Strength:

Driving position; engine power; Jeep reputation; ride quality. The so-called professional testers who have complained about the ride being too harsh don't know what they're talking about.

Weakness:

Don't like the power window controls on the center console; move them to the doors where they belong. The glove box is so small that the owner's manual won't fit inside-totally inexcusable for a car in this price class.

We wanted a small SUV to get through the rugged winters we have in Nebraska. We looked at the Saturn Vue and Ford Escape in addition to the Liberty. We actually liked the Escape more than the Liberty but exceptionally generous buyer incentives from Daimler Chrysler made the purchase of the Jeep a no brainer.

Similar Products Used:

Ford Escape-better driving position & ergonomically superior to the Liberty. Saturn Vue-Competent vehicle but not as good as Escape or Liberty.

Strength:

Good visibility, turns on a dime, handles like a champ, a ton of headroom and leg room (and we're not small people at all).

Weakness:

Small glove compartment, no handle for back glass, the center window controls take a little getting used to.

This vehicle suits our needs perfectly. I haven't experienced any of the problems posted, but I've only had the vehicle a few weeks. The visiblity is great, it doesn't have a 'top heavy' feel to it and I don't mind the gas mileage (I read the sticker on the windshield). Have taken it a little off road with no problems at all. Had an aftermarket hitch installed for towing and am very pleased with the towing abilities. I do wish there was a handle on the back glass (I don't like getting smudges all over it when closing it) and the glove compartment could be a little bigger. Overall I like the vehicle but I went into the deal with my eyes wide open. This is not a car for everybody.

Strength:

High comfortable seating position;strong V6 and smooth A/T;smart interior layout and good visability out of lots of glass;good tight turning radius;excellent sounding standard radio.

Weakness:

Glovebox could have been a little more generous;NO other complaints in the five weeks I've had the car.

The Liberty is a very comfortable riding vehicle.I was somewhat concerned after reading comments that when you're on road, the ride is quite harsh.I drive only on road, and I am satisfied with the solid, secure, smooth but firm ride I get.The V6,3.7L is strong, and automatic tranny shifts very smoothly.I feel that I paid a fair price on a high quality vehicle.I can't believe that I bought my first American car in about twenty years, but reading lots of high praise on the Jeep Liberty and test driving it a couple of times, sold me on it.

Strength:

versatile on or off road adequate pricing 4 doors(2 babies to load in & out)

Weakness:

Limited edition has funky color combos (interior) which jeep is good at putting together.

This thing is exactly what I expected it to be. It has: more room than my wranglers, a good engine/transmission combo(auto), great paint, nice interior, good visibility, heat, adequate gas mileage, excellect traction in 2 or 4, good off road capabilities compared to the wrangler and excellent compared to most other daily drivers, very good headroom/legroom(I'm 6'4" and have 3 or 4 inches to spare, tons(literally) of towing power, fairly quiet interior noise levels, great view of gauges/speedometer and probably more that I'll discover in months to come.

Weakness:

Cubby hole space. I love my cubby holes! Accessories are expensive.

I love my new Jeep. The heater rocks. The 4 wheel is awesome. The leg room and head space is wonderful. And I do not find the gas mileage to be so bad. It gets better milage than my Stratus and is much more roomy. The ride is much smoother than I expected and she will turn on a dime. Overall, I am tickled pink!!!! It is the Jeep Wrangler for the soccer mom!

Transmission breaks reguarly

I have had nothing but trouble with my Liberty! The first problem came only 8 days after buying it. It was the sylenoid in the tranmission. Then a few months later, it was back to the dealership with the same problem, only this time the entire automatic transmission had to be replaced. A few month's later and you guessed it, the sylenoid in the new transmission went bad. It has been 4 months since then and guess what? the sylenoid in the transmission is bad again. Am trying to get a buy back - anyone who has any info on buy backs, or similar problems with their Liberty, please email me at WVKItten2@aol.com

Strength:

Looks Off-road capability

Weakness:

Way too heavy Stiff/bouncy ride Dismal gas milage Cramped interior Pricy for what you get Typical American quality

My brother bought this vehicle last year and I had the chance to take it on several road trips with him. We shared the driving so I probably have about 1000 miles behind the wheel and 1500 in the passenger seat. The Liberty is a nice looking vehicle. The wheel flares and aggressive stance give it a nice presence on the road. My brother never goes off road but I borrowed it once and snuck off to my favorite trail. Its off-road capabilities are pretty impressive for a stock vehicle (but still no match for my slightly modified Trooper). However, overall I would not recommend this vehicle for several reasons. First the vehicle is heavy. Its heavier than most of the SUVs out there. So heavy that even the 3.7L V6 feels sluggish. Handling is slow with a lot of understeer when pushed to the limits. The weight also wreaks havoc on the gas mileage. We average about 16mpg on the highway and 12mpg in the city. Those are dismal numbers for such a small SUV. Heck that’s worse than most large SUVs. Second, interior space is tight. The area for your legs in the front seats is too narrow and the rear seat back to short. Cargo space is just barely enough for 2 people’s luggage. The thick “A” pillars block the forward view somewhat but otherwise it has ok visibility. Also, the ride is too stiff and bouncy for long distance traveling. The Liberty is for a good vehicle for a couple or a small family that needs a capable off-roader and doesn’t mind the heavy handling, stiff ride and dismal gas mileage. Everyone else would do better with one if its competitors.
