Strength:

The most comfortable SUV I''ve owned! Love the 240hp engine and the looks of the vehicle.

Weakness:

Transmission is shot after 26000 miles!

Purchased a 2001 Pathfinder LE about a year and a half ago. I now have about 26000 mile on the truck and all of a sudden the transmission goes! The power windows are terribly slow! During the winter one of the windows would not even roll up or down! I owned a 1997 Pathfinder before this one and NEVER had a single problem! I really did like the 2001 Pathfinder until this problem occured. On top of that the service manager at the dealership accused me of abusing the truck (over the phone!) The truck has NEVER been off the road!

I am very displeased with my pathfinder. It has the same exhaust manifold problem that my 1990 pathfinder had. I will not purchase another nissan.

I would recommend this SUV for those who are into luxury/comfort and power. I am very impress on Nissan''s latest for the Pathfinder series. The 2001 Pathfinder proves to be on top of it''s SUV competition.

Strength:

drives great
nice styling
very reliable
lasts forever
good cargo space
nice leg room in front(im 6'2" and i have more room than i need

Weakness:

paint going bad
hard to put in new rear speakers(have to remove a ton of pannels)
mpg

I love this truck. Its taken me through school with no mechanical problems at all and has over 200,000 miles. My only complaints are the clear coat is frosting and i think the whole hood and roof will be covered by the end of the year and the drivers side mirror broke off(but it was my fault, i droped a surf board on it) and the drivers side lock broke so I have to unlock it from the passenger side which has a different lock because someone tryed to steal my beautiful ride and ruined the old one. Over all I like driving it better than my friends '95 landcruser, at least in the city. 16 miles a gallon kind of sucks too but its an suv and i havent had it tuned in 100,000 miles so i can't complain. Styling is way ahead of its time, most people think its a mid '90s when they see it. Interior has held up well with normal wear for how much its been used, nothing has broken inside. Its not a sports car but its great on the road. Buy it if you can find it it will last.

'95 landcruser this doesnt compare in the hills but the pathdinder is much more comfortable for a taller driver and for the price ill live with a poorer off road performance
'95 grand cherokee this thing sucks, my friend owes more on it now then when he bought it because it keeps breaking down. And it drives like crap

Strength:

Luxury at $5K less than the equivalent Infinity QX4. Handling. Safety. Stereo system.

Weakness:

Somewhat limited cargo capacity.

The 2001 Pathfinder LE is an excellent choice for a mid size SUV. I purchased it with the leather package giving it a very luxurious feel and ride. It handles well in most weather conditions and the new 240hp engine exudes authority on the road. It doesn't have problems with wind noise up to 80mph and the standard Bose sound system with the in dash 6 CD changer and cassette is sure to please. Additional standard features include the roof rack and running boards amongst others making it an exceptional value. I haven't had a true off road experience with it precluding my ability to comment on this aspect of its performance. I also would've liked a tad more cargo space. Given all of the above along with exceptional customer satisfaction (JD Power 2000 Compact SUV of the year) and 5 star crash test ratings, this SUV should be on your short list should you be searching for an outstanding value in the $30-35K range.

I test drove the '01 Acura MDX, '01 Mitsubishi Montero LTD, '02 Mercury Mountaineer and the '01 Mercedes Benz ML 430. I found the Pathfinder to be a superior ride, handling securely in comparison. The MDX was a close second but when I was told that I would have to pay $2K over sticker or purchase $4K in options in order to drive one home, I told the dealer where he should go.

Strength:

I really like the interior of the LE as well as the 240 horses under the hood. The acceleration is smooth and the ride is enjoyable.

Weakness:

It's hard to find a weakness. I think the floor mats are a little on the cheap side. I'm not too big on the door handles.

I purchased the new 2001 LE Pathfinder and it was the right choice for me. I knew I wanted an SUV, so price, style, size, and quality was what I was really looking into before buying this vehicle. This definitely has a car-like drive.
There are many SUV choices in the market. I looked at the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Explorer, and Toyota 4Runner. While each of these SUV's offer individual benefits, it does not beat the total package of the new Nissan Pathfinder.
Also, I came close to getting the SE because this has a great-looking cloth package in case you don't like or want to pay for leather. But the added accessories of the LE more than make up the price difference.

Strength:

Very reliable, Rear-Wheel drive when swithed to 2WD mode, very nice equiped (for the price), powerful & smooth engine (240hp), nice ride, good quality components (e.g: using steel timing chain instead of rubber belt).

Weakness:

Drum brake on rear instead of disc.

We bought it last summer in Michigan and have used it almost a year. It's been trouble free and worked very well in last cold winder and heavy snows. Although its 4wd is part-time and we need to remember that, we didn't feel any inconvenience. Its ride is generally smooth and not like some truck-based SUV's. Its off-road duty is probably median but we mainly use it on paved road. The value/price ratio seems very high. Will surely go to a Nissan/Infiniti dealer first when shopping next time if they make a mid-size RWD sedan.

Strength:

ENGINE ROARS, black leather looks and feels incredibly sharp, great Bose audio system, handles like a dream, will shock you in mud, forest, getting to your pitch, whatever you do off-road.

Weakness:

limited toe-room (yes toe-room)
Have to remove head rests to fold rear seats.

Out-performs everything out there. I drive my PF hard, and have had no electrical or mechanical problems whatsoever in 5 months.
Really tough SUV that loves getting dirty. Best looking SUV around, in my opinion. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THE PATHFINDER.

Unless sea-foam is the color for you, there is really no reason to get the QX4 over the LE. Speaking of girl stuff, my wife loves this thing too-
enough that she forsakes her beloved Toyota to drive the Pathfinder any chance she gets.

*The 5-speed SE 2WD model which a friend of mine bought is REALLY fast, by the way. He trounced me 0-60 on pavement... but can't hang off-road, of course.

Similar Products Used:

4runner- under powered compared to PF. Handling loose. Interior lacking.
Durango- stiffer, uglier, worse handling. Good power, though.

Strength:

The extras; sunroof, 4WD, Bose stereo, interior space is roomier than the 4 runner, quiet ride, gas consumption is only slightly higher than the piece -o- junk 97 Suzuki I was tortured with for more than three years. Easy fold down back seats, rear door opens up rather than out, like the Isuzu Rodeo.

Weakness:

Terrible handling, though from what I've read, this may be relative to my pathfinder exclusively. The faster I'm going, the more it sways when I go over a miniscule bump in the road. It's downright dangerous. Really uncomfortable front seats. Ground clearance could be higher.

I bought my Pathfinder used (4 years, 44k miles)and aside from the handling, I could not be happier. I checked out the Isuzus, even a Ford Explorer (I am a die hard Japanese Manufactured vehicle fan). I loved my 4 Runner, and if I had been able to find a deal on one, I would've definately gone back to Toyota, but the fact is that they just cost too much. For the money (16,500), I got all the amenities with the Pathfinder, including the nice ride. I would definately recommend the Pathfinder to anyone who wants an SUV to use daily. I wouldn't take mine off road driving because It's too nice, but it was a lifesaver in the snow (No, not in Florida). That crappy Suzuki couldn't get up a parking garage ramp without a running start. For people wanting an SUV because everyone else seems to have one, get a Honda CRV or stay with the sedans. It takes more attention and skill to drive an SUV in the city (safely), and I'd definately figure how many times you thing you'll need all that extra space in determining whether you want one or not. On elast note, if you have large dogs, avoid leather... My shepard and lab weren't allowed in the 4 Runner because of the leather seates, but they love going for rides in my Pathfinder.

Similar Products Used:

Toyota 4 runner, Suzuki Sidekick (The most awful vehicle on the face of the earth). Toyota's reliability, ground clearance, gas mileage, looks were better, but the Pathfinder's interior room, ride and amenities caught my attention. Pathfinder is definately the better value all around.

Strength:

Great SUV. It takes us everywhere we want to go in Colorado. Winter in the Rockies is no problem for the 4X4 system on the Pathfinder. Roomy and feels like a car on the road. It has a good ride and is reliable.

Weakness:

Gas mileage. Although its one of the better SUVs for gas consumption it still chugs it down. I commute 70 miles in a day with it.

I purchased it when the 1999.5 model just came out so I got a steal. I recommend looking when the old models are being closed out. We are very satisfied with the 1999 Pathfinder.
