Strength:
Convertible: Driving this car on sunny days is a pleasure. The stock CD/sub is a decent combination and sounds good at low speeds, like cruising around town. The car is comfortable; the ride is a little bumpy/shaky but that''s OK, it''s not something that will drive you crazy with time. Actually, on smooth surfaces it rides like any other car. STABILITY: This Jeep DOES NOT flip on turns, this is a misconception. I have bombed around corners at really high speeds and this thing is pretty stable. I also have no problems with stability on highways unless it''s really windy, in which case you''re best not exceeding 60-65 mph. ENGINE IS PEPPY: The engine, although weak on highways, is REALLY peppy/torquey and is well-suited to city driving. IF you''re going to drive mainly in the city, the 4-cylinder is a decent choice, but only in stickshift. Don''t get the automatic 4-cyl, it''s a dog. FUEL ECONOMY: I get around 400 km to the tank (about 55 liters) of pure stop-and-go in the city. That''s not bad, because that''s with the car NEW and the engine not broken in yet. My Cavalier Z24 used to get 200 km on 55 Liters brand new, and after three years it doubled to 400 km on a tank.
Weakness:
ENGINE: the four-cylinder is too weak for some, although if you''re on a tight budget and you can drive stick, the four is GREAT. If you keep the engine revving and happy, the four flies. But for those who want less noise and more grunt, you have to go with the six. The engine is also too noisy. It sounds like a small diesel truck sometimes, depending on the surrounding buildings. When you''re moving along on streets it''s not bad at all, but sometimes you really notice it. FIT and FINISH: Overall not bad at all, but there are a few squeaks here and there. Expect the front passenger seat to jiggle and squeak a bit when it''s empty, and you''ll probably get dashboard creaks within the first five months. Overall nothing serious. Maybe some paint irregularities on the inside (the paint continues on the inside A pilars) but who cares? This thing has so many pluses, if you get stuck on a creak or two this isn''t for you. Overall an excellent SUV; this thing is a BLAST to own and drive, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. Probably the most impressive thing about it is that it will surprise you with how decent and comfy the ride is. Very capable as a car/SUV/whatever and actually makes a great daily driver. Contrary to what most people say, this does NOT need to be a second car or hobby car. (As a 4-cylinder) it''s got good gas mileage, not anywhere near as bad as most people say. Comfortable, a BLAST on both hot sunny days and in extremely bad weather. Similar Products Used: I''ve had an old Buick in the past, a Cavalier Z24 (good first car), and drive my father''s Audi every summer. This is (overall) better than all of them. It''s obviously not as smooth as the Audi or e |

Strong and stable as an army mule....take out the back seat and you have good amount of storage space. Being able to look at any obstacle and think "Oh yeah, I can handle that". Being able to drive through the mountains at night in June with the top down but have a hard top six month later in those same mountains.
Weakness:
Have 5,000 so far and not a sign of a problem yet. I will say that i would like to visit my gas station a little less often. I have never been a car guy, never really understood why people had such love affairs with vehicles. Come on, its just a tool to get you from point A to point B. At least thats what I thought till I purchased a Jeep. When you climb up into that bad boy for the first time, turn the ignition and feel that engine purr.....my friends that is magic. Being an avid fisherman I found myself unable to utilize some of the more remote mountain lakes, not anymore. I am going on trails that pathetic little toyotas and fords dare not thread. Although not a fst vehicle, I have never lost power going up a hill (I have the 4.0 liter). Switching from soft top to hard makes it seem like I have a new car every 6 months. I could go on and on...suffice it to say I love my jeep. When I''m in it, I look for trails to take me on adventures. When I''m not in it, I''m figuring how to tinker with it (K&N Air Filters RULE). And for all the nay sayers out there.....HEY, IT''S A JEEP THING....YOU WON"T GET IT! Strength:
Excellent quality so far. Flawless mechanical operation. Workhorse 4-cylinder motor is simple to work on, and seems durable so far. Decent power for around town. Convertible top is way cool! It''s a Jeep! Small size makes it easy to get into tight spots off-road. Low range transfer case gives plenty of torque, I pulled a full size Chevy (2 wheel drive) truck out of the sand on the beach a week ago! TJ coil spring suspension is outstanding, with much improved ride quality on and off road, and plenty of suspension flex, which helps keeps the wheels on the ground off-road. A 2 inch lift is very simple. Stand apart styling, unmistakably Jeep. Every off-road aftermarket part known to man is available for this baby.
Weakness:
Definately NOT the most practical family vehicle. Little interior storage space. (Had to put up a roof rack on mine, I travel with a lot of gear sometimes.) 4-cylinder motor is weak on the interstate. Top speed so far had been 80, and that was pedal to the metal and downhill. Seems to max out at around 65 to 70 on level ground, with NO passing ability at that speed. Fuel economy has been biggest dissapointment so far, averaging about 14 MPG on a 1000 mile highway round trip. I am sure this is due to the wind resistance, after all, it has to look like a Jeep first, aero-dynamics are secondary. I have gotten better milage around town. (I also get around 11 MPG highway with my full-size Wagoneers, with big V-8 motors!) Soft top is noisy at highway speeds. Overall for around town driving and off-roading it is excellent, nothing compares to a Jeep for off-roading, and the price can''t be beat for a SUV. So far, the only thing that has gone wrong is the passenger seat adjuster broke, which of course was repaired under warranty. It has been otherwise trouble free, and I have over 9000 miles on it, with tons of offroading, and one 1000 mile highway round trip under it''s belt. Flawless mechanical operation so far. Much better ride quality than the CJ. (I used to own a CJ-7, and currently own 3 Wagoneers and this Wrangler.) And very capable off-roader right out of the box. Soft top is much improved, and easy to take down and put up compared to older Jeeps, but still noisy at high speed. The sail-cloth top on the 2001 model is supposed to be much quieter. Air conditioning is pretty decent, even with the soft top and the daily 100+ temps here in the summer. I have gotten spoiled by shift-on-the-fly 4 wheel drive!! No hubs to get out and lock! Strength:
Engine has lots of power at low speeds, very manouverable, a lot of fun to drive, very good suspension, removable top, the best four-wheel drive known to man, very good price
Weakness:
doesn''t go very fast, especially up inclines, low gas mileage, little storage space, bumpy ride (suspension designed for power, not comfort) soft top is not very secure and is noisy at high speeds I''ve only had the jeep for a few weeks, but so far, I''m very happy with it. The soft top is great for the desert, it doesn''t rain very much so I don''t care if it leaks. You should take into account the climate when deciding what kind of top to get-if you live in an area with extreme weather, pay the extra and get the hard top. The lockable truck space should be required for anyone with soft top, it''s the only secure area on such a jeep, but it''s very small, so don''t think you''re going to fit much in it. The sport engine has a tremendous amount of power at low speeds, but if you have to do any serious speed up an incline, forget it. I took mine up into the mountains and couldn''t go faster than 55 up a steep grade. Do invest in bigger tires if you want to go off-road, you''ll be grateful for the additional clearance and it will enhance the jeeps manouverability. Although you can take the rumble seat out, this still doesn''t leave you with very much storage space. If you live alone and like to go camping by yourself or with one other person, this is not a problem, but if you do anything that requires lots of gear you might want to reconsider. My own jeep hasn''t given me any problems yet, but I''ve heard many horror stories from jeep owners with lemons. Buy the Extended warranty! Even if your jeep turns out to be fine, it''s a great value. Similar Products Used: This is my first automobile. |

the overall vehicle so far and 21000 miles
Weakness:
Power of the 2.5 going up steeper inclines and getting only 215 miles to the tank of gas. I love my Jeep. My buddy has a 94 and my 98''s top is so much easier to deal with. It is a blast to drive it. Haven''t have any probs with it. Run it with synthetic oil and bosch platinum plugs. Mileage and power are only drawbacks. Similar Products Used: 95 Toyota sr5 pick-up |

Strength:
Ground clearance(especially with lift kit), turning radius, great for 4 wheeling, gets good gas mileage considering lift kit and huge tires that are on it.
Weakness:
Ummm........high insurance maybe? I would not trade my Jeep for anything in the world. It has got to be one of the most fun vehicles to drive. I have had no problems with mine and don't foresee any happening either then again who does? It's great for whatever you want to do. Whether you're young and go mudding, or if you just want to be able to take the top off and criuse through town. And how many people can say that they have a 4wd convertable? I can't think of any reasons why someone wouldn't want a Jeep I mean you can do anything with it so anyone who says that wouldn't want one is really just jealous of yours. I don't sound too opinionated do I? Similar Products Used: None |
