Concept. The ride, especially on the highway, far exceeds my expectations. The interior is very well thought out, with nooks and crannies just where you need them. Most gauges have a great retro look and nice lighting, but some don't - see below. Great rear styling.
Weakness:
The Chicago area dealer network was simply horrible - reminiscent of shopping GM dealers in the 70's with my parents. Too many stories to tell here, but consistent throughout the area. Not just a bad apple, a corporate attitude I suspect. (I should say that Nissan USA seemed to take my complaints very seriously, but I absolutely would not do business with this group). Some interior gauges looked like the first GM digital displays from circa 1980. Very inconsistent with the overall refinement of the design. The blind spot is a real issue. I've gotten used to it, but this should never have been considered acceptable. Overall I love it. I've waited for a true cross-over for a long time. The Escape is a cheap truck, most others are too big, and I'm too cheap to buy the BMW. This is truly a great car with just enough utility. Sure, you give up a bit of performance, but they struck the right balance. Great job to the design/engineering team! It's a bold design, so pick a bold color. I went with copper interior and exterior. The inside is not for everyone, but black would be too hot, and the tan scuffed when you looked at it the wrong way. |

Looks incredible--a lot of compliments. Steering and handling is strong. Is very responsive and quick when I need it to be.
Weakness:
The power seat controls are too far back, the controls on the steering wheel should be lit up, the shaking at the front end and the steering wheel could use some heat. Those are pretty simple really--only common sense for the future years to come. The car is awesome overall! I love my sunlit copper murano. I have raced alongside bmw's, and to my surprise, I had no problems doing 90mph around corners! The sport really kicks it up a notch. I purchased everything you possibly could with the murano, and the nav. has helped me out a few times! I am working on producing a show car out of this. The only thing I couldn't see paying for was the chrome wheels--a rip off if you ask me--2k? There are a few things I would change if it were up to me, like the controls to move the seats are too far back, the controls on the steering wheel should be lit up, and the shaking in the front end needs to be taken car of--it only does it between 45-60mph. I thought it was because of the ice that had accumulated, but the ice is gone from underneath the car, and it still shakes. A beautiful vehicle. It looks like a concept car that went straight to production. Colors are limted to how much you are willing to spend but hey, do we really need another Teal or Banana Yellow choice anyway? It handles like a dream. I now look forward to the curvy country road to visit relatives. Gas mileage is pretty good for a "car" this size. Basically, I LOVE THIS CAR!!!
Weakness:
Plastic scratches very easily inside. I don't mind the cup holders but people are right that drinks are easily spilled. Radio is just okay. I didn't get NAV system but the middle console IS difficult to operate. (What's that toggle switch really good for?) Unless I'm doing something wrong, I seem to only get cold air from vents in back. THE KIDS ARE FREEZING!!!! Please note: these are only minor squabbles. It really is a great vehicle, however, if I have one more person say "I like you Ford Focus......." This is one of the best cars I have ever owned. There really isn't anything I don't like about it, maybe a little more attention to detail would be in order. Looks. Have gotten lots of complements on it. Power. Strong engine. Very comfortable and nice ride.
Weakness:
A few. Defrost isn't that good. Takes a while to work. There is a slight rattle that sometimes happens. Can't pinpoint location, it is in front right side somewhere. Noise from sunroof is bad if it is open fully and driven under 30mph. This is fixable if you just open it to the next to last slot. I got my Murano back in June. I went w/ a 3 year lease since that works best for me. The first couple of weeks, I got lots of people coming up to me in store parking lots asking me about it. They loved it. A couple in their 50s came up to me as well as a guy in his 20s. It looks so good. I got the orange (not sure what it is called) color that is featured on the brochure. I got mine fully loaded minus the chrome wheels and the DVD since I didn't need either. I really like it. I test drove a lot of SUVs before getting the Murano. It drives like a car unlike most SUV's. It is about to start snowing here back east and I'm looking forward to seeing how it drives in the snow. Lots of power. A great ride. |

Very comfortable (the driver's seat seemed uncomfortable at first but after that long trip I became very comfortable and now I'm having trouble finding the "sweet spot" in my Audi's seat!). The V6 engine is AWESOME! This is a very useful vehicle, just the right size too. LOTS of back seat room, and the back seats recline too! The BOSE sound system is absolutely unbelievable-the subwoofer makes all the difference. Seat memory and having a compass in the mirror are also great features (especially the seat memory if you have more than one driver), as is the auto-dimming feature of the rearview mirror. Also, you can recline the seats from the back hatch area, which means no running around to the car's rear doors to flip the rear seats down when you need more room! It also has a nice trip computer feature that gives you digital reports of your trip, such as fuel economy, miles left in the gas tank til empty, hours, average speed, etc. And it has an automatic maintenance reminder system (which you can turn off if you want) that will help you remember when to change oil/rotate tires/etc. Bottom line is this vehicle has many (perhaps all) of the features of a much more expensive SUV like the Volvo for A LOT less.
Weakness:
This was a GREAT first year production for Nissan, but with first year cars there are always improvements that could be made. I would encourage the Nissan engineers to drive this vehicle at night before designing next years model. The steering wheel controls for the radio, cruise, etc should definitely be lit up. And the homelink system located on the rearview mirror is an awful location-because as you fumble around in the dark to find the button you're bound to knock the mirror out of adjustment every once in awhile. Also the cupholders (as the others have said) are definitely an odd size; their usable, but I wouldn't totally let go of any drink on a bumpy or twisty road unless you have two drinks sitting side by side because it may tip over. The only other thing I can think of that would be nice is a heated steering wheel; it's offered on Maximas I believe and would fit right in here with all the other options. Just bought this sport ute USED with 3000 miles on it about a month ago! Original sticker was just a tick over 36K. Awesome so far. Just took it on a 1000 mile round trip vacation and we love it! Didn't plan to buy a sport ute; we were originally looking at an Infiniti I35, but this had more of the features we were looking for and it drives like a car. Similar Products Used: This is our first SUV. We originally started out looking for an SUV and then ruled them out because we couldn't find one that had plenty of room while also providing a non-truck-like ride. We test drove the Honda Pilot, Volvo sport ute, Chrysler Pacifica. This Murano was way ahead of them all. |

Very spacious. Lots of cubby holes (that are lit up too). Nissan thought of all the things you think would be cool to have but you've never seen before... like if you turn the car off with the music blaring, it will gradually come back to volume when you turn it back on, instead of blowing your ear drums and giving you a heart attack. Dual climate control in the FRONT of the car. The holders inside the doors pop out so you can get your hand down in there to reach whatever's at the bottom. The backseat reclines! Neat things like that. It is fast. Nice to know I have the power when I need it. Multiple air bags, including curtain airbags and ones from the sides of the seat lining your arms. It can really make your music sound good. Everyone will think you spent tons of money enhancing your sound system... but you didn't! And, of course, the LOOK. Gotta love all the stares and the "what IS that?" 's.
Weakness:
Cup holders are a tad awkward, but still work. The $800 billet grill I bought at the dealership same day doesn't fit all that well. Must be a bad mold or something. Not worth the money. Awesome! This car is sexy, classy, and smooth. It is my first car that I myself own and pay for. I feel safe in it, which is a big thing for my fiance and me. Before this car, I had a Honda Civic. I was so close to that steering wheel (being 5'3" and 100 lbs) that if anything happened that air bag was only inches away from me. The Murano's pedals (electrically) move up to you, so that you don't have to move the seat closer to the wheel. Big plus. All the safety features and air bags are nice too. And it can go... when I step on it, it goes with my foot. And with the CVT transmission, there's no jerk back in the shifting process, ever. It just... goes. Point being: a fun, safe, useful, smooth, reliable, efficient, slick SUV. There's no other SUV in it's class that looks and rides like the Murano does. Highly recommended. Similar Products Used: Driven plenty of bigger vehicles before (SUVs), but not as my main vehicle. It's not the big, bulky square SUV most people are used to seeing and using. My fiance absolutely loves it. And if I listed all his vehicles we'd be here for days. |

Styling, center pod, wheels, motor, seat-pedal controls, sun roof, safety features (air bags, etc), interior color-deep russet, interior leather will last longer than more expensive softer leather as long as conditioned, cool xenon headlight leveler, plenty of room front and back seats for people of all sizes- FUN TO DRIVE- easy to see entire road-high up yet also easy to enter vehicle.
Weakness:
cup holders are weird in size, tiny ashtray (but is illuminated),can't turn on fog lights without headlights being on, speakers rattle when anything is in side pockets (bad because I am a slob) I am always disappointed after purchasing a vehicle-it is just me, so I am shocked to find I love my Black Murano with its 18" chrome wheels as much as I did the first day I drove it home. It's a screamer in styling and frankly it is fun to watch the Porsche SUV owners give it the eyeball to see if there is $55k worth of differences!! Forget the Lexus' and Beemers-there are so many of them out there they have become boring. Gas guzzler sure, but I like zipping through traffic and knowing I have the power if I need it. City or highway driving, this is a fun, comfortable and safe vehicle to drive. I love clicking the key fob three times and having my windows slide to down to air out the car and freak out people who are standing nearby! Besides all that...it just looks HOT!I have every option except the AWD because I'm keeping my baby on the road. This is also the first car I have every owned that my husband (he the driver of corvettes and big pickups) absolutely loves to drive. Handling, power and gas mileage has been ok. I am getting around 18-19 in town and around 22 on the highway. Great looks combined with excellent interior quality.
Weakness:
Sound system missing the highs. Cup holders are somewhat funky. Vibration in front end causing the steering wheel to shake. Love the looks and the attention that I have received by owning one. I have had my neighbor now buy one after taking a test spin in mine. Ride is excellent and the interior in second to none. Stereo is somewhat weak on the tweeter side up in the front. You cannot adjust the system to bring out the highs that are missing. The greatest problem that I have had is front end problems. The day that I picked it up the vehicle pulled to the left horribly. I figured no problem and took the vehicle to the dealer. I picked it up after the repairs were supposed to be done and found that it no longer pulled to the left but now I had a vibration and severe steering wheel shake between 40-60 MPH. I have since had the vehicle at the dealer seven more times and still I have no resolution. They even sent it to a Chevy dealer to have the tires balanced on some special machine. I now have up to fourteen weights on two of the wheels. Rediculous!! I have now screamed at the dealer threatening lemon law. They have e-mailed Nissan corporate for resolution. I still think it is a tire that is bad although it has been to a tire dealer and the tires where checked with no problems. I have owned seven Nissans in the last eleven years between my wife and myself. In fact my son in college and is driving my wifes old Altima. I am so sour I will never buy another Nissan. This has been just unbelievable. My wife has been talkng about trading her car in for a Maxima but I will sway her from this now. I traded in a 2002 Maxima that I loved and only owned for a year for this Murano that I just had to have. Oh well Nissan, you messed with a dedicated buyer of your products that buys on a year to two basis. I will shop somewhere else since you have yet to fix the problem. I now feel the only thing that will win me back at this point would be to give another brand new Murano but we all know that won't happen. Another appointment set for Monday when they are actually going to take the tires/wheels off another new Murano and put them on mine to see if the vibration goes away. Even if it does I am done with Nissan. Also forgot to mention that because they have had my wheels and tires off the vehicle so many times the wheels are all scratched up and I have demanded they be replaced.
