Strength:

Good solid ride. Fit and finish of the interior was excellent, though the interior was no better than Sentra or Altima. Good cargo space, better than Grand Cherokee with that huge spare in the hold. Decent stereo system.

Weakness:

Weak brakes and horrible squeak; embarrasing for a vehicle at this price.
Weak engine, 160 bhp. Cheap "Hot Wheels" looking wheels on XE. Nissan soon addresed horsepower and ugly wheel in subsequent years. Annoying rattle coming from "somewhere" in the roof. Puente Hills Nissan in So. Cal absolutely refused to supply alloy wheels even when I offered to pay for them?! Salepeople were indifferent and impersonal as usual but even when signing the deal to the lease? Sorry, finally got to vent even after all these years. Will never buy Nissan because of their sales division.

Guess I'm biased because I hate driving all SUVs now, unless I'm actually in the wilderness. They all drive like pigs. Got a BMW 3 series afterwards and was reminded how fun driving can be again. Get an SUV if you need to feel tough.

Strength:

Great car. oops, did I say car? SUV. Phenomenal ride, super engine, liquid engine mounts isolate the engine incredibly well, very very quiet, and smooooooth.

Weakness:

34k... there should be those electro dimmer rear view mirror. suit pants get dirty while geting in & out brushing against side step. want dual climate control. may be a button to open rear window rather then using the key. I think the outside temp gauage is inaccurate. would like full time 4x4 or button to activate 4x4.

Paid 34k out the door. leather, sunroof, cd changer, 4x4, tax, desti, etc
This has got to be one of the best suvs out there. smooth power, deceptively fast, handles lika an auto & feel great driving it. originally bought this car intending my wife to drive, but I like it so much may keep it for myself and buy her another car.
Brother drives a limited-- pathfinder is much more civilized ride
good friend new limited--- more civilized ride
explorer------------------ ride
4runner------------------- $$$ $$$ $$$ no clear winner/preference

Strength:

This is the best vehicle I have ever been in. I compare this vehicle to a Cadilac, when it comes to comfort. Comfort is knowing that everytime you go to start the SUV it will crank and run smoothly. I have never had a problem from this truck. It handles great on road, off road and on the highway. Gas milage is even great, 17-20mpg. The two door model still has great cargo space, with a comfortable back seat. Great for camping, traveling or just having a s an everyday car. The road noise is actually very low.

Weakness:

I can not think of anything.

Great vehicle, Buy one used to save money, Nissan has great customer service, and great value on a car. I paid $10,500 for an '88 in 1997, it has lost little value, and now has 143000 miles on it. Nothing but a great vehicle, although I am getting ready to trade it for a Mitsubishi Montero-after reading the great reviews they have. Besides its almost time to get a new car. Good Luck- Car shoppers!

Strength:

Smooth, Quiet Ride
Very Agile (Handles like a dream)
Great Sound System (Bose)
Smooth Clean Lines
Excellent A/C (Driver/Passenger)

Weakness:

Would like to see Dual Climate Control
A tad more room for my Backseat Passengers
Better Stopping (This puppy needs her space to brake on a dime)
Faster Acceleration (Takes a bit before she really moves)

I am happier than a pig in a poke with my Grey Lady. Great price and overall bang for the buck. Fun to drive, actually, let me re-phrase that,
"It is an awesome vehicle" I have the LE with all the comforts. I'm on the road for 104 miles a day. She provides me a smooth, quiet ride. This is my first SUV and will not be my last. I will hope to see alittle more room for the driver. I'm 6ft tall and I could use a tad more room. Gas milage is okay for a vehicle this size. Which, as far as I have seen with comparable products, it is right up there with the best. Gives a feeling a safety and I get a lot of looks. She is a very nice looking truck. My next purchase will absolutley be another PathFinder LE Edition. I reccomend it highly. Take her for a test drive at your Nissan dealer, you will get it first hand.

Strength:

Its very good off road and its engine keeps on ticking

Weakness:

Its engine does not have any get up and go

I would recommend an older pathfinder over a new one. If you are looking for a good snow vehicle and not a suv that compares to a sports car, get an older pathfinder.

Strength:

i am a firm believer in that any car you buy, should be fun to drive...after all, alot of your time will be spent in it, and boy is this car fun to drive! aside from the things the "carguy" side of me likes (good acceleration, brakes, responsive steering, 240 freakin' HP), i love the amenities that make me go to the farther away grocery store just so i could spend more time in the car. the leg room in the front seats is great for me (being 6'3''). I was smart enough to get the Bose system SE instead of the non-bose XE, and boy am i glad i did. i didn't know sound systems in a car could sound this good right out of the dealer. The 6-disc CD changer is in dash! now theres a smart idea. Also the insurance a a lot cheaper than what i had expected. can't say much on reliability, only had it for 3 weeks direct from manufacturer, not even been on the lot!

Weakness:

when i pull up a stoplights, many people seem to stare at the car (or is it me they're staring at :)(just kidding(don't you hate it when people use parentheses?))), and i feel bad that they don't have such a cool car. seriously, the blind spot is tough to see even when you turn around, i had to get one of those blind spot removers. in the back seat, my head hits the roof if the seat isn't reclined, thid row of seats would of been good to compete with durango

very good car for 30,800 (that's for everything:car, tax, title, license, warranty) my purpose for use isn't very heavy on the off-roading, which is why i didn't get the 4wd, but this car isn't great for romping even with the 4wd(xterra's probly your best bet for that). outside of that, i'd definitly recommend this car to anyone that can afford it, its got pretty good crash test ratings as well, for an suv at least. have a nice day, and happy reading!

Similar Products Used:

test drove like every comparable SUV in market (4runner, explorer, durango, passport, blazer, grand cherokee) pathfinder had a quieter ride, more "car-like" feel, better sound system (i'm a teenager, gimme my loud music)

Model Reviewed: Pathfinder LE 4wd

Strength:

Awesome powerhouse. Great looks. Leather package worth the cost. Lots of standard options. Plenty of cargo room. Rides like a car (better than a lot of cars I've driven). Bose stereo w/in-dash 6 disc changer sounds unbelievable. Wood trim emotes luxury and quality.

Weakness:

The only problem I found is that my head touches the roof if the seat is fully upright. (luckily the leather package has 2 position seat memory, so with a push of a button my seat is just where I like it.)

$31,000 for 4wd with leather package and limited slip differential.
$34,000 with tax, title, destination, extended warranty, etched glass, lojack and all other hidden costs.
Respectable price for all the options and the quality that is evident as soon as you sit down behind the wheel.
Nissan has a winner.
Now, if I can only convince my wife to share.

Similar Products Used:

Blazer- Cheaper cost with cheaper quality and poorer ride.
Explorer- Fewer standard options, similar price, rougher ride.
Durango- 11mpg., rougher ride, less for the money.
4Runner- Toyota's pricing- need I say more?

Model Reviewed: Pathfinder(Chilkoot Ed)

Strength:

This is a fabulous vehicle. Reliable, durable, great off-road. Bose stereo
sounds great. In BC Canada we had this model(chilkoot ed) available to us
it was a real steal, basically fully loaded (no sunroof or leather) for right around 30,000 cdn. If you are looking to buy a SUV don't bother looking at any others.

Weakness:

-Maybe more power, but you can easily live with it.
-Absolutly nothing else.

For the price of this vehicle this is a no brainer. If you want more luxury
go up to the infiniti. I would recommend this vehicle to everyone I know. So if you don't have one go out and get one. I would give it 10 stars but I can only choose 5.

Model Reviewed: and Pathfinder

Strength:

car-like ride (for an SUV)
nice sound system (both of ours were fully loaded, so the Bose system)
comfortable front seats
nice acceleration
good gas mileage (for an SUV)

Weakness:

not that great of cargo room (for an SUV)
back seats are terrible

My parents had two Pathfinders; one while I was in high school and the other they just got. Whenever I talk to friends about it, I find myself qualifying most of my statements with "for an SUV". And that sums everything up about the Pathfinder: it is a GREAT SUV. But what does that mean? The fact of the matter is, not many people need an SUV. You get an SUV because they are cool looking and somewhat useful/practical. But for everything that is practical about an SUV, there are other things that are just as, if not more impractical. Things you get with an SUV/Pathfinder: bad weather traction, cargo room, & safety. Notice these things are NOT unique to SUV's. Things you also get with an SUV/Pathfinder: bad gas mileage, terrible handling, & endangering OTHER vehicles on the road (yeah, you are safe but what about the car you just hit?).

If you must for some reason get an SUV, the Pathfinder is a pretty good one to get. For the price, it is unbeatable. But please re-examine why you decided on an SUV; they rarely, if ever, make a whole lot of sense for the average consumer.

Strength:

- Powerful 240hp Engine
- Bose stereo w/six cd changer
- Automatic Temp Control
- Very quiet ride
- Side seats airbags
- Best crash test results in its class.

Weakness:

- Could use better arm rests
- Vehicle can sit higher.

I was not going to test drive the Pathfinder. My mind was set on the 4Runner. This was after test driving both the 4runner and the Montero Sport. I had time to kill before I went back to purchase the 4Runner so I went to the nearest Nissan dealer just to see what they had to offer. I'm glad I did! My initial thought looking at Pathfinder is it sits lower than the 4Runner but when I got behind the wheel and took it for a test drive...WOW! This SUV hauls butt and has a little more room in it than the 4Runner. The engine was quiet and I just like the way it drove and how it looks inside and out. The best part was the it cost less then the 4Runner and the insurance was lower due to the oustanding crush test results. If you drive the 2001 Pathfinder you will buy it.
