I received a "real" 4wd truck with full power accessories and ammenities. I chose the manual transmission for versatility. This configuration has pulled me out of pea gravel in low range, and also smokes the tires from a red light. In totally stock form, I have used this truck off road on repeated occasions, and am more confident in difficult terain than I believed possible. It literally climbs mountains.

Cruising to LA from LV and back it comfortably travelled at 80+ with the rest of the traffic. With the manual, a simple downshift assured that the truck did not bog on the high passes on this route. In a pinch, all three kids fit. There's nothing the truck won't do.

Similar Products Used:

Jeep Gran Cherokee: Actually more room in many respects. Jeep is more car than 4wd. GV is more 4wd than car.
Ford Bronco: Whips around traffic, parks, and performs off road better than the Ford. Won't tow the boat I no longer have, though.
