Strength:

Quality build, quiet smooth ride, nice interior appointments, excellent stereo system. Four wheel drive system is easy to activate and use. Handles well on our gravel roads.

Weakness:

Rear mud gards are painted and chip easily. Came with Dunlop tires that are poor excuse on this vehicle. Nissan needs to add Michelin LTX MS as standard issue like the do on the QX4. Transmission has slight thud when power is removed. This link -up needs dampening somehow although it is very minor.

Test drove/ read reports on Toyota 4 Runner. My conclusion the same. Very poor ride. After many Toyota vehicles, decided to try the Pathfinder. Very glad I did. New engine for ''01 is powerful and incredibly smooth. This vehicle has 6,000 miles on it and is everything I hoped it would be as a family vehicle. Very nice carlike ride on trips, no wind noise, no rattles or squeeks. Vehicle has all the options and is very good all round vehicle. Ride is getting better and better with additional miles. Would definately recommend it to anyone interested in this class of SUV.

Strength:

smooth ride, quite, great visibility. Tall tire wall makes curb damage to rims a thing of the past. Styleing and appearence is in great taste. Size is just right, not too big for small parking spots. It also is no cute ute to let others know you mean buisness.

Weakness:

Occasionally i hear a clunk when letting off of the gas during a gear shift, it sounds like something is loose between the differential and transmission. I also have some rust on the metal near the gas tank openning.

The ride is great handles almost like a luxury car, if no problems develop with the clunk sound I will have no major complaints. Finally a good factory radio.

Strength:

It still drives after 63K miles...

Weakness:

Clutch, transmission, stereo, A/C, exhaust, warranty, dealers.

Don''t buy one!!! I brought this used, ex-lease from a Nissan dealer. Warranty not worth the paper its written on. Had it 2 years... most expensive car I''ve ever had. 3 clutch master cylinders, 2 clutch slave cylinders, 1 complete clutch kit, front struts etc... still has transmission problems, just out of warranty of course, stereo stinks, eats my CDs. A/C no longer works! Exhaust rusted! Verrrry thirsty. I would NEVER buy another Nissan or use a dealer who sold them!

Weakness:

Needing more capabilties off-road

I have had this car for about 6 months. Already I can say that i love it.If you are looking for a Suv this is it. It rides well and its off roading is good. with 240 horse power, you feel very comfortable. With great thrust off the line; you can get great pick up in the middle gears also.

Strength:

the engine, the transmission, the interior quality, and the refined good looks (it still tuns heads.)

Weakness:

slight understeer in sharp corners, but hey it''s a touring sedan not a s2000.

still can''t believe this vehicle has 125,000 miles on it. Bought it w/111,000. The mileage didn''t bother me it was extremely well maintained. the transmission in this thing is still pulling like the day it came out of the factory, shifting is silky smooth. the interior quality and features are pure luxury. plenty of room for four adults but five is a tight squeeze. I shopped around for a while and drove the 96'' es300, 97'' maxima le, and the 97 toyota avalon. This was the one that fit my criteria for a reliable second car that had a little luxury and enough room for the wife and new baby. I ended up with more than I expected and I know I''ll be driving it when the odometer rolls past 200,000.

Strength:

Good performance(remember, it''s not a full-size 4-wheeler) Outstanding reliability Sturdy/tight fit very good handling

Weakness:

Gas milage Torque(not enough) Engine isn''t too easy to do repairs to at home

The Pathfinder is a great little truck. It''s kind of like the "bunny" it keeps going & going. It does have a few minor problems, but endurance isn''t one of them. My truck has a tachometer w/ a mind of it''s own. At 3500-4000rpm it goes beserk! However the engine is runnning fine. Go figure?? I had a 97 Blazer that spent more time in the shop than on the road. I miss the torque, but I''ll sacrifice that for the reliability. when I bought the truck i drove it for 2 mo w/o a tune up. I changed the plugs(which were probably 94 OEM) they were TOTALLY burned out,(electrode was GONE) yet still the right burn color. That says alot!! Try that with a domestic SUV.

RIDES LIKE A TRUCK

MY FIRST IMPORT AND THE BEST CAR I''VE EVER OWNED BY FAR, TOTAL OF $16 IN REPAIRS IN 2 YRS AND 36,000 MILES. I BOUGHT IT IN 1999 FROM A NISSAN DEALER, ONE PREVIOUS OWNER,31,000 MILES. CAR FAXED IT ETC ETC. CONSUMER REPORTS DOES NOT LIE, THIS THING IS SUPER RELIABLE. JUST MAKE SURE THE TIMING BELT IS CHANGED AT AROUND 60-65K AS IT WILL RUIN THE ENGINE IF IT BREAKS. ANOTHER REVIEWER ACTUALLY BLAMED THE CAR FOR THIS?????????? HELLO???

DO NOT BUY A NISSAN PATHFINDER!!! I''ve had this SUV for only 5 months. I put on new tires and had the transmission fluid changed. Everything was going fine until the other night accelerating onto the highway it completely died. I had it towed to the local Nissan dealship. Just found out it blew the timing belt and in effect blew the engine. End result, $4700 in repairs ($2900 for rebuilt engine, rest is labor). I just blew $5000. STAY AWAY FROM THIS VEHICLE!!!

Strength:

Reliable drivetrain, off-road capability, good handling, tight interior.

Weakness:

Not enough power, bad gas mileage.

My wife just wrecked it on icy roads, and we are sad to see it go. It was always there for us and proved very capable off road. I took it hunting last fall, and I am used to driving lifted American vehicles with mud tires. The little Nissan with an aggressive all-terrain tire performed very well. Suspension articulation was pretty good. However, when it came time to replace the pathfinder, we bought a Ford F150 supercab 4x4 with the 5.4 V8. The Nissan''s 170 hp was not enough and our 17 mpg on the highway was embarassing for a V6 import SUV. Our F150 can tow more, has more interior room, and gets the same mileage, with 100 more horsepower. But, I just bought an `88 Pathfinder SE 2dr for me to drive to work and love it, they are great little vehicles as long as you don''t ask them to do everything.
