Strength:
easy to work on, vast amount of suppliers for any mod you want, chicks like it
Weakness:
Does not get along too good with deep mud holes. I've had many cars and trucks and this is the best all around vehicle. I recommend a Jeep to anyone with a sense of adventure. I strongly encourage someone that wants to lower and chrome out a "legend" to look elsewhere maybe a tracker or something along those lines. Similar Products Used: None |

The 4.0L I6 is a great engine. Stick to the Dana 44 on 98' + models. The versitility of tops is great, you would be suprised the number of aftermarket top options available. Nothing beats the feeling of putting it into 4LO and crawling.
Weakness:
If you plan on lift/tires, the Dana 35c axle has to go. In some cases of extremely large tires, the front 30 will need replacement. The AX-5 Tranny is weak, but only comes behind the 2.5L four popper. Go for the Inline Six if at all possible. It is a fun, go anywhere vehicle. For any potential buyers - Go for it!!! This is by far the best vehicle that I have ever owned. It is great for hitting the trails on the weekends, and for taking to work during the week. Before buying, I suggest accumulating catalogues from several aftermarket Jeep companies. Take a look at what is available and whether or not you can make YOUR Jeep into the vehicle that you want. JEEP - There is no substitute. Similar Products Used: There are no substitutes. I have never, and do not plan on ever driving some Kia POS. Bottom line. |

unparalled off-raod ability. fun to drive. great engine. reliable.
Weakness:
gas mileage, but that's to be expected. have loved every minute of owning my Jeep. i've had my share of problems, but i bought used and was too hasty in my decision. not a reflection on Jeep as a whole. up until DCX brought out the pathetic monstosity that is the Liberty (KJ) i would have tried to convert anybody i talked to into one of the Jeep models. things may change now that DCX no longer cares about the Jeep legend or it's enthusiasts. Strength:
Convertible, 4 wheel drive, strong 6 cylinder, 91 Sahara color, stares from people not driving vehicle that they really want.
Weakness:
Impossible to get grease gun on some u-joint fittings. Lack of side mirrors when doors removed. My CJ-7 owning brother would say the square headlights are an issue. Purchased with only 63,000 miles and have only put 6,000 on since then. A great 'extra' vehicle. My two year old son and dog love it. No problems to report and everything has been leak free. Great Ride. Great Handling. Especially in Western Pennsylvania, the home of ORANGE BARRELS (constant construction). This vehicle rides over all the road imperfections with ease. It is just a blast to drive.
Weakness:
4 cylinder is a bit weak. I'd like to thank a former post that said that you should baby this engine right through the BREAK-IN period. I don't take it easy now and the engine & tranny are running great. This is a great vehicle if you can put up with some minor annoyances. Wind, especially with the top down can cause quite a drag on this vehicle. I have the soft top and its really not as noisy as so many people say it is. Similar Products Used: None |

Its a Jeep. Very reliable 4.0l I-6. Have gotten over 200k miles out of the last 2 jeeps i have had, which never once let me down. Very great off road. You cant beat the articulation for the price! trail ready right out of the box.
Weakness:
Soft top on the 2000 models is louder than the new sail cloth 2001 models. i will have one of these tops by the end of the week:). Great Jeep! Super fun. very reliable. Similar Products Used: Outperforms any other 4x4 on the market at the same price. |

Top is a little troublesome and the gas mileage is horrible Well what can I say...this is my Sport, and I love it. I'm a junior in High School, and there are few better cars for a teenager in my mind. I know that if I was let loose in a new Lighting or Z28 my license would have long since left me in a glorious cloud of tire smoke and premium gasoline. The Jeep actually had the unexpected result of reducing my aggresive driving, as well as slowing me down a bit. Be it the fact Jeeps try to become airborne at Highway speed or the capable but still reserved 4.0 I-6, the slow drivers and woodland creatures of Grosse Pointe are now safer. My Jeep has the 30 Inch Tire and Wheel group with Trac-Lok, Tow Hooks, and a general "My Jeep will kick your Tracker's ..." attitude. I also think it sits higher than other Wranglers due to this setup. It has a CD Player with the Subwoofer option, and an Automatic. If you know what you're doing, the top takes less than 4 minutes to put up or down. That's not too bad in my book, and while it doesn't quite compare to the 10 second power top of our 2000 BMW Z3, it is a labor of love, and if you don't like it, opt for the Hard Top and crank down your windows. Anybody who uses boats or jet-skis as well as their appropriate covers can relate to the snapping and zipping involved. She can take speed bumps with the best of them, remind "cute-ute" drivers of their place in life, as well as boost the ego of whoever commands the brute (can you tell?). If I weren't such a suburbanite, I would have tested out all she can do in the muck already, but as is I've romped around in some very muddy construction areas, and found the Jeep to be more than capable. As much as I'm looking forward to top down cruising, I can't wait to pass the Excursions and Suburbans stuck in the snow come winter. This is an SUV, and all of you 4x4 bus owners need to bow down, or at least drop the cell phones. My only gripes are that 1.) It is impossible to keep clean for very long, as any puddle at all seems to go directly from the ground to the side panels...and 2.) The gas mileage is quite bad. Jeep claims 15-18 for my Automatic, and I'm yet to break 13, though I haven't been driving it for too long. It attracts attention when the top is down, and summons the admiration of any teenager cruising Escort style. She's big, bad, and spartan...but who needs leather when you've got ambition to be a Tank? If you love your teenager, and can afford it, pick up a Wrangler. If you're an adult, and need a fun and cheap addition to your life, you should look into one as well. Well, that's all for now...I'll post an update if anything goes South Similar Products Used: Beats the 97 Saturn SC2 it replaced in every area with the exception of the gas consumption. On par with other SUV's i've driven; including a 99 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer, and Jeep Cherokee. A close second to the 98 Hummer in ability to run over Curbs and Geos. |
