Strength:

People who don't know about the car always ask if it's new b/c of the beautiful factory paint, but I actually bought it used. The car is a perfect weekend driver to Tahoe or even to the city.

- car like ride (i put on new Bridgestone A/T Dueler tires, a lot more beefier and rugged then stock tires)
- the size is perfect for parking in any occasion
- girls love it =)

Weakness:

Gas Guzzler. Well for a high school student trying to pay for his own gas.

The car is an excellent SUV you can still buy used without paying too much.

Strength:

Smooth ride, quiet, lots of power, good looks, drives like a car, 6CD changer in dash, very comfortable

Weakness:

Gas eater, rear seats don't have enough leg rooms.

Got my pathfinder 2001LE fully loaded for a very decent price. This car is great. It drives like a dream, so smooth, quiet, powerful, and very comfortable. The auto mode that controls 4 wheel drive is sweet, so I don't have to shift gear myself. I love the 6CD changer in dash. I'd recommend it to anyone who is shopping for a new SUV.

Strength:

Handles beautifully, very car-like.
Solid feel.
Outstanding fit and finish.
Comfortable driving position.
POWERFUL!

Weakness:

Likes gas.
Cheezy-feeling outside door handles.

I drove a 4-Runner for about 15 months, bought it new. Fine vehicle, lumbers along like a smooth-running small truck. Seems powerful until you have to climb a grade, then has nothing to give. Sits very high, difficult to enter and exit. TERRIBLE factory audio system.

I drove the Pathfinder SE on a whim, mainly to check out the 240HP engine. This vehicle knocked my socks off! Not just the extra power either. It feels much more nimble, tighter, fun to drive. I decided then and there that this was the vehicle for me. I've only had it a short time, and I'm already enjoying the heck out of it. This is a keeper. All I can say is it feels oh-so-much more "right" than the 4-Runner.

Don't buy any new SUV without giving the Pathfinder a test drive. You would be doing yourself a great disservice by not checking it out.

Strength:

1.Price - I got mine in 92, seemingly just before the SUV craze kicked in. As such, I was able to pick up a bare bones Pathy for $19,500 Canadian. This was a 5 spd, no power anything, 2 door (last year they made them), open differential. I budgeted for $25k, and used the extra money to load it up with my own aftermarket gear
2. I like the overall reliability. It has 135,000 km, and nothing major (apart from manifold studs) wrong with the engine.
No problems with transmission.
3. Still on ORIGINAL Brakes. I can't believe how long they have lasted. Must be the downshifting that saves on wear and tear.
4. Body on frame construction: I have been rear enede twice now. Both cars were severely damaged (over $5,000). Damage to my Nissan - $0. Well, a bit of a bent bumper, but I felt sorry for buddy's new Neon getting wrecked so I didn't claim it.
5. Ride height - can see two cars ahead in traffic, and over the HUGE snowbanks that get piled up on intersections out here.

Weakness:

1. Big complaint about the exhaust manifold studs. This should be a factory recall. At least a free warranty work.
2. Dealer Service - I will never buy another Nissan again, based on their service and mechanics skill. This is really too bad, because the product is pretty good, but I have caught dealers in borderline unlawful scams. You really need to watch what they're up to! I can't emphasize this point enough. I hope Nissan wakes up and shakes out some of their dealers. No wonder why they rated last in Consumer Reports.
3. No cupholders, but you can get a set that fits into the ashtray.
4. Poor gas mileage, even for an SUV.
5. You need to plan ahead before you pass into an oncoming lane.
6. Body floor has a 6 inch hole rusted through. Other body rust around door frams and rear hatch. Though to be fair there is a lot of salt used up here, and the truch has been stored outside since day 1.
7. Rear wiper seized after 4 years
8. Air conditioning stopped after 5 years
9. HVAC switch replaced after 8 years ($400 - OUCH!)
10. Replaced tie rods with Moog parts when OEM's need fixed.

It has held its value. I checked out some of the Autotrader.ca prices, and 92-94 Pathy's are still selling for $9-$12,000 Cdn out east. I think that any vehicle that has only depreciated 50% in 10 years is pretty good.

I added some after market rims, lighting, suspension lift etc. It proved to be fairly good off-road with this set-up, though it could benefit from a locking differential. I don't go 4x4'ing anymore, and have since removed the big tires and the huge shocks. It rides much better now!

If you do plan on buying a pre-96 Pathy, make sure the exhaust manifold studs have been replaced with stronger bolts. Check for body rust underneath the seat area and around the doors. Find out when the timimg belt was last changed.

It's hard to not recommed it. In and of itself, it has been a very reliable truck. If you value dealer support, then I would not go with Nissan.

Strength:

Reliability - Has never left me anywhere

Weakness:

Chronic exhaust problem

Paid 15,000 for 37,000 lease return vehicle. Replaced trans, rear end and transfer case at 95,000 (still drove it into the shop). Now has 195,000 & still going. Orig motor, no oil drips, smokes or usage. Though exhaust repairs never seem to "stick," car quiet for 3,000 miles and then starts leaking again. I understand most Nissans have this problem. Same thing with trans, the steel wool filter breaks down in the radiator trans cooler, the particles get sucked in and ruins the trans. When you do your trans, replace the radiator.
I would recommend on grounds of reliability. I am still jealous of the Toyota rear window vs. the Nissan flip-up one.

Strength:

I like the reliability. 133000km so far and no costly mechanical problems. My mechanic doesn't recognize me anymore. I also like the 4x4 ability, interior space and the solid ride (doesn't bounce like a blazer). Looks good too!

Weakness:

I'm having some electical problems. The heated seat doesn't always warm my bum when I push the button. The rear speakers quit working because the rear amp was faulty. If I turn on my rear windshield wiper, it won't ever stop(I never need it anyway). My only other complaint is my crome bumpers are rusting from the inside out and is impossible to fix.

I paid approximately $16000 canadian. It was worth the money and I plan to have it until it dies(hoping for 10 years+). If you don't like to shovel snow, I would recommend at least test driving a pathfinder before deciding what sort of vehicle to purchase. You'll notice a difference compared to other SUV's. However, if you want speed...buy a car.

We brought the first New-look pathfinder into Samoa which is full of Toyota 4runners. This '99model pathfinder blew them away. One of the best cars on the island and has started to become very popular here in Samoa due to it's reputation here that it is much better than the 4runner.

If you can't afford the more stylish Infity Q4x4, this is the truck for you

Not enough power although you should not be buying an SUV if you are looking for power.

Paid for 26000 and would highly recomended.
