Strength:

The best looking suv on the road, too much power from the 300 h.p. Intech V8 and while accelerating produces a very pleasing exhaust note, very comfortable seats, climate control system is great, handling is good for a suv, rides better than my 97 Cadillac Deville which i regret owning, great audio system, navigation system very usefull.

Weakness:

No Xenon HID headlights, cant get sunroof and rear a/c together, at 1300 miles the fuse for the ac blew and i fixed it with a $1.00 dollar fuse. Doesn't offer the continentals personalizable features.

The navigator is the best 4x4 on the road and if i could i would tale it on every long trip i went on, very comfortable.
Recommend it too- people who need a large luxurious suv with lots of power and towin cabability.

Don't recommend it to- People who can't afford one or who can't handle a vehicle with such a huge size.

Strength:

The roominess in the car is very sweet! It's an attention getter, and i love getting it! Throw in 2 tv's and 20" chrome rims, it is the best luxury 4x4 you will ever buy!

Weakness:

nothing really, except for a little noise on the engine, but that went away!

i would recommend this 4x4 or 4x2 to everyone, my parents, brothers , sister, neighbors, and friends love it! Especially me!

Test drove a Lexus LS470, couldn't decide which one, but since the Navigator had a navigation system and far more cheaper than the LX470 ( about $20k cheaper i think). Navigator seemed like it had more room! A big plus for Lincoln!

Strength:

I like the way the navigator feels on the road, big, safe, and able to handle any road condition.

Weakness:

No locking gas door and My seat feels a little hard. The upgraded Alpine stereo cooks my tapes almost to the point of melting them and the smell of burning plastic never goes away.

I am writing this review to warn those eager to buy the Navigator. This morning, Saturday, while on my way to work, my Navigator broke down. I called the Ford breakdown line and was taken care of very nicely, but the operator informed me that if I were more than 35 miles from a Ford dealership, that I would have to pay for the distance above and beyond the allotted 35 miles ( not very comforting). My Navigator broke down with eleven hundred miles on the odometer, and five hundred of those miles were already on the vehicle when I bought it new. So here I am, stuck on foot, with my vehicle parked in front of a Ford Dealership that doesn't even open their doors until Monday morning, two whole days away. Thanks, but no thanks. I would like to return the vehicle and buy something I can depend on.

Strength:

Luxury for a relatively low price. Lots of room and lots of horsepower (300 hp). Smooth ride and low maintence.

Weakness:

Doesn't like to pass gas stations. Tires wear quickly. 3rd row seating cumbersome to move in and out.

I traded in my 1997 4Runner for this 1999 Nav and the only thing I miss is the back window that could go down while driving. The Nav is more comfortable for all passengers. I have had to take my Nav in for servicing only once, and that was for recall items. I have never encountered a prblem with the transmission, engine, electrical system or any major component. Visibility is fine and parking is simple. It may drink a lot but I drove this truck from Amelia Island, FL to Princeton, NJ and filled up with gas when I left FL, filled up in North/South Carolina and filled up again when I was well into NJ. I highly recommend this vehicle. I'm going to trade it in for another one for sure.

Strength:

Ride is beautiful

Weakness:

Tires are bad - Manufacture will not replace - Had two flat tires caused by 2 small stones in my driveway. Have two plugs put in one tire by 2 different dealers. We are afraid for our safety. The dealer has had to replace electronic equipment e.g compass, wiper switch. Very disappointed in the car.

$40,000 - I would recommend The MB ML 320 and 430 to everyone. We have had it 6 months - We are getting 23 miles to the gallon.

Strength:

comfort, ride, quality, high spec, does not look like any other suv.

Weakness:

not many realy- tyres a bit too narrow and hence sqiuk at corners,a lazy gear shift under hard acceleration which does no justice to the 300 hp engine.

this is my 3rd nav and i have never bought same suv twice before.
fantastic alpine sound, very roomy, truely luxurious and very very reliable, unique in looks.
better brakes and wider tyres are points worth considering.

Strength:

Interior, Room, Stereo, comfort, appearance

Weakness:

one unlocatable intermittent rattle that just disappeared after two years.
Yeah, the tires shredded on the highway one at a time, but they were very smooth and quiet up to 32,000 miles. The new Goodyears are loud and rough.

$41,000 in August of 97, I was the first on my block. Aside from just being pretty on the outside (in black), it has the type of interior room that makes you feel like you have plenty, and not just enough. The interior is as luxurious as anything out there, even luxury imports. I heard a slight tap at 40,000 miles, asked the dealer, and had a new engine in two days. I really can't complain about that. It is terrific for highway trips. The auto A/C, rear A/C, memory seats and mirrors, CD changer in the console, trip computer, auto door locks and other luxury-car-type amenities are great in a big truck ( and that is really why I bought it). Though it drives much more nimbly than you would ever guess. Much better than the original Tahoe. It is also really smooth and quiet. A great value over the competition, though some cost much more and some less.

Strength:

I like big SUVs and big motors this one has both. All black. NAV system is great.

Weakness:

Well I have to say I have NEVER been more let down and dissapointed by a product. The motor has some kind of bug that wont go away. NOT good on gas but of course its a huge SUV. Picked it up 2 weeks ago and have drove it 3 times 48 mi. total. When it is parked hot and then try to restart it just clicks and then a smoke type smell. Dealer hasnt figured it out yet but they are trying.

$52000 - It should be ready soon hopefully, but until then I will NOT recomend it. I want 50k worth of SUV. NOT a happy camper to say the least. Although this probably would only happen to me.

Strength:

The first impression I got when I first entered the NAvigator was -- WOW, what roominess! I am over 6 feet 4 inches all with a large build, and I could probrably drive my nav wearing a cowboy hat! The interior feels very luxurious. The fact that it has a trip computer and compass helped me decide against the LX 470 (plus the LX feels cramped). The nav drives really smooth, the 300 horses give you good "ooomph" when you need it. Watch that speedometer though, you can be doing 90mph in this yacht and not feel it at all. Backing up into tight parking spaces is easy thanks to the large side mirrors. Squeezing into a standard 2 car guarage is not a problem with the nav -- watch your mirors though. I chose the 2nd row bench instead of the captains chairs.. I think the bench is VERY comfortable. If you want a shoulder rest just pull down the center portion of the bench (it has cupholders, too!). The carpeting feels thick and lush inside the cabin. My dealer installed wood trim throught the front and overhead console for "no charge". It looks great! It makes the interior seem much richer and luxurious. Ask your dealer about installing it.. you can do it yourself but you're stuck with any mistakes you make in installation.

Weakness:

I cannot think of ONE. I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping the Nav holds up well over my 36 month lease.

I HIGHLY recommend that you test drive the Lincoln Navigator before you decide on an SUV. The roominess is second to none and the luxury amenities are great. I also highly recommend you get the authentic wood dash and console kit installed. Although opinions will vary, I also love the Nav's ride and handeling -- smooth and "glide-like". Lincoln also offers a great bumper to bumper warranty in case something goes wrong. I haven't gone in for 1st service yet so I can't comment on that side of the Lincoln experience yet. Any other Nav owners with stories to tell (good and bad) please email me or check out edmunds.com Navigator topic in the town hall. Happy driving!

Ford explorer (no comparison here -- different class/size alltogether), Lexus LX 470: The lexus rides really smooth and the interior materials look/feel great. BUT!!! THe LX 470 felt cramped to me. The back two rows are tight in both hip/shoulder room and headroom. The 2000 LX doesn't have a trip computer, compass, or navigation system opition (check 2001's I think they're becoming available as options). Also, the LX 470 costs 15-20K MORE than the nav... some will argue that the Lexus "experience" is worth the cost... I own an ES 300 and the "experience" while good, doesn't blow me away to the tune of 15K.

Strength:

I just had the Navigator for about 2 weeks and let me say it is the nicest SUV you can own. I enjoy the ice cold air when I get in the vehicle. The great ride makes me feel like a king. All the guages are very user friendly. The room in the first 2 rows is excellent.

Weakness:

It does seem to handle well around corners. Of course every SUV does not. I threw some 20"s on those wheels and it seems better

I paid 38k will all the options. If you buy a black one with crome wheels warning don't do this if you don't want attention!!! This is the best car I have ever owned and I have had expensive cars. If you buy one you will live in it trust me!
