Strength:

Looks kinda nice and makes people think you''re a successful investment banker.

Weakness:

The fact that this vehicle was ever let out of the production line would make Henry Ford roll over twice in his rotting casket.

Micrappybishi Montero (95/SR) is a cluck of virtual ass dump. Purchased with only 33,000 miles on it, it died at 78,000. The damn clunk threw a rod the size of a prehistoric turd through the engine housing. It originally had an oil consumption problem and an electronic system that made Atari''s Donkey Kong look like The Matrix. The local dealership knew about as much as Forrest Gump knew about theoretical astrophysics. On top of that, they were crappers to boot. Their good will policy is "send your car to Goodwill". Thanks a lot Micrappybishi :)

Strength:

Off road capability, seating comfort, visibility, body lines.

Weakness:

Acceleration and strength of long grades. Wind noise at A-pillars and at windshield.

I''ve owned 4x4 trucks and BMW 3''s, 5''s, Z3''s and Audi A''s and A8''s; and the Limited is the perfect combination of both divergent attributes I''m looking for - true offroad capability coupled with luxury, reliability and safety. I''m truly having fun with this vehicle, and feel comfortable pulling into valet at any event.

Strength:

looks is the best thing I like but the dependability is good

Weakness:

seems a little lazy on a hill but if you tromp down on the pedal it comes to life.

I love the vehicle, it looks classy and seems to be very dependable. Gas mileage is very good for a mid-size SUV.

Strength:

Looks, size (compared to other SUVs), gas mileage?

Weakness:

Consumer support philosophy: "Get lost" That''s why they got a LOT of bad press this year. (see the New York Times)?

Very dissatisfied. Engine blew 2000 miles past warrantee. Factory showed no interest in helping -- in fact dismissed me and the problem. Repair cost $1400. Hood spontaneously popped open at 70 mph. covering windsheild and nearly killing my family.

Model Reviewed: Montero Limited w/ rear air

Strength:

Nice interior and exterior great sunroof seating up to 7 smooth engine sounds nice suspension is tight and corners good interior is luxurious

Weakness:

low power but it is adequate with the tiptronic shifting going up hill is a struggle, loud engine noise for inclines. so preparation for an incline is necessary by accelarting before the climb, not trying to accelerate during the climb.

I got a mitsu montero limited w/ rear air from the guys at Viacom Mitsubishi in San Mateo. I''d highly recommend this dealer to anyone!! No haggling involved + they gave me the car at invoice price. Ask for Phillip, he''s the owner. Anyways, I got the car for its looks, and luxurious interior, not so much for power. I had a suburban and that had a bunch of power but was a gas killer! The mitsu is a japanese car so it can rev higher than most american made cars. It can''t compare in performance to the x5 but its also $10k less.

Luxury at a reasonable price

Weakness:

paint on rockers being blasted

This suv is wonderful! Never owned and suv before, wasn't sure how i would like it. I tow my boat with it, and although more power would be nice, the autostick 5 speed really does help. The Monty has been in the news because of roll-over tests, what one has to realize is this is not a car!!! The ride quality is superb as well as the fit and finish. Why would anyone spend the extra 10k for a lexus? I must say i like the low number on the road because it is SOOO unique.

Strength:

I have two other cars viz. Lexus IS 300 and Nissan Pathfinder. I have certainly taken it off the pavement onto dug up logging roads and it has performed well. On the pavement it performs extremely well. It seems to respond a lot quicker than my Lexus.

Weakness:

None

This is the best handling and one of the quickest cars that I have ever driven. Takes corners like a charm. Certainly doesn't feel like a SUV. It is also a great looking vehicle and certainly turns heads wherever you go.

I have two other cars viz. Lexus 400 and Nissan Pathfinder. While the X5 is not meant to be a heavy duty off road vehicle I have certainly taken it off the pavement onto dug up logging roads and it has performed well. On the pavement it performs extremely well. It seems to respond a lot quicker than my Lexus.

Strength:

Superb Handling for a large vehicle, great visibility and does not lack power. Very unique dash assembly with compass, barometer and altimeter that adds to it's features as a vehicle made for the outdoors.

Weakness:

The fold-away jump seats can be a hinderance when loading large objects into the cargo area.

You will not find a better SUV in the $30,000-$50,000 range. I have driven most models of SUV's and there is not even a close second.

It surpasses the Land Rover Discovery in it's handling. I would recommend a test drive of the two, you will notice the difference.

Model Reviewed: Montero XLS

Strength:

The smooth ride and the aerodynamics and restyling of the vehicle makes it stand out from the rest.Oustanding luxory.Drive the LTD or XLS before you drive anything else and you will get that rush. Also the sunroof is great it's just like riding in a full size convertible.Making the 3rd row seats storable.

Weakness:

Acceleration to 60(But who's trying to race)

Great vehicle. It's just like driving a Landcruiser or Lexus but thousands cheaper.I traded in my 97 Montero LS and the 01 Montero is bigger built sturdy for the off-road and smooth for the highway.Rides great on the open road I had the vehicle at 95 mph and it road very smooth you can tell Mitsu put some work in this vehicle.Gauges are right together so you would not have to hunt around for them it was made with simplicity in mind.

This car sucks. It was in the shop from the day I bought it until the day I sold it. I drove nothing but loaners. Also, the seats are uncomfortable and the gas mileage is lousy. I should have never wandered into the Mitsubishi dealer. I would recommend that no one else does the same. It's back to GM for me!
