Strength:

Accelleration, auto headlight/foglight, Bose stereo system, climate control, dependibility.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, rear seating for adults is a little tight.

The perfect SUV, great handling, fantastic engine (240 hp), and very comfortable interior. Bose stereo sounds great and exterior appearance is beautiful. I was looking for an all-around performer & this is it !

Strength:

Very good handling (esp for an SUV), ride is better than most cars I''ve been in. Build quality is flawless and better than my Tacoma; haven''t found a manufacturing defect yet. Engine is strong and smooth, if a little high-revving. 6 disc CD changer/Bose stereo is superb. Automatic climate control system works flawlessly. The 4wd/awd system is unique (to my knowledge) and is very well suited to the Minnesota winter. This, the ABS, and solid handling inspire confidence on icy roads. Very good interior and exterior styling. Instrumentation is clear, uncluttered, and good looking. Interior is comfortable and made of quality materials. By the way, I''m a 5''11" American and find the driving position/front room to be perfect.

Weakness:

OK, the gas mileage is not great (about 17 to 20mpg) and the premium fuel is some extra change. Guess that''s the price you pay for an SUV with such a sweet engine. And also the rear seat legroom isn''t great.

Traded in my 1997 Tacoma 4x4 for a black Pathfinder LE with cloth interior. Was looking for something that rode/handled better and had a little more in the way of creature comforts. Well, I certainly found what I was looking for.

Tested the Highlander - the only vehicle with a comparable combination of ride/build quality/price/features. It''s a solid vehicle with a ride that may be even slightly better than the Pathfinder. S

Strength:

Powerful V-6. Corners like a car. Very light on the road. Excellent brakes! In dash CD changer is nice and one of the first models to offer. 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, towing package. Excelent service from Nissan Serive staff and dealership!!! They even do full work on Saturdays!! Not true with American Dealers.

Weakness:

Have to use premium fuel. The service engine light came on at 3,000 miles - dealer reset and found no real problem. I have to say, Nissan service staff was ex lareive250 horsepower is nice but RPM''s are too high. This vehicle (as with most foregin cars)was desgined for Japanese-sized people. I am 6 feet/200lbs American and had leg and foot cramps due to the tiny interior. Seat does not move back far enough and sits too low. Headroom is too low. Back seat even worse. Cramped interior and rear cargo area. Rear seat headrests prevent driver from seeing out back winow - had to remove. My left shoulder is 1 inch from the window (I call this the "Japanese pinch"). Left knee hits door panel, right hnee hits 4WD shift - had to remove knob to clear my knee - it should be an electronic button standard. I got rid of it and bought a 2001 Durango R/T and have plenty of room. Much bigger and stereo is better. If the Pathfinder were larger and comfortable I would have kept it. We''ll see if Japan decides to accommodate the American human body in it''s future desgins and maybe then I''ll try another Japanese model. As for you 5 foot 8 and smaller Americans, this vehicle is for you!

The vehicle truly drives like a car with tight, agile handling due to its mono frame. Styling, fit and finish are very nice. Overall good quality but interior was too small for me.

Strength:

Powerful engine, Carlike ride and handling, Bose 6 CD system (sounds Great). Body and interior style. Reliability record. Cargo room. Excellent paint and leather interior. Comfortable ride. Ect.

Weakness:

I''d have to be really nit picky but the gas mileage would be my only gripe. But this is an SUV not a Honda Civic.

I just traded in my 1999 Toyota 4 Runner limited for the new pathfinder. There is absolutely no comparison between the two. This SUV is superb. My LE is Super-Black with the Charcoal leather interior. Super sharp.

Strength:

Drives more like a car. Well-designed dash. Decent legroom despite criticisms of backseat in some magazine reviews. Known for reliability. Lots of nice extras in LE.

Weakness:

Doors seem light and we often don''t close them all the way. Have to turn key to open back hatch (vs. a push knob). A bit short on headroom, could use another inch or two. Doors don''t sutomatically lock after putting engine in gear (a useful Blazer feature).

We traded in a 1999 Chevy Blazer for a 2001 Pathfinder. The Blazer worked fine but always drove like a big truck, with rough transmission shifts and a tippy feeling. The Pathfinder is much more car-like. I actually enjoy driving it, and never cared much for driving the Blazer. I am hoping the reliability and safety of the Pathfinder pays off, as I usually like to keep my cars for at least 7 years and hopefully more. It has only been two months, but so far, so good. See "strengths" and "weaknesses" for more.

Styling, Power, Comfort, Rugged design, and Value.

Weakness:

A few rattles and squeeks, gas mileage sucks, braking distance could be better.

Only 1500 miles thus far, but an excellent value in a motor vehicle. I was seriously looking to purchase an XTerra, but the salesman -- looking to unload a very large inventory of Pathfinders -- convinced me to give the SE a look. I feel in love. Not only with the car, its features and its ride, but with the end-of-model-year deal that they gave to me. My SE is fully-equiped, black as night, and sweet as honey. The interior appointments and attention to details is almost unbelieveable in a vehicle at this price. I parked next to an Infiniti QX4 the other day and I KNOW my SE put his "luxury" SUV to shame. The 3.5 litre engine with its 240 horses is awesome and lets me drive the Turnpike with confidence and comfort. Highly recommended

Strength:

240 hp, 4 wd, suspension, interior styling and detail.

Weakness:

Windows tend to rattle. Had 98 240 sx and it is deja vu all over again. The truck givs the option of saving seat adjustments for 2 drivers. This is good. When you save settings for each driver, the mirror settings are not included in the settings, thus each time the setting is changed the driver needs to adjust the mirrors.

Awesome truck. Lots of power and excellent road handling. We got the LE 4WD with leather and the comfort level of it is very high.

Strength:

Appearance, comfort, resale value

Weakness:

need for constant repairs, high cost of repairs, spotting of the wood trim apparently due to perspiration from the hands while adjusting air flow, etc.

I bought a Pathfinder in 1988 and loved it. I bought another in 1993 and am sorry I traded it in on a 1998 Pathfinder. It has been a lemon from the beginning with numerous problems and repairs. It has now been the shop over a week getting a new transmission at a cost of $2600. It only has 65,000 miles on it. Right after I boutht it, a loud "clunk" began occuring whenever I stopped the vehicle. Nissan finally "lubricated" the drive train and the noise stopped. The windshield cracked due to a stress fracture, and it was replaced. Then the spedometer went out and was also replaced under warrantee. I am now shopping for another car, and it is highly unlikely I will ever buy another Nissan.

Its a sleeper no suv can out run this one and the looks are the very best.

Weakness:

Haven''t discovered one yet. maybe steering is more sensitive diff. steering ratio then the others takes some getting used to.

This is the best pathfinder ever, I''v leased the 1995 pathfinder se 4x4 and for 4 yrs of the best trouble free ownership. Turned that one in for a 1998 se 4x4 and again only one thing went wrong, rear axle oil leak on rear brake drums warrenty fixed everything they even sent all parts to japan for examination but 4 yrs of great trouble free enjoyment. Now I''ve traded that in for the 2001 LE 4x2 and I am in love with the best performer i''ve ever had. What power the others didn''t have, wow! smooth ride throttle response is fantastic. Bose 6 cd player is great and easy to play while driving. No more 4x4-ing but not doing that anymore.
