Strength:

V8. Torque. Off-road capabilities. On-road handling. Quiet cabin. Comfy seats all around. Nice steering column. Awesome view(both driver and passengers). Roomy interior. Styling. 12-speaker Alpine stereo system w/ 6disc changer. Basically, the interior is plush!!! Solid ride. All SE/SE7 model''s are pretty much fully loaded. Price.

Weakness:

Gas mileage but that''s expected and is competitive with every V6 out there. Stiff ride but more than bareable. Loose gas pedal. Barely fits in my garage(can''t park in garage if I have ski racks). Factory safety recall within a month of purchase(took less than a day to fix). Needs more horsepower. Rear cargo not wide enough to fit golf bag(has to be diagonal). No GPS/DVD option available in the US yet. Weak subwoofer(too small to produce sufficient bass). CD changer is hard to access. Could use couple more gauges. These aren''t really weaknesses, just personal pickyness.

So far, I am very satisfied with my Disco II. I will have to admit that I was a bit worried about buying a Land Rover because of hearing owners talk about having lot of problems. I think having BMW redesign the Disco was a huge factor for me in buying this off-road beast. I''ve done countless hours of research for the perfect SUV for around $40K and the Disco II stuck out like a sore thumb. You just can''t find a better import SUV unless you go with Japanese but they all seem to slowly fall apart after you take it off-road the first time. Land Rover has definitely refined every aspect of this truck though it could use more horsepower for on-road driving. Both the interior and exterior is much more than what I''ve expected for a $40K SUV. The stock 18inch rims are gorgeous and the styling turns head. The stereo is above average but could use a Bazooka tube. ACE is an amazing feature. My Disco handles better than my Mercedes sedan which you wouldn''t expect from a tall truck. I''ve read other''s reviews on how they dislike their LR service department, but I would have to say my dealership offers superior customer service. It''s even better than Mercedes-Benz. They cater to all your needs, maybe because it''s under warranty. All you have to do is ask! If you want a SUV that not everyone and their moms own, buy a Land Rover.

Strength:

Interior headroom, visibility, traction control, braking system. Great dealer service so far. Winter package is a real plus here in Maine.

Weakness:

The very peculiar cup holder. Rear seat access is a little iffy for some. I wish that foglights came as standard equipment even on the basic model.

I love this truck...wish I''d bought one sooner, although I definitely prefer the Disco II to my husband''s 98 Disco I: it handles better overall. While the mileage isn''t any great shakes (exactly 17.5 mi/gal highway, as advertised), it goes everywhere and anywhere I want it to...through snowdrifts, on icy roads, through the woods. It''s reasonably comfortable for an hour commute to work, and I know for certain I''ll get there! It feels very solid and safe, which was a primary consideration, and is fun to drive to boot. It''s not my BMW 325, but I didn''t expect it to be a sportscar. I got a great deal by buying a dealer''s model with 10,000 miles on it..got extended warranty and a good price break.

Strength:

Low end torque, off-road capabilities, decent gas mileage for a V8, lot''s of room, alluminum body (Not as top-heavy as the un-educated think!) -- Will out-climb any 4x4 I''ve been in!!

Weakness:

Leaky hoses.

So far, my disco has been great!! True, it does feel somewhat heavy and it''s not as zippy as others on the market. But, if your looking for roaring torque in a machine that climbs like a goat, the rover is second to nobody...

ANY YOU CAN THINK OF

WOW WHAT A TOTAL LACK OF MIS-REPRESENTATION. THIS IS THE BIGGEST PEICE OF **** I EVER SPENT MY MONEY ON. THE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE ONCE THE WARRANTY GOES OUT IS COMICAL. IT IS LIKE THE DEALERSHIP DOES A DOCTOR JECKEL/MR HYDE AND ACT THAT THEY HAVE NEVER MET YOU PREVIOUSLY. THE SERVICE TECHS ARE THE MOST IDIOTIC TECHS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. IF THEY ARE NOT PROPERLY TRAINED REGARDING THEIR PRODUCT THEN HOW CAN I FEEL SAFE ON THE PUBLIC ROADS!!!!! LAND ROVER SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN BY THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU IMMEDIATLEY. THIS PILE OF JUNK HAS BEEN LEAKING ITS WHOLE LIFE AND THE VALVE GASKETS AND RADIATOR NEEDED REPLACED AFTER A 500 MILE TRIP. THIS WAS WHEN IT HAD 12000 ON IT. THE F****** THING SQEAKS AND RATTLES AND THE INTERIOR IS BEGINNING TO FALL APART. THE COIN TRAY IS JAMMED AND THE RADIO CONROLS ON THE WHEEL IS NOT WORKING. I HAVE BEEN SO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS CRAP, THAT I AM THINKING OF SUING LRNM FOR MISREPESENTATION AND FRAUD!!!!!!!

If you live in the middle of the corn field - the best choice for you.

Weakness:

Just because British paying 1/2 of wages taxes doesnt mean I am going to overpay 1/2 of the price of a car and 80% parts.

I dont have Discovery - my friend does and it seems like it is a MOST useless truck ever, for ability to drive off road well you will have to deal with thousands of big and small problems, but no matter how big is the problem - it is always expensive as hell. So if you are really looking for a truck to waist money for and take it off road once a month - this car is for you. But to all of you Discovery lovers - why is this truck goes from 40K to 20K in JUST TO YEARS with almost no mileage??????????????? Just like American junk???????? Go to yahoo! it is hundreds of them there for half price barely used????? Good investment, ah?

Except for the mechnical failures the car is nice.

Weakness:

Leaking oil through side of the block. Roof Leaks water when it rains around the windshield.

Poorly engineered product. In a two month period the car has been in for significant oil leaks resulting from a pourus block. The entire short block is being replaced on a brand new car. They refuse to replace the car. The windshield leaks water when it rains.

Strength:

4 wheel ABS disc brakes - excellent for slippery conditions. Center locking differential - great for those tough spots when off roading. Style - there is nothing like it on the road. The dual sunroofs, does anybody else any offer this option? Solid axle, 4 coil spring suspension - very smooth on and off road durability - the vehicles have a great reputation for longevity (I have ~100K mi. and no major problems, just routine maintenance) It can handle obstacles bigger than the potholes, speedbumps, and the occasional curb that most SUV''s see these days.

Weakness:

Gas mileage - 14mpg town, and 17mpg highway Power - most of the time not an issue, but would like more for the mountain passes of Colorado, or the occasional towing. Competitors V-8''s offer much more BHP. Parts and service usually runs higher than domestic vehicles Tire size - 235/70/R16 these are hard to find and only about a 29" tire. The fender openings don''t allow for much larger. It would be nice to be able to fit at least 31" and maybe some 33" tires.

Owning a Land Rover is addictive. It is a great vehicle. It drives well on road, I have put 50k miles on it in about 3.5 years and it is very comfortable for long trips and highway driving. The Disco really excells with its amazing off road capabilities. I have driven 70mph down wash- boarded county roads and it just handles great. Other 4 wheels drives shake your teeth out. Other 4 wheel drives can''t touch its capability. It has got me in and out of places most people won''t try. The vehicle can be easily maintained by yourself and there is a good supply of aftermarket parts and accessories("how to" books also). It works well as the urban grocery getter, but unfortunate that most people will never truly benefit from the off roading in these vehicles.

Cargo space / headroom; visibility; off-road ability; styling; uniqueness

Weakness:

High center of gravity (duh -- it''s a truck!), SOME have maintenance issues.

Do your homework, look at the others out there in the price range, and then get a Rover! These things are TANKS -- get behind the wheel and just feel how solid the truck is...you''ll be glad you got it. I''ve had some maintenance issues, but nothing major -- a bad switch is all I''ve really had go wrong. These really are "The Best 4x4xFar"!

Strength:

I don''t know maybe it me.I just love this thing.

Weakness:

Steering is light for lots of freeway travel. Demands attention at high speeds. Cup holders couldn''t hold a urine sample.

From the top a good experience. The interior quality is high. The refinements are simple but classic. The stereo system is better than what I have ay home. Off road is now an option-the car handles very well. Plenty of power-don''t agree with some of the reviews I have read. Nothing has gone wrong in a year. Nothing. The breaks squeak a bit-but performance does not appear to be effected. The dealership is actually great. Love the style. Lots of cargo room. Lots of light. Lots of headroom. Views all around. Strong built. The daily beating from the kids seems to have no effect on the interior. Feels safe for the family. Good value. See comparisons to the Lexus/Toyota/BMW''s at 20 k more. Seems irrelevant.

Strength:

Just feels great to drive. Doesn''t have the blandness of the other 4wds. The "Landrover Experience" has been a great one. Heaps of storage space. Abundant pockets for storage of maps etc. Air-suspension handy for the long rear overhang when off road. Seats fold down easily for extra room. Cargo blind good for security.ACE makes the car handle superbly for such a tall vehicle. Very reliable so far (touch wood**). I think I got lucky judging by some of the other comments.

Weakness:

For on road I always leave the car in the sports mode or else it changes down too quickly for my liking. I often find myself manually holding it back a gear for improved acceleration. But I''m a bit of a leadfoot. Off road I use the manual mode which is excellent. The paint scratches pretty easily, but the scratches buff out with a bit of polish. No individual map lights. Traction control cuts in too early.

Having a great time in my new Discovery ES. The leather clad seats are really comfortable - and the armrests feel really decadent. The driving position is sensational. ACE makes the car corner like it''s on rails. I opted for the standard 16 inch (instead of 18inch) rims and the car still handles really well. The extra rubber is a bonus off road, especially if you have to let air out to get extra traction. Also, those shiny alloys won''t scratch so easily. I love the interior. Feels very light and airy with the light colored interior and large windows. Air conditioning is powerful. Has rear air conditioning also which is a nice touch. The ES model has 7 seats - I pulled out the rear 2 for the extra luggage space. The sound system is sharp and clear. Don''t need a lot of volume to hear the sound clearly at high speeds. The controls for the stereo and cruise control are on the steering wheel which is very convenient. Very capable off road, though in slippery conditions the traction control is overactive. And in deep mud holes the traction control does not always stop the wheels from spinning. I''d consider fitting a rear diff lock if planning serious off road trips. My fuel consumption is consistent with everyone else''s so I''m not unhappy. I test drove the turbo diesel as well before I bought this car - was underpowered and noisy like hell when accelerating -but goes through much less fuel. I suspect the V8 will be better off road because of the low RPM torque. But I''ll be carrying some extra jerry cans of fuel because 500 k''s doesn''t get you very far off road before you need to get back to a town to refill.

Couldn''t stomach the others - were either too Boring or too crappy off road. The Disco is the perfect blend.
