Strength:

-Sleek looking, mid-size SUV in a market that seems dominated by fat looking oversized Anerican brands. -Ground clearance that is at least as good as Explorer with a lower roof line making it feel much more stable. -Handles very nicely in strong cross winds. -Can (barely)fit a large garbage can in the back. -Very capable 4x4. -Firm ride.

Weakness:

-Really cheap sunvisor that is useless if you''re on a curvey road where the sun moves from windshield to side window. The Explorer had two visors (one under the other)which is a much better arrangement. -High ground clearance and low roof line translates into small interior. -If you''re used to American SUV''s, you may come up short on driver legroom with the Pathfinder. -Unusual sensation from the back of the vehicle when braking. Doesn''t happen all the time ... may just need an adjustment.

After putting 130K miles on a stick shift Ford Explorer Sport, I''m not sure this qualifies as driving. There''s virtually no engine noise, there''s no`clunk'' when the 4x4 locks in; and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly and quietly. In other words, it''s a little boring to drive ... but I like the pedigree.

Strength:

top rated, good power, durable, long lasting, good investment, well made, quality, nice dealerships, reale value.

Weakness:

cramped seating, expensive at the gas station.

Make no mistake about it, this is the top rated SUV on the market today. It''s an all around vehical, ready for any driving situation. Good weather or bad, on road or off road. It''s ready to take any detour or road construction they can throw at you. But being a well balanced vehical it is not going to be best at any one thing. Still, it will hold it''s own up against anything the competition has to date. They may come off the line faster, but you will pass them up many ways. first I hated this car. It was like buying a new pair of shoes that just did not fit, and were very uncomfortable. But in time, you start to adjust, and the shoes start to change to adjust to you. The advantage is, that this truck is durable and it''s going to go the long haul. YOu should not have any real problems for at least 10 years. Now, compare this to the Jeep Grand Cherokee I drove for 4 years before this one. From the first moment, I was in love with my jeep, the seat was so comfortable and so roomy. The ride was so soft. But after a few years, all that softness starts to break down, wear out and it''s time for a new truck. Sense a lot of people trade in for a new vehical every 4 or 5 years anyways, they don''t care. But, the problem is with resale value. Five year old nissans are worth a lot more than a five year old Jeep. The bottom line is, Nissan is a much better investment. Both Jeep and Nissan lose $5000 the first year. But after that, Jeep loses $3000 value per year, comparted to Nissans $2000 per year loss in value. The added advantage to the 2001 is that it has the bigger motor so it is going to be worth more and have a better resale value than the 2000 pathfinder will have. Ok, those are my biggest complaints, cramped seating, and of course the added price of the gasoline and the poor milage. But there are a lot of other litle anoying things. For example. There is no light for the ignition key. You can use the overhead light, but why should Ihave to. This is a truck that has a auto switch to turn the head lites on and off, so why should the lite for the ignition key at night not also be automatic. Then there is the problem with the storage compartment between the seets is two far back. Other things are very nice. The four way flashers is a big easy to get to button, that even works while you are still driving. Thats all the room I have, thanks, JohnR7

Strength:

Engine, DVD player, Navigation system, leather seats, sound system. Solid 4x4 performance. Extremely quite ride.

Weakness:

limited rear seat space. A major gas guzzler.

This vehicle has exceeded my expectations. The ride is quite yet the engine shows no signs of sluggishness you get from other manufactures to help quite the ride. Navigation system and the DVD player are incredible. We programed a trip to the fossil beds over a 100 miles away and let the nav system takes us there. The DVD is a must for kids. We put in Toy Story and gave the kids the wireless headphones for their listening pleasure. This was by far our most relaxing family outing.

Strength:

Solid body build for the most part. Drives like a car, but you still have the advantages of an SUV/Truck. Awesome sound system with 6 speakers.

Weakness:

-The only major problem I have had in 7000 miles of driving this truck is that the tailgate now squeaks loudly when going over bumps or even riding on rough pavement. It seems that the tailgate is a different material than the body. The noise is annoying enough to drive you crazy! Have to turn the stereo up to not hear the noise. Either Nissan will have to fix this somehow or I will just have to get used to it. -Also very low horsepower (170) for a 4000 pound SUV/Truck. I know Nissan has updated this in the 2001 model, but the low HP can be very annoying when passing someone on the interstate or going up hills.

Overall, a good truck and family vehicle to haul everything you need for the family around. Great for long road trips. Rides well on the interstate and in town. Very solid build (except tailgate).

Strength:

Solid vehicle. Handles well on the highway for an SUV. Comfortable on distances. Handles the abuse of the typical potholes, gravel roads. etc. without a problem.

Weakness:

Dealerships (enough said). Gas mileage is not the greatest. Bit of highway noise. Lousy handling in 2WD-High (Rear-Wheels) with anything slick on the road.

Bought the Pathfinder when the new model first came out. 240HP was the deciding factor. Awesome power! Have driven it all over the US and Canada. Great, comfortable vehicle for a road trip. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who can tolerate a lack of customer service - I have found that typical.

Just got it but love it already. Drives smooth, great handling and lots of power. Interior stylish and roomy. Highlander drives as well but instumentation one of the ugliest I''ve ever seen. Pathfinder king of the mountain in overall performance, value and reliability.

Strength:

Great off-road and in the snow. Cargo space. Nice looks. Good paint. Torque torque torque.

Weakness:

Stereo. Exhaust. Gas milage. Service. Dealship. Highway power.

I really don''t care for this thing much anymore. I liked it at first but the lack of customer service and having the dealship STEAL an extra $2K for an extended warranty I didn''t ask for did Nissan in. Crown Nissan in Greensboro, NC put the extra warranty in AFTER I already signed the paperwork. Then they don''t cover anything under the warranty! I ripped the heat shield off because of the blaring rattle. Nissan said they didn''t find anything wrong but a cop pulled me over on my way back from the dealership for making excessive noise. The check engine light has been on now for 30K miles on and off. This is most likely due to a faulty ground to the oxygen sensor-also not covered under the thief warranty. I went through brakes often, tires often, gas very often, shocks, and many squeaks. Don''t try to change the spark plugs yourself because the intake seems to eat the plugs and it takes hours to fish it out. Also the throttle is shot and the gas sticks off. I ran the truck with only 5 cylinders for 2 weeks and got over 20 mpg. It also helps to feed it much fuel injector cleaner. When you take off the gas cap it sounds like a rig with air-brakes! The tranny also slips occasionally. And my god is that stereo the biggest piece of crap or what??? Now the good. Yes, there is good after all. I like how it handles. It has tons of torque. It really is quite compitant off-road and especially in the snow. It looks great. Pait is holding up well after 95K miles.

Weakness:

I agree with other reviews: the running boards are useless. compartments in doors hard to clean.

thanks to this site I avoided buying a Grand Cherokee. Couldn''t afford another 4runner so we looked at other SUVs. The pathfinder is by far the best value for the money. we love it.
