Strength:

Its fun, it looks really good. Strong features. Nice and compact inside.
comfortable seats. The dash, radio and climate control area is very attractive with the wood trim.Sound system isn't that bad.

Weakness:

The tires are completely the worst tires for an suv. Toyotas new rav4 and Hondas new CRV now use the same ones(CRAP, THATS WHAT THEY ARE).Bumpy ride.Doesn't handle that well on the highway, maybe because of the tires. My seats shake at about 130kmh. Theres a weird noise coming from the rear at 100-120kmh. Ive put all the extras you could ask for in the car and i dont think it was worth it. Suzukis value decreases rapidly after a year or two, almost 4,000 dollars.Exceleration isn't that great. Ive had the worst problems happen to my car starting at about six months after my purchase. I already have rust forming under the door and the front and rear bumpers. its a two year old car there should be no problems. When im doing in the city driving at about 60kmh the whole car shakes, like its about to shut off, which has occured at a stop sign before, 1 year after my purchase. My family owns 6 cars and i think this is our worst. This is my first car which i bought at 17 years old and know im 19, I dont think ill ever go back to SUZUKI , although their new models are attractive and tempting PLEASE try and resist the temptation. Its a nightmare. I know have 35,000km on my vehicle and almost halh of those KMS were put on my car driving back and forth from my stupid dealership which would always tell me there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, MOST OF THE damn mechanics are my age their babys.

I paid far to much for a cheap crappy car, I dont recomend it unless your looking for trouble and something to do.

Strength:

Great car to drive, I've had it for 2 weeks and I still get excited when I jump behind the wheel ! I've test driven (more than once) others in its catagory: CRV, RAV-4, KIA, they don't come close to the Grand Vitara's comfort, look, power and features. Once you've tried this one, the others will quickly be scratched off your shopping list !

Weakness:

Factory tires could have more thread (our Canadian winter is on its way)... this is all I can think off !

I strongly recommend this car to small SUV shoppers out there. Try it out, compare it to the others, I'm sure you'll come to the same conclusion: this car stands out from the crowd and is definitely the best car in its category.

Strength:

I love the vehicle!

Weakness:

Bridgeport tires. I have 21,000 miles and two are already worn out. I have had my alignment checked twice on the Brideport Dueler H/T687 tires. The walls on two are broken and dangerous to ride on.

If there had been another dealer in Alabama I could have shopped around and perhaps have beat the price.

Strength:

Value, styling, fun to drive. Plenty of head and shoulder room (I'm 6'2"). Not a lot of road noise, plenty of pep with the V6 for my needs, lots of options (leather, sun roof, cruise control, 4WD High & Low).

Weakness:

As everyone mentions - not much room for back seat passengers (I use as a commuting car so not a big issue). The stereo is so-so, they removed the 6CD changer in place of dashboard CD. Wish they'd set up the gas cap so it would stay attached - it's only a matter of time before I drive off without it. Would like to see more room for center console (cup holder, storage). Not as many Suzuki dealerships around the area.

It's early, but I'm a very satisfied customer to this point. Happened to stop by the lot on the day that the 2001 models arrived. I'd planned on looking at 2000 clearance, but after taking it for a test drive and once I saw all the features the 2001 Limited had for the price I decided to go for it. I bought an all Silver model (new in 2001). The power sunroof is a nice 2001 addition. If Suzuki did a better job of marketing (their website doesn't even mention 2001 models) I think there'd be more GVs around, instead of so many CRVs and RAV4s.

Was looking at Nissan XTerra and Jeep Grand Cherokee - couldn't touch GV on value. Never got around to test driving CRV, RAV4 & KIA.

Strength:

A lot of vehicle for the money. Suzuki doesn't "nickel and dime" on options unlike the Chevy Tracker (the GV's exact twin)...everything is standard for the most part. The V6 is plenty peppy if revved up. This is the first vehicle since my '80 Mustang that I actually enjoy driving just to take it out and drive around.

Weakness:

Small Cargo area. Rear wiper delay would be nice. Mileage could be better (got almost the same out of my '94 5.7L V8 Chevy P/U). Thin dealer network could be a problem someday "down-the-road" if something would happen on a long distance drive but that remains to be seen.

Looks like I'm the first to post a review of a 2001. I bought one of the first four 2001's that my dealer received. As a matter of fact, of those first four, two of them were sold within 18 hours of their arrivial!

The 2001's have "fixed" a couple of items that were complaints on earlier models. Both front seats now have arm rests and a CD in-dash now standard. Other differences between the 2000's and 2001's are strictly cosmetic from what I can tell.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend it to others. I don't know how to put into words how fun this thing is to drive. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Strength:

good price for all the equipments. we get a JLX+ wih stick transmission. good visibility. small size make it easy parking. I love the look with aluminum alloy wheels.

Weakness:

What we got is a double tune exterior color, we prefer unicolor. In addtion, the v6 does not very impressive. It performs well but mix with stick trans, it can not catch an grandam probably with an auto. Maybe I have to play more with my manual trans.

I like it very much, but my wife wish it could be a little bit more roomier. But the price we can get on CRV is about five grands difference with considering the APR difference for us. CRV don't worth that much!
I will recommend it after two years if I have not met any problems that the previous message talked about.

Similar Products Used:

not too much, if not mentioned sportage. CRV and RAV are just raised car. they can not go off road. Xtera is a bigger size SUV and more expensive. Tracker don't have v6.
GV is pretty unique. I like that.

Strength:

In the first six months that I owned it, I liked the 4WD on the fly, the looks, the size.

Weakness:

At six months, it started having engine skips and the 'service engine soon' light came on. I contacted the service department where I purchased the vehicle, and they told me to put 'Heet' in the gas tank. That did nothing. I took it in three times to be services and each time they told me that there was nothing wrong, and that they put 'Heet' in the gas tank. Since they would not take me seriously, and six months had now gone by, I wrote to American Suzuki and complained (since this was the only service dept. for MILES that would work on Suzukis). They told me to drive it 2 hours away to another Suzuki service dept. that kept it for three weeks, finally replacing the computer. On the drive home, the engine started making loud noises and I could not get above 35mph. I had to have it towed back and they said that the catalytic converter was shot, probably as a result of the other problem. I expect to get it back next week. Oh, and did I mention that the tires are shot and the brakes are going? Only 20,000 miles on this vehicle and I have owned it 1.5 years. This is a complete and total nightmare. What's worse is that I am leasing, and I can only drive it 12000 miles a year, so as you can see, I am over. The last time this service dept. had my car for three weeks, they put almost 2000 miles on it (to test it, you know). I can't afford this! I am totally screwed. What a horrible vehicle.

Would not recommend it!!!
