Strength:

Everything you need in a vehicle and a few extras. Love the temp and direction in rear view mirror, as well as the cargo space. Classy looks. Drives like a car. Great visibility with low step in height.

Weakness:

Haven't found anything yet, except I have noticed the winding sound at about 80. Nothing real bad though. Not a great car for speed racer.

I am so excited! After being in an accident in my Saturn SL2 that saved me with its safety features, I wanted to buy another Saturn. I work on computers and have two boys in sports, so I needed something with more room that what I had. I wanted a SUV. Naturally I thought of the Saturn VUE. Unfortunately, I wasn't finding it in my price range. I spent an entire week looking at other vehicles, not being able to make up my mind. Finally I got a call from a dealership willing to put in one at a price I could afford. I couldn't believe it! I drove two hours to get there. When I arrived, it was everything I hoped it would be. Loaded except with no V6 engine. I drove it home that day and still can't believe I got the car I wanted. Thank to this website I decided I didn't want the automatic transmission in the 2002 model, so I think I am going to be very happy.

Personally I like the way it steers, it does not over correct like some other vehicles I have driven.

Please be careful. I purchased my Vue seven months ago and already I have had the transmaission replaced and it is currently back in the shop with a possible drive shaft replacement. Also my fuel guage is not working properly.

Strength:

Gets around pretty good in the snow.

Weakness:

Have a rattle the dealer can't find. Seems to be "normal" for the VUE. Too bad the salesman did not disclose this.

The VUE has noise issues. Gas mileage has never came in close to what is advertised.

Strength:

Plenty of power(3.0 V6), transmission shifts flawlessly(Auto), good gas mileage(21 city-26 highway, good fits and finishes

Weakness:

Antilock brakes hammer excessively, torque steer under heavy acceleration, cup holder so low as to be useless.

I have driven my VUE for more than a year. I am very satisfied with the overall performance, but I have had some problems. The rear brakes squealed from day one, but I thought it would go away. I live in a rural area so it wasn't a big thing, however when I took it to the city for a few weeks the noise was maddening. The vichicle had 30,000 miles at the time. I took the VUE to Saturn North in Clarkston, MI and the brakes were repaired at my expense (WEAR ITEM).A tecnician told me privately that the self adjusters had been incorrectly installed. During this same trip the SES light came on and I took it to the same dealership, they replaced the gas cap but that didn't correct the problem. They couldn't pinpoint the problem because their test equipment was out of order. (The light is still on) I contacted Saturn but have had no response. I also have to add coolant every 2 or 3 weeks in hot weather.

BUYER BEWARE: After 12,000 miles a knocking noise has developed in the engine. Saturn warranty will not allow the dealer to look into the matter. Saturn has told us that a KNOCKING NOISE is a normal operating feature of this engine. I looked in the owners manual, no mention of it there. Went to the web site, noting there either. A great KNOCKING NOISE that is considered normal by the manufacturer you would think they would want everyone to know about. It is a shame they don't let out the secret. They have designed a bad engine, however, they consider it to be normal. That way they do not have to warranty the problem. Saturn, they care about their products and customers. Yea, what a lie if I have ever been told one. And, we bought tow of the 2003 Vues. One does it, the other doesn't. However, according to the dealership, they all do it, knock when started that is.

Strength:

smooth ride, quiet, reliable, comfortable, stylish, Good access into vehicle from back doors, recommend to anyone

Weakness:

no way to open hatch from inside, not enough cargo space in back.

I have driven many vehicles in the past and the Vue is by far the smoothest riding vehicle I have ever driven. The price for what you are getting is exceptional. The polymer panels are going to be an excellent feature as the vehicle gets older. Variable transmission is awesome. Plenty of room inside. American quality for the right price.

Strength:

Easily $10,000 less than a comparable mid-sized SUV. Decked out my VUE was $24k. The cheaply made low end Toyota Rav4 I found was more than that. Great gas mileage. Right on the specs given. This is the first time that has ever happened. My 6-cyl gets 19-21mpg in mixed city/commuting traffic and 24-26 on long trips with the AC on. 6-cyl is strong and responsive, Stereo is great! I have the seven speaker with 6 in dash CD. Brakes are responsive and seemed oversized for the VUE since it stops much faster than anything I have ever driven. Low sound noise when traveling over 55. I had heard a review from someone that there is high noise above 55 but I haven't heard it.

Weakness:

Occassional cliking of CDs when played a very low volumes. Probably something is getting on the CD but it is so infrequent it isn't worth bothing about. Whistling when the SUN roof is open and traveling over 55. Not certain if this is normal. Would have liked a third power outlet in back. Would have liked a slightly larger gas tank. I can comfortably go 300miles on a tank but I would have liked 350 in city driving.

After reviewing and test driving nearly all of the mid-sized SUVs and one of the small SUVs I selected the VUE. I found that it had more power than any of the 6-cyl mid-sized SUVs and about the same size. The 8-cyl had more power but at 10mpg less I decided the 6-cyl was just fine. I've owned it for almost a year now with no problems or repairs. Just the standard oil and lubes. I have found that AWD work flawlessly, the brakes are much better than my neighbor's Jeep and the handling is better than all of my previous cars, except for the TR-6. I would strongly recommend this for anyone looking for a step up from a small station wagon or a in place of a mid-sized SUV.

Strength:

Galvanized steel cage. Dent resistant panels. Very smooth ride, good handling. Excellent customer service at my dealer.

Weakness:

Slight shutter at 65mph when I encounter an incline, however, most 4 cylinder vehicles will downshift on these inclines and the engine will race more. The VUE is very smooth with the variable transmission.

Just bought the 03 VUE 2.2 with variable transmission. Read many reviews before buying this vehicle. I have to say it seems most of the complaints are from the 02 model and I think a lot of problems have been ironed out. I asked the dealer about some of these problems. He said if anyone complains of creeking in the front end they replace the struts no questions asked. As far as wind noise, this is the quietest of the 4 Saturn vehicles I have owned. Three SL1's to date with no problems. My 94 has 180 thousand on it so far. Years ago I was a mechanic so I pay peticular attention to noises and engine sounds. The electric steering I feel is much smoother than a vehicle with a power steering pump. The water leaking on the 02's from air conditioning is a recall they have fixed. This vehicle has a galvanized steel cage and stainless muffler system which means no rust. The only minor problem so far is there is a slight shutter at 65 mph. Most automatic transmission vehicles will have some kind of vibration when you slow down a bit and the transmission is in a higher gear. A slight push on the gas raises the rpm's a little and the vehicle responds well. So far I think this is a great vehicle. The ride is very smooth and it handles well. Should I encounter problems I will post them out here. I am no longer a mechanic but I do service my own vehicles and prefer vehicles with no problems so I'm in the same boat here with the rest of you. Any problems WILL be posted here.

Strength:

Room, ease of access, economy, price paid, comfort of the seats I drive it about 200 miles a day.

Weakness:

Torque Steer under hard acceleration, lack of the availability for Satellite Radio.

I bought the vehicle as an inexpensive mode of transportation. I am fully satisfied with the vehicle. I purchased a factory special package..4 cyl, 5spd power everything and the larger tire/wheel package found on the 6 cyl version, what a bargain for 17,495. I have just a few complaints the first week I had the vehicle I noticed a clutch chatter/shudder when using reverse. this turned out to be the Tranmission mounts and replaced under a TSB (Tech Service Bulletin)I can not say enough good things about the Dealership as they are prompt courteous. This is our third Saturn. The first one was my wife's it was a 1992 SL-1 with 298,000 miles on it when we traded it on her 2001 LS3. The LS 3 has 61K miles on it and running strong and average 32 mpg highway. The Vue is our third and I average about 495 miles to a tank highway or 33 mpg. I cant wait for the redline version.

Have an issue I want to see if anyone else is having. With the transmission; Surges, loses power. Happens when going from first (30-35mph) to second and second (40-45) to Drive. Jerking when accelerating. Have had it in 3 times now, each time they work on it, it is different, but never fixed. The dealer said this is "normal" and all the L series have the same transmission with the same issues. I am just about to begin "fighting" with Saturn to get it fixed and want to know if anyone else out there is having similar problems. Email me if you do: dannyw1@cox.net Danny Wilson

Like most of the features, value. This is my 3rd Saturn. Size is exactly what I was looking for. Folding grocery carrier comes in very handy for more than groceries.
