Strength:
Good for long trips. good for snow (AWD)
Weakness:
Extremely underpowered V6 a real dog.(get the V8 it is worth it) Slotting on brake rotors, catchy braking. Gas Mileage. weak stereo system get the infinity This car is alright snow but horrible when trying to get up hills. gas mileage is horrible even on the highway. Mine has a front stabilizer shock problem so it handls horribly in the snow but other people's handle better than mine so it is probably just my car. the interior is comfortable and the seats are great for long drives. Mine has 200,000 miles on it and it is still going strong. |

Strength:
Comfort, realibility, roadability , brakes, gas milage, ease of personal maintenance. Brake rotors and caliper replace once at 120,000. No engine, tranny or driveline problems.
Weakness:
Squeak in drivers side door hinges from day one never been able to stop it. Vibration at idle with brakes on, handbook says this is normal and it has been for me. Crankcase vent system using a meterd vacccum system is inadequate to vent crankcase gases, causes oil to vent from the dipstick tube, fixed by installing a larger vent hose and a air oil seperator. Purchased new in 93, currently has 124,000 maintenance free miles. We have been very pleased with this GC. I have just started looking to purchase another GC, but this board has me wondering if Jeep has recently started making junk. The brake rotor problem is really scary. The local dealer (Goodwin of Sumter SC) is wonderful, but you folks are reporting that Jeep is not supporting the dealers. Similar Products Used: Several 1/2 ton pick-up-trucks. |

Listed above. Gas is horrible, dependability horrible, Chrysler reputation I guess My husband and I are luckily able to buy our children cars when they turn 17. We decided to go out and look at the vehicles and the Grand Cherokee was reputable and safe according to some statistics. So we ended up with the Grand Cherokee Laredo 04 4x4. It is a nice vehicle for the outside and inside, but OH MY!!!! were we wrong? Yes! Things just started to go wrong. Our son was on the interstate and broke down, at a traffic light nearby, brokedown, and was at school and had this problem with it stalling. It is horrible! So I called up the dealership and they stated its "the new car" thing! YIKES!!! We have never had this happen with our BMW's..so it was a shock with a brand new vehicle! We actually traded the vehicle right back in at a decent price and purchased a 2003 leftover Nissan Pathfinder SE..great car so far--crossing fingers!!!! transmission, modules, sensors, brakes, uncomfortable seats. I am very disappointed in my Jeep. It ran fine for the first 5 months after that, It started running rough. It did not have any pickup, I returned to the dealer and they said it was a sensor in the transmission. I got that fixed just out of waranty. The next problem was the Keyless entry. I went back to the dealer after it had left me stranded. It needed a new module and the keys reprogrammed. Now I am waiting for the next axe to fall. I am sure that will be the brakes since i have complained about them often. I had always heard good things about the jeep product from some of my friends. So when my wonderfull Honda was totaled I went to a Jeep. Big mistake! The interior is already looking bad. It is a cheap made vehicle for a big price. I am considering letting my dog use it for a dog house and buying another reliable Honda. Similar Products Used: I have never owned a SUV before. I have had a Z71 extended cab Chevrolet. |

Grand Cherokee Overland
Strength:
QuadraDrive 4 wheel system very good interior ergonomics Fit and finish
Weakness:
Should have the HID headlights available as an option. My family had always had great luck with the Jeep brand. This purchase is our 6 Jeep vehicle(91,92 wranglers,98 cherokee, 2001 grand cherokee laredo, 2002 liberty and 2004 Overland). All of them very easy to maintain and had no major mechanical problems except for the normal maintenance. So when I finally can afford to buy a car in the $40 grand range, I traded the 91 wrangler and got the 2004 Grand Cherokee Overland. So far I've been very happy. Ergonamically, I feel the interior of the Grand Cherokee Overland is tastefully done. It's very functional with just the right amount of luxury appointments. Fit and Finish are good and I feel comparable to the other foreign made vehicle in that price range. I bought the car in NJ and drove it back to Chicago were I'm currently working. During the drive, I had to go through some rainy weather from PA all the way to Indiana. And this is where the Grand Cherokee shines with the QuadraDrive system. The car felt sure footed and I was able to continue driving in the 70 to 80+ mph. The car felt stable. Since I only have the car for 2 weeks I can't comment on this vehicle's reliability. But if it is anything like our other Jeep vehicles I have no worries. I feel that with regular oil change and maintenance this car should last me at least 10 years hassle free. And regular maintenance on the Jeep is not expensive unlike its foreign competitors. Strength:
Excellent value! Mid-size SUV at mini SUV price. Great looking vehicle...inside and out.Very smooth and quiet ride. Strong engine. Very tight turning radius. Very good visibility. Great leather interior. Better than average Infinity sound system.
Weakness:
Rear Cargo area is smaller than some other Mid-size SUV's. History of brake rotor warping problems...hopefully this was fixed for 2004. I have been in the market for a reasonably priced 4WD SUV for over 2 months. I talked with many SUV owners (Jeep, Trailblazer, Explorer, 4Runner, Murano)for honest feedback on their vehicles. Everyone liked their vehicles...but the Jeep owners LOVED their vehicles. So I took a closer look. After researching all the mid-size,under $35k SUV's; I came to the conclusion that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best mid-size SUV value in America. Plus they are giving a $4,000 rebate! What a deal! The Laredo Special Edition looks great, has a beautiful leather interior, awesome 4WD system and a very smooth, quiet ride. It's a great choice if you are looking for a Grand Cherokee with the looks of the Limited without all the "Bells and Whistles". Similar Products Used: Explorer, Murano, Trailblazer |

A lot of stuff! This car is terrible!!!! For the first month I had the car it ran perfectly. Then two months later I started to lose power in the car, this continued until eventually the car just stopped and died in the middle of town. Apparently the fuel pump went out in it. Next the car started to squeal, this was just a belt problem(easy fix). Now the car still cannot make it on the freeway with out losing power and nearly stopping altogether. Another thing is that when I apply brakes at all the whole entire car will shake, I have had the brakes replaced, the tires rotated and yet the car still has this problem. The inside of the car is the only thing I enjoy about it, the radio the wood trim , and the seats are very comfortable. Similar Products Used: Dodge Durango, Chevrolet Tahoe |
