Strength:

V8 4.7L a must. we get 18 Mpg w/lots of city driving. You will get good milage if you ride it gently or else.... Great looks and performance.

Weakness:

After 25k miles started right pull. Dealer said to rotate tires. It seemed to help for about 1k miles and it''s back. Time to take it in.

Great riding SUV; great looks, power, stereo. No major problem but starting to pull right at 25k miles. V-8 is a must and only cost you $1k; we got 2WD and maybe that help to keep reliability issues in check. Lets hope.

Strength:

Rugged good looks, inside and out. Comfortable yet firm suspension. Quality built; rattle-free even on the rough terrain. Unmatched off-road performance. The perfect medium between car and 4x4.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, which is the same as any mid-size SUV. Brake rotors could stand improvement.

What''s all this fuss about? I live in the mountains where snow is common and a reliable four-wheel-drive vehicle is appreciated! I know many people who own and love Jeep Grand Cherokees!! My wife''s new 2001 Laredo is our first "modern" Jeep (I had a 75 CJ-5 years ago) and it''s first 20,000 miles have been trouble free, that is, unless you consider changing the oil and keeping it clean "trouble". In fact, I know at least 8 people who own JGCs from 96 to 00 and the only common problem seems to be the infamous "brake rotor shimmy", which is not a safety issue and is an easy fix. On rough or slippery terrain, only a good riding mule can go where this Jeep can not!

+radiator went after 36,000 miles +passenger and driver side window motor went +auto mirrors never operated correctly + brakes replaced 3 times + constant oil leaks Just a few of the problems I had...

FINALLY got rid of these piece of garbage in May of this year(after owning it 2 years) and went to the Lexus RX 300 which I paid the same amount for as the Jeep...have no problems at all...and after all the problems with the Jeep...a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty was extremely attractive on the Lexus. Please DON''t subje4ct yourself to the 99 Jeep Cherokees...they are a waste.

Weakness:

THE BRAKES ARE THE WORST I HAVE EVER USED. THESE JEEPS NEED THE ROTORS CUT EVERY 7000 MILES AND REPLACED EVERY 12-14,000 MILES. THE DEALER WILL NOT HELP THEY SAY A NEW SET OF ROTORS EVERY 10K IS NORMAL. ALSO THE AC IS WEAK. IT CAN''T BEGIN TO KEEP UP WITH MY OLD EXPLORER OR MY EXPEDITION

THE SUV LOOKS AND RIDES GOOD. FIT AND FINISH AS WELL AS BODY INTEGRITY ARE QUITE GOOD.

Model Reviewed: GC Laredo v-8

Strength:

-style -power/smoothness of the 4.7 v-8 -off road capability of 4x4 system -dealers I have used for service have always been great.

Weakness:

-reliability-reliability-reliability -I wish I had a record of the total time I''ve wasted taking this "new" vehicle in for repairs!

If you are thinking of buying one of these used - run away. I bought mine new because I used to work for Chrysler, loved the new design, and loved the power of the 4.7 v-8. I runs great when it runs. I love the excuse to pass people on the highway. The auto 4x4(quadro drive) works great on the snow. The reliability, however, has been TERRIBLE! It has 30000 miles on it and has had both the front and rear differentials replaced. Transmission kchunks at times when shifting around 20mph. Seals all thoughout the drive train are constantly leaking on the garage floor and being replaced (some seals on the front axle near the wheel and tire are now being replaced for the third time!) This stuff is what you expect out of a 100000 mile vehicle, not a "new" one. The two front window motors went out at about 10000 miles. I never use the back ones or they would probably need replacing too. I had an a/c switch problem at around 9000 and I could go on. I have not seen the rotar problems that others have although the brakes do squeak. When turning, the front differential vibrates as if it doesn''t want to allow enough slipping. Seems excessive to me and the dealer always tells me its normal although it didn''t do it when I was test driving it (and other new ones). I''m now approaching the end of my warranty and I''m terrified. My sister traded her 99 GC Laredo off (after only 20000 miles and the same type of problems) for a Tahoe. They love it. I want to do the same, but can''t afford to take up new payments. Can I really afford to keep it after the warranty runs out?

Weakness:

the only one that I can think of is that The vehicle is Premium fuel only, but even that is just fine by me!!

This is the best Jeep Grand Cherokee ever made this will be my 3rd one and it is the best so far. They took what made a Grand Cherokee a Grand Cherokee and just and just made it to be, well all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I took a look at the all new exploder and I was not impressed at all it sucked!!!

Strength:

Dependability, comfort, seating position, shoulder room. Well thought out controls.

Weakness:

Pitches you sideways on off-camber dips. Spare tire takes up needed room. Deserves a more "macho" stance. Wish Jeep made a bit bigger Grand.

At 93,000 miles my Leredo has been trouble free and enjoyable with the 4 liter I-6 and Select-Trac. The Selec-Trac offers great versatility especially on wet road or partial ice and dry transitions. Good HVAC, decent sound system. Good driving feel. Transmission keeps me a bit nervous, but never a problem. Its reluctant to stretch out 2nd gear and wants to upshift to 3rd quickly. Tranny occassionally feels like it can''t make up its mind...but, again, no repairs ever needed. The 4 liter is bulletproof with OK mikeage. Good fit and finish and car always looks good. Great off road and snow capability. You can "fly" on dirt and rough roads with this thing and it feels controlled and smooth

Strength:

Everything from dual temperature control to heated leather seats to memory seats, mirrors and radio settings for two drivers. The interior is quality made and very comfortable. I also think the exterior is one of the sharper looking SUV''s on the market. The Quadra-Drive four-wheel drive is superb. Good size: not too big for parking spots, but big enough for hauling. Powerful V-8.

Weakness:

Gas, of course. But even so, I averaged a little over 16 mpg for the last 3 months. In-town driving included. Temperature control can be annoying sometimes. The Quadra-Drive requires more frequent tire rotation (recommended every other oil change to save tires), but it''s worth it.

I absolutely love it. It handles great and rides very well for an SUV. We had our first big snowfall this weekend (12 inches) and having my Jeep actually made it enjoyable. The Quada-Drive is amazing! I usually tire of vehicles after a couple years, but I may have to hang on to this one for quite a bit longer. I definitely recommend it!

EVERY THING ELSE!!! total lemon. I have tried and tried to get help from dealers and Chrystler. I have been totally ignored. Any suggestions on what to do!!??

I have had nothing but problems. Lights that flash on randomly(I get the finger all the time now!!)Windows that won''t work(4 replacements).Every electrical problem possible. Quadra Drive that is no longer available still grinds on left hand turns. I love the power and looks. Seat heaters are nice. Overall I am completely dissatisfied. My waranty just ran out with the stereo controls on the stearing wheel not working.(been in the shop to fix but they could find nothing wrong.)I am now looking to trade. I have a baby on the way and WILL NOT risk being left!

Strength:

V8, highway drive, overall visability.

Weakness:

Gas, whining sound (normanl but bothersome), transmission clucky (replaced drive shaft, okay now)

First SUV, drove a mini van before... wow what a step up. Just love this truck. Lot''s of power in the V8, runns as fast as snot out of my son''s nose. The best SUV bar none. The only problems, paint sucked, had to have it re-painted. Transmissionis clucky, had that fixed (drive shaft). Weather stripping around driver door not placed right. But other than a short visit to my Chrysler dealer, the truck is A1. The best part, I was off roading with some friends (okay just driving up a steap incline to his cottage), my buddy got stuck. He drives a Pathfinder. We hooked him up to my Jeep, and away we went... It was the best day of my life.
