Everything else not mentionned in strengths especially Gaz consumption. This is the worst car that I have ever owned. Within the first month and at 2000Km, I had to send it for repair for burned headlights. No biggie. I can live with that. 5 months later, I discover that the car was out of alignement since day 1 and that killed half of the life on the tires. Trip computer was repaired twice, headlights burning twice, brakes replaced at 6000km, hornes replaced, windshield washer and wipers breaking and then the ultimate is the transmission or fuel pump or whatever that is. They still can't figure out the problem. It has been in repair for close to three weeks now and they still can't tell me what the heck is wrong with my car. It broke while I was driving it on the highway. All of a sudden the car starts hesitating and feels like I am driving barely with 100 horsepower. I am so mad and not happy at all. These cars are not cheap and yet I would have been better off driving a $30K (canadian currency) car. I owned many cars before and have not had 10% of the problems that I am having with this car. The beauty is that I get the runaround everytime I get it in for repair. I hate it. I learned my lesson Never again a BENZ. Similar Products Used: Mazda Tribute (very satisfied) Escape |

Comfy and roomy enough for kids and our St.Bernard. Stereo is good (Mercedes doesn't make them). That's pretty much it. My new car requirements are now just a good stereo.
Weakness:
mouldings. Gas consumption (i figured this going in, but it's gotten worse). All electrical wiring. Mercedes not taking responsibility for their crappy product. Brakes need to be replaced every nine months at a cost of close to $700.00. I may be back to add more... Finally bought my dream car. Mercedes managed to make it a nightmare. First splurge on a high-end car only to have it start falling apart. Highlights include: Window controls going out twice (in rain it's very fun). Doorlocks burned out. After returning to work from the dealership on a long lunch hour, the steering wheel fluid reservoir burst, steering immediately froze and I almost too out our company logo. Back to the dealer. After that, backlight's burnt out, side-seat panel literally fell off, hanging by the seat-control wires, was cracked in half (I'm not at all overweight) and they simply screwed the broken panel back on, maybe hoping I wouldn't notice. I did; when it fell off completely. Front light is currently out (it's at the dealership right now, and this writing is doing me a world of good) and I'm waiting for the other "wheel" to drop when I get it back. I'm shopping for another car currently. Mercedes dealer tried to rectify the situation, but, really, at the end of the day, the car is simply a glorified Chrysler. Funny thing is, my mom had several Chryslers when I was growing up and I watched them all fall apart. I vowed never to buy one. Poetic. Similar Products Used: Nothing. I had a Pathfinder, which I could kick myself for trading in. |

Mercedes ML320
Strength:
- good solid drive with predictable handling - excellent in moderate to heavy snow conditions - spacious rear hatch and folding seats allows for transport of large items - comfortable ride suitable for long trips - solid chassis and cage ensures high safety factor in event of collision
Weakness:
- mechanical reliability has much to be desired - insufficient leg room for tall individuals (e.g. 6 feet +), especially the driver !!! - very large blind spots caused by rear headrests and massive roof pillars (on other hand probably very safe) - very weak plastic shell bumpers guarantee multiple replacements over the life of the car. - multiple purpose navigation/radio display is useless in moderate to bright sun conditions - large balloon tires susceptible to flats - gas consumption was brutal with 8 - 10 miles city and 17 - 19 miles highway (with a light foot - replacement parts are expensive (not to mention dealer labour) - glove compartment that has no room for gloves if you keep the user manuals in The purchase of our 2000 ML 320 was both our first foray into the SUV market as well as purchasing a Mercedes Benz (MB). Lured by MB's legendary reputation of quality, engineering and craftsmanship, we undertook a three year lease with the intention to buy the car out at the end of term. By our third year and 60,000 kilometres (36000 miles), we could not wait to give back the car and walk away. We were initially satisfied by the handling, performance and ride of the ML320. On highway and country roads, the ML320 handled well and never gave a sensation of imminent roll-over, even when taking curves quickly. Braking is very good. In snow, the handling was exceptional thanks to the all-wheel drive and we would regularily park in snow drifts all but abandoned by other vehicles with the confidence that we could get out at any time. The ML320 also proved to be a safe vehicle as evidenced by two accidents in which we were rear ended and we emerged without a scratch (in one, the other car was a total right off while our ML320 needed a new bumper) Our disappointment however came from countless reliability problems which tainted our perception of Mercedes quality. Problems included: - burst fuel line which stopped the car dead and spilled gas everywhere creating a potentially hazardous situation - driver side window rocker swith failed - passenger side seat belt failure (e.g. would not fasten) - very weak bumper shells (we replaced three shells in three years, two because of collisions but one because of bumping a guard rail at less than 1/2 mile hour) - leaking transmission - oil burning in our third year at rate of 1 quart per month - 2 flat tires (due to screws) which Mercedes insisted had to be replaced rather than patched - two burnt out headlights - engine and fluid levels going on all the time (in third year, rarely was there not a warning lamp burning) - replaced brake pads after 20000 kilometres Our frustration grew as the ML320 was required to visit the dealer every other month to get something fix or replaced (Service level, at Downtown Mercedes Benz in Toronto, was excellent and prompt). While we have many positive impressions (e.g. safey and handling) we could not help but be disappointed with the vehicle given its price point and the manufacturer reputation. I think we were expecting perfection but reality was that we were driving a decent but faulty vehicle that is over-priced. For potential buyers, I would recommend against purchasing the ML320 new. There is too much grief for the money that you will be spending. On the other hand, walking in with eyes wide open (and armed with an extended warranty), I would suggest looking at this vehicle used (e.g 3 years) after the major depreciation hit has been taken and the vehicle is more fairly priced. |

Comfortable seats The SUV drives like a Mercedes (smooth with great handling) I like the cup holders Exceptional paint
Weakness:
Gasoline consumption is a major turn-off Tires are expensive Mercedes dealership is too overpriced and a little too snobby for my taste. Back headrests make it impossible to drive (I take mine out) Could accelerate faster Brakes should be better - MBZ usually has great brakes Mercedes are too costly to maintain Replacements: Window decals, Driver's side heated seats (Literally burnt my butt), lightbulb burnouts, key failure, washer fluid reservoir leaking, electical problems (moonroof, i front door inside panel broken... Overall, I'm pleased. I'm not much of an SUV person, but someone in the family should have an oversized car. Brought the car to Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills (yesterday to have the window decals replaced and to check heated seats. Got a courtesy car (C240 - which was the car I almost bought new...a little tempted to change cars) at no charge. No MAJOR problems yet! Worst complaint: MBZ dealership. I planned on buying a factory GPS system on my own, but MBZ won't install it unless you buy it from them. Wanted to upgrade headlights, but they refuse to sell and install parts (even if I were to release liability..come on) 2003 GPS system is $2600 installed. By the way, I would highly discourage you from buying at Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach, they are awful. Think of used car salesman in cheap suits... I bought for the name. Now I realized that Mercedes are the Worst Cars.
Weakness:
The Battery Died with 6 months in less than 12000 miles. Now the Engine Check light is ON for the last 5 days and the 800-number guys says it has something to do with the gas tank cap. It is not picking up Speed on the Highway and bucks when I start to move. The tires are so expensive. I believe it is the most unreliable Car/SUV I have ever owned. I use to let my wife drive as reliable vehicle, but now I drive it because I am stuck with it and it has lost more than 1/3 of its value in 2 years. I purchsed as the show room model ML430 Year 2000 in Jan 2001 and already had 5000 miles on it. Similar Products Used: Dodge Grand Caravan, Toyota Fore runner, Camary. |

none...no joke. Not a single component on this SUV is something that is better then any SUV out there, the only thing you get is braggin rights...i drive a mercedes....when its not in the shop during the weekdays when u need it most...
Weakness:
1) Brakes! (need to get them looked at nearly as often as ur oil change) 2)Engine Wire harness(dies, BIG $$$$) 3)Fuel Pump(even my friends ML's have had there pumps die, naturally...) 4)Check engine light, always comin on, somethings wrong 5) many many faulty sensors 6)Battery leak... 7)Tire eater 8)....i've spent over $10 000 in repairs, i can keep listing, but those are the major faults...shame on mercedes... READ THIS, EVERYONE!?!?!....DO NOT BUY THIS SUV!....every thing that never breaks down on your car, will break down on this truck. Horrbile all american made truck, which people think is German quality...drives like a pontiac, breaks down like a ford, loses value like a K-car, and only repairs cost like a mercedes. WARRENTY COVERS NOTHING, whatever dies on it naturally, mercedes will tell u we're not covering it since we beleive its neglect...my fuel pump died, and it wasn't covered!..at 12 000 miles. Its a digrace how mercedes put together such a horrbile truck, everyone reading this, honestly, save your money, this truck is not worth your money, and more money(costly repairs), and the frustration of owning a mercedes and driving it half the time when its not in the shop.....buying a RX330....since my wifes RX300 has been more reliable then this bucket mercedes put out... This vehicle has more troubles than my old BENZ 1989 190E. I owned three Mercedes in the past and other brands but this model is the worst one. For a Mercedes this vehicle does not live to its name. A lot of torque and exelent engine performance for this V8. Good looking body design. Just love the (front and side) view. Rear view still looks like a VAN.
Weakness:
Ride and steering is not realtime. Too floaty to bouncy. Shame on Mercedez for letting all this faults go on for all this years since the ML came out in 1999. Same old problems, same old low quality. Very very little improvements if any. Console controls premature problems, plastics breaking. Brake pads worn out at 30,000 KM. Headlights burning out every 500kilometers(about). Tires worn out (feathered edges) at 35000 kilometers. For a Mercedez, it DOES NOT live up to its name. Do not buy this model. (ML) I am very disgusted and dissapointed. See Above Many, Many problems with this vehicle. The most frequent service issue I have had involves the headlights. I have replaced the headlights 3 times and today I am taking the vehicle back to the dealer because the headlights just stopped working. I also have the issue with the lock fluttering that I read about in other reviews. There are major electrical problems with this vehicle. I will not purchase another Mercedes product.
