Strength:

Small truck-like SUV, tough enough to go over anything in its way. Fat tires give it great handling(use 34 psi on each tire). Sit just as tall as a Cherokee or Blazer for such a small vehicle. Good features for the money.
If you drive it right, the V6 can take on just about any SUV in any class.

Weakness:

First of all, I'm not a car critic, but I know a good vehicle when I drive one. Each vehicle has its weaknesses, but this Suzuki has very few. Gas mileage is poor, but who cares it still gets better mileage than those Cherokees and Blazers. Its probably the only true Japanese built SUV in this class. CRV's and RAV4's are built in North America.

If you are thinking about this vehicle, please take a long test drive so you won't end up like some of the people who critize it like they don't own it. It is smaller, but isn't that what you were looking for. Oh, its the price, you couldn't afford the other Grand mobile. Well, you certainly get what you pay for in the Suzuki and I can't say that about those American products. Get the Grand Vitara, Be a man!!

Our neighbor has a Blazer and even he loves our Suzuki. I certainly do not feel the same about his Blazer. Its ugly looking, no style at all. V6 is under power, it can get stuck over a piece of gum. Quality from GM is so poor. The tires on the Suzuki is fatter than the Blazer's, how' that work? RAV4's and CRV's are just jacked-up stationwagons. No style again!

Strength:

The only strength that truck has is its size.

Weakness:

The truck is to light, and on the highway its like you're going to blow away. Its to small, the parts are extremly to expensive. It shakes bad when your doing over 65mph.That truck is no good in the snow at all. Overall it is to expensive, its not worth the money it cost at all.

My truck has spunn out on me twice, my brakes went out, it cost 1200$ to repair(which is insane),If my fiance' drives then my poor daughter legs are cramed because it to small. As I write this letter I am experiancing some proplems with this truck, I notice yesterday when I put it in drive that it jerked. In my opion its a joke for an SUV.

91'Chevy Blazer. It does'nt compare, the Blazer had more room, better in the snow, it was just a better SUV!

Model Reviewed: Grand Vitara V6

Strength:

Few I would say, maybe the size of it, probably easy to park.

Weakness:

Hmm, where to start
1. Very poor ride, consisten shake both freeway and city. (car only had 7k miles on it)

2. NO ROOM IN BACK. I am 6'2 and no one could sit behind me.
3. No shoulder room in front, my shoulders touched the doors, and no I don't play football, only weigh 175.

4. Awful interior, junk plastic, makes my cheap 9.5k S10 feels nice. A joke.

5. NO power, yes, this was the V6.

6. Felt like it was going to tip over most of the time.

I had this as a daily rental, so my review might be kind of biased for lack of time using it.

Strength:

Great handling; good energy (manual transmission); sturdy; peppy; great styling. Handles well on snow packed road ways.

Weakness:

Tires (but they all seem to come with the really CHEAP, paved roads only tires). Swing open single rear door v. two doors.

I first saw the Grand Vitara at a mall in Rapid City last July and I was impressed with the looks, the price, and the standard features. I thoroughly researched the Subaru Forester, Honda CVR, Toyota RAV4 2001, Nissan Xterra. The main difference between the GV2000 and 2001 seems to be aesthetic. I decided my needs called for the larger V6 engine with manual transmission and "on demand" 4WD along with a sturdier "truck style" frame. When I first got my little Grand Vitara, I had been used to driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse and it was hard getting used to the handling and height of the driver. For an SUV, the GV has great handling, good performance/power, decent gas economy. The "standards" in the GV are all optional in the RAV4. The Toyota dealers didn't even want to barter. The Casper Suzuki sales guy was a typical "used car sales man". I ended up buying in Billings, MT, which is about the same distance. 2.5 hours is a short distance to see a dealer around my area. Hopefully, I won't have to visit them often.

Have driven larger 4WD at work which gave me a good feel for what I wanted. Used to smaller vehicles so the Grand Vitara fits me perfectly...as well as my two dogs!! :-)

Strength:

Great fuel economy for a little 4x4! Corners great, tight feeling when driving. Excellent visibility all around.

Weakness:

Doors require adjustment every year (road noise). Hard top is great. No water leaks. Factory stereo is poor.

Fun, Fun, Fun. I would definitely buy another one. I'll give this one to one of my children to drive. Looks good on the road (mine's red). I added oversize tires on chrome mags, overhead speaker console with upgraded stereo pkg., alarm system and fog lights. Great economical machine. Too bad they stopped making them.

Weakness:

Cant remove spare tire without having obvious recess and cant remove roof rails without exposing bolts.

I would recomend this SUV to anyone looking for unique value in an inexpensive small package. The 2 things I hear most is "WOW this is a SUZUKI?" and "Can I drive?". This SUV has changed my outdoor life in sooo many ways.

Strength:

Its great fun. Enough power to keep you zooming through traffic and push the tail out in the wet. The on the fly 4x4 work very well and it very important in the wet. Handles very well, good bodyroll and grip for a SUV.

Looks great, still get people randomly asking in gas stations how much it is how it does it drive. This is unusual for a $20k car. V6 in this class makes a real bonus, smooth auto helps too.

Interior is very useful, lot of storage. You can fit a lot of gear in this car.

Passengers have remarked how comfy it is in the back on long trips.

Weakness:

Vibration in steering wheel is a pain.
Seats could have more lumbar support.
Steering wheel needs to be better.
In the mountainins it can run out of breath up hills and has to drop gears which thoughs the cruise control out.
Off road the hard susspension throws you around a bit.
Dealer support should be better, that is a curse of most car manufacturers.

Someone wanting a great value, great looking, great performing SUV should look at one of these.

Strength:

Versitile, rugged, this suv handles great! We liked it so much, my siter and grandparents each bought one! A great color is planet gold. We have the only planet gold adventure package in alberta. The service at Red Deer Suzuki was great! This vehicle turns alot of heads. Sporty and comfortable. Good fuel economy. We also own a 1988 Suzuki samurai that we have had absoluetly no problems with. Everything is origianal.

Weakness:

Tire cover was wrong color, but was replaced within a week. Good car.

Would reccomend to first time buyers.

Yes I would recomend it especially since I now own 3 of them and oddly enough I perfer to drive the 99 because it has a few things done to it (its very fast and has 17" wheels). I am very happy with this great Suzuki design to say the least. Only wish they would have designed them to be able to remove the roof rails completly without the bolt studs sticking up. Love my Zukis
