Strength:

it has wonderful pickup.. and really moves

Weakness:

none so far

I have always wanted a jeep since in high school.. I bought the lardeo grand cheokee and I am very happy so far have owned a honda crv.. and could not get a as good as I did on this for a v8. I dont know if this is a good car or a bad car time will tell.. but it is big enough to do real estate and haul the doggies around with...better car then a mits galant and better interest rate... I got a better deal here then at the ford dealership in town.. I got mad at the mercury dealer .. and walked out... and this dealer could not lease with my credit but gave me a wonderful deal with leather inside and a wonderful deal with v8.. no 4x4.. but I can live with that.. a bigge car then the mits galant and I dont have to worry about getting sandwich in a small car.. much happier with this one.. would have prefer the 4x4.. thats the only thing I will trade up for and a lease latter on... but not till they give the 7000 back for that.. I got 3500 back for this.. its a great car so far.. or a great truck.. and I need a truck...

Nothing but Strenghts - love the new design and 5 speed auto trans.

Weakness:

Can''t complain about the gas milage any suv gets - what do you expect.

This is my first Grand and I am very happy. My dad has owned 3 and my brother 2, I also own a 98 Wangler that''s great fun and has been no probelm. The 4.7 Grand performs as promised and is an outstanding handling vehicle - I personally wouldn''t give you 2 cents for the Jap alternatives.

Strength:

Tough off road and easy to work on and constantly needs lots of work. Luckily, I am a fair shadetree mechanic.

Weakness:

Noisy, axle seals leak, transfer case has been replaced (dealer said, but don''t believe). Dealer has tried to cheat me a couple of times and I reported them to the BBB. Idler pullies (two) have frozen up a couple of times and that is bad news especially on the highway or back country.

I am somewhat satisfied with the GC I-6 overall. I planned on selling it and getting a new one until I read all of the negative reviews. My GC is worth about $2500 now and since I know it well and know how to work on it, I will keep as my second car. The GC are definitely the best looking SUVs around in that class, but I don''t want to live with the unreliability. Will probabl buy Japanese.

Good Looks, smooth ride and good power.

Weakness:

Rotten resale, unusual amount of maint.

I leased this Jeep new in Dec. of 98. Up until the last year it has easy to maintain. After 40000 miles I have spent over $3000.00 in repairs. I have had the transfer case rebuilt, the left front bearing replaced, repaired a broken drivers seat, and stil need to replace the right front wheel bearing. This would be understandable if I used the car off road but it has always been a city car. I am very disappointed with the resale. I would only recommend purchasing them used with a warranty

Strength:

Good four wheel drive ability. I''ve been four wheeling and never been stuck due to the Jeep not doing it''s job. It is comfortable and an all round good vehicle.

Weakness:

It rolls side to side when off road and has a bit of road noise to it. I believe the road noise has to do with my tires being a little aggresive. Sucks up the gas I get about 13 to 14 miles per gallon. My Jeep has the full time unit and a 6cl with the towing package and up country suspension group.

I have not had any major problems with my Jeep since I''ve had it. I bought it used in 2000. It now has 100,000 miles on it. I''ve driven from Arizona to Florida twice, one of the times I towed another vehicle and had no problems with the 6cl. Other than the normal wear and tear I''ve had to replace the catalitic converter, cv boot, and the oil pressure sending unit. There seems to be a lot of people having problems with their Jeeps, mostly with the newer style. I have stuck with the manufacture''s recommended maintenance schedule and so did the previous owner. According to the receips the previous owner didn''t have any major thing come up either. I bought a repair manual and do the simple things myself and if something comes up that I can not handle I bring it to a repair shop that specializes in the repair that I need. I believe dealerships are too expensive.

Strength:

Looks good

Weakness:

Suspension is crap, brakes are crap, rotors are crap, very noisy, transmission is crap, basically you can say that I would not have another one if they wanted to give it to me free of charge. JUNK!!!!

I hate this piece of JUNK!!! I have had nothing but problems with it. I have had the Jeep for a year and half. I would sell it tomorrow if I could get anything for it. It is noth worth half of what i paid for it. Trade-in value sucks!! I have had problems with the brakes, transmission, radio, interior trim, sunroof, gear box, etc.... The rotors have been turned twice with 32,000 miles on it. Transmission problems at 16,000 miles. Has been in the shop lots!!! Usually when I take it in for repairs there is a list of at least 4 things. Dealership service department is good, but they were not willing to work with me on getting me out of this junk i bought from them. By the way, don''t go to McKinney Dodge in Easley unless you want to get ripped off.

Quality control.

I am split 50/50 on this vehicle. With regard to ride, comfort, convenience, etc. I am very happy. With regard to quality control, I am very unhappy. I will list the following items that have failed and needed replacement or service: 1. fuel pump (twice) 2. driver side headlight seal 3. driver side window motor 4. driver side seat motor 5. check engine light comes and goes Aside from these types of suprises, all is fine.

Strength:

Comfortable, light years ahead of my old Hyundai Accent that got wrecked. Power everything. Stong I-6 engine. Classic styling. No more complaints from the backseat.

Weakness:

Yeah that spare tire (Chrysler did fix it in ''''''''99) and gas mileage is not the 35mpg I got in the Accent, I average about 20-25mpg.

Needed a bigger vehicle to carry stuff around, really need a mini-van but I don''''''''t see myself in one of those, so I decided on a SUV. Went to CarMax and they had all the similiar SUV all lined up together. Compared the Jeep to the Olds Bravada and GMC Jimmy but I liked the looks of the "first generation" GC and it only had 22,000 miles on it so I grabbed it. It doesn''''''''t have 4-wheel drive but in South Texas you really don''''''''t need it, but it still looks better than a mini-van.

4WD solid system and handling, outstanding snow vehicle Reliable, good winter starter Looks Stereo

Weakness:

Mileage (expected that) Interior room

My orig review crashed so will be brief, hopefully this will go in.... Got 01 in Dec 01, Loaded Laredo. Went with I6 and base selectrac based on testimonials from 4 guys at work who have owned 10 jeeps in past 10+ yrs (6 is RELIABLE 200,000 mi engine, easy to service, no major probs except 1 transfer case overhaul on all those!) So since we don''t have a trailer (I6 does pull 5000 lbs though) we went with that. No sunroof either, I am too tall. Otherwise it''s got everything including premium stereo with steering ctls. Excellent handling in all weather. Wife loves the looks. Only warr items in 15000 mis: AC switch, seat heater. Mileage avg 16.5 since bought, expected it to be low but maybe closer to 18 (hiway is 21 mpg @55, but drops to 19@70). If you are tall skip sunroof and get dual power seats, esp if you have kids in the back seat. I got $1000 under ''dealer'' sticker with friend and family coupon, otherwise overpriced but could not turn that deal down compared to other US made mid size SUVs. (May want to stay away from 99s but 01 and beyond seem to have fixed model transistion problems including brake rotors)

Strength:

Great power for a 6-cylinder. Very reliable, service department at Hausman Jeep is great, and has plenty of room. The Jeep looks great, has a tastefully done interior as well, and can truly go anywhere (Jeeps are tested on the Rubicon, so you know they can).

Weakness:

I wish I had the V-8. The Distance till empty gauge needs to be a little more realistic.

I bought the Jeep after my car got totaled. LOVE IT!! Because I am a poor college kid I could only afford the 6-cyl. Even the I-6 has plenty of power. I have driven my dad''s 1995 Blazer and for some reason seems SO underpowered compared to my Jeep. It tows good (wish I had the V-8) has plenty of cargo room for my needs (VERY involved in fishing, hunting, and skiing) even with the tire there, gets great gas mileage for an SUV (on highways I get over 20 MPG), and can go anywhere you point it (I do take it off-road sometimes). Kind of a stiff ride compared to the Blazer, but I like it better that way. Sometimes I got motion sick in the Blazer because it bounced over and over again after each bump. The Jeep just tackles it and goes, no bouncing. I bought it at 97,000 miles and it has 106,000 right now. I had to replace the water pump (that is a part meant to go 100,000 miles and then go) and had to get my 4WD linkage realigned because of a mistake on my part. Don''t pay attention to everyone who had problems. My family has owned at least 4 Chrysler Company vehicles and have been very reliable. Even some of our friends have Grand Cherokees and they have been great too. EVERY company (including GM and Ford) will have some lemons and crappy service departments, which will explain some of the negative summaries. Then again, some people just can''t take care of a car worth the life of them. Just some food for thought. The Grand Cherokee wouldn''t be the #2 selling SUV if it wasn''t a great, reliable truck. Some more food for thought.

1995 Chevy Blazer (A nice alternative if you don''t like the stiffness of the Jeep. That is the only area Where the Chevy might be better. The Jeep feels more powerful and is a better off-roader).
