Strength:

I wish I could say something good about this vehicle other than it looks good when parked in the driveway. Unfortunately, I did not document allthe time and trouble I had or I could have imposed the lemon law or pushed for a buyback. One strength is the unibody construction...practically rattle free...if you can hear a rattle over the noise of the transfer case and lifter noise in the 4.0. Oh yes, the radio and CD player work well. If you are a mechanic or someone who loves constantly working on a vehicle the Cherokee is the vehicle for you. Plus you will need to have a big allowance for repairs, tires, etc, etc,. I have tried the Grand |Cherokee and found it a litter better if not noiser and a growling tranny. What next from this company? Nothing more for me please.

Weakness:

See review summary. You buy junk, you get junk...even expensive junk.

I bought this Jeep with assurance of long lasting quality. Ha! In 30,000 miles I have had front diff and axels replaced, two power windows repaired, driver seat reupholstered twice, front rotors warped, front engine main seal replaced, oil pan replaced, still have noisy transfer case, still fighting rotors with warp, cannot keep jeep aligned after front end replacment, wore out set of tires i 30,000 miles with regular blance and rotatio by the book. In short this vehicle has been one grand piece of junk and I say this after having generl motors suvs a-plenty. If, I ever get this thing fixed, (never been off road), it is a goner and so much for the Chrylser five star dearlers. What a bunch of >>>>>>/ Currently have apointment with an independent to try to correct the screwups from the dealership and the manufacturer. Leaky oil pan repired twice. Front main seal replaced, still seeps oil. All this from a vehicle that has had nothing but lots of TLC. What if I had really abused this thing? zNow3 my dealer is talking Liberty. If this cherokee is an example of what Jeep is all about, the last thing I need is liberated by a Liberty. To its credit, it is a pretty piece of undependable iron from Toledo. I presentyl cannot drive the vehicle in the 50 t0 55 mph range without violent steering wheel shimmy and shaking. Tires worn unevenly because of mechanical misalignment. To the credit of Chrysler, most of these problems becan after I permitted the dealer to perform service on the vehicle. Is there a cause and affect relationship? This has been a very dismal experience. Recommendation> Stay the %%%%% away from Jeep unless you enjoy taking your vehicle in to dealer, not having him work on it and when work is done is not done correctly. I hate to say it, but a non-american SUV will be my next. What a piece of crap.

Strength:

Very strong pile of formed iron. Will know better after the transfer case fixed. Optimistic that noise problem will be solved

Weakness:

Indeed an "offroader" because it's been in the dealers garage about six times in five months sometimes for an entire day without results. Beginning to have doubts about Jeep technicians/service/

I finally joined the "I Love My Jeep" club March 02, with an extended warranty. Wish I had gone through this website and done my homework. The hopeless idiot that sold this to me put in a CD player that never worked from day one. He kept babbling:"everything is covered" and you guessed it. They never fixed the CD (it is not covered in the warranty). I spent 350 bucks last week for a rear brake job. Now dealer says, upon my complaint of a noise, the transfer case has to be repaired (they don't want to replace it).

Strength:

Smooth handling, tight turning radius, comfortable seats and good suspension make this vehicle a pleasure to drive. Excellent 4x4 system!

Weakness:

Front rotors warping!

I bought my wife a 2001 JGC Limited (V-8) last Winter, and enjoyed it soo much I just had to have one also! OVERALL: My modestly stuffed JGC Laredo (6cyl)is a lot of fun to drive. Some minor defetes were corrected by the dealer with no problem. However, the 4.0L 6 cyl dosen't have the power necessary to push my Jeep at interstate speeds up slight hills without down shifting. (Should have bought the V8) At 6000 miles my front end began shaking during braking, which turned out to be warped rotors. The dealer ordered a new caliper upgrade kit that is susposed to allow the calipers to open more during driving to prevent the pads from rubbing on the rotor, causing friction and heat (thus warping the rotors). If this problem gets corrected, I'll be completely satisfied!

Strength:

reliable off-road, good sound system, roomy, seats comfortable, great ac

Weakness:

overheating, still can't figure out where the problem lies, please help

I have to admit its off-road capability. I bought a used 98 4L limited edition with about 30000miles on it. It has been with me since, and really a great off-road companion. I am kind of crazy guy who takes the Jeep into the lake to chase the ducks, haven't got stuck in the water yet, and other stupid things. The jeeps pulls me out in all cases. However, it does have some problems. The most significant one is overheating. I can't toll a standard 5x8 UHAUL trailer for a long trip, because the temperature will climb after just 20 minutes. I had to turn off the AC and put on overdrive, but that doesn't solve the problem. Driving in a hot weather like Texas, I noticed the temp indicator passes about 1 mark to the right. The mechanic said it was normal for the jeeps. Unsatisfied with that answer, I worked on it: flushed the radiator, installed a lower temp thermostat, installed a new water pump, installed a new oil pump, changed transmission fluid. It improved a little bit for driving in hot weather, but if I have to haul thing, same old problem starts again. I don't have other problems like others complaining. The AC runs great, engine is quiet in all gear, except when you put in Low 4x4 mode it rumble like a tank. Good on road handling, better fuel economy if you change oil, transmission, air filter as you should. Braking is good, Infinity sound is wonderful, no electrical problem on power windows, keyless entry, wipers, alarm.

Unsatisfied with service. High gas consumption in city traffic and high speeds.

General feeling is great, however the local technicians can still not locate minor problems like "squeeching" noise from rear tyres for 4 years.

Strength:

Great looks, comfortable ride on trips, overall a reliable vehicle. (Allowed me to walk away from a rollover accident!)

Weakness:

Wish they could make it a little bigger, possibly with a third seat.

Bought the 93 GJC Laredo in July 1998. My husband and I absolutely loved this vehicle. I would still be driving it had I not been T-boned at an intersection, causing my Jeep to roll over 3/4 of a rotation and totalling it. I will always sing the praises of this vehicle as I was able to walk away from this accident with only one bruise and a few insignificant scratches. The only problems we encountered with our 93 model were the alarm (horn would sound when the wind blew too hard - but this was corrected once we installed a new battery), rear windshield wiper wouldn't always work (which I'm sure could have been fixed had I been determined enough to take it in)and that was it. Am now looking for a replacement vehicle for the 93 GJC Laredo and will look at newer model GJC's.

Weakness:

Weak I6, transmission durability, brakes poor quality

Our 2002 JGC was purchased to replace a New Yorker, biggest mistake we could have made. Purchased the I6 for the fuel economy and "dependability". Currently we have 33k on it and have had multiple problems. The transmission has been replaced two time and still does not shift properly. Dealer said all 99-01's have faulty transmissions!? Brakes are a continual problem with rotors warping. Have finally found a place that offers an upgraded rotor for the JGC and had them put on last month with ceramic brake pads. I think this may have fixed that problem since the dealer seemed to be unable to correct the problem. Engin also labors when AC is on, dont think about passing. This is our third chrysler since 95 and our third chrysler with brake and transmission problems. Our Honda accord and Ford F-150 have both been trouble free. Next time well get an Explorer.

Limited rear leg room. Slow shifting gearbox for performance vehicle?

This is the second Jeep that I have owned in succession in the last three years. Have had nothing but pleasure in driving it. Absolutely trouble free. Perfect? No, the drive is a little wobbly, but I have come to actually enjoy it. Quality? I have had the pleasure of owning three BMW's before (2 bought new) and I am still looking for the shortcomings. To Mr. Laki (see earlier review). After some investigation I now realize why the rear stoplight has been blocking your view: You where looking downwards through the rear window to find the vehicles that's been filling up the rear window of your Subaru so-called SUV! :-(

Weakness:

so many...listed above

This vehicle is truly awful to drive. It is tippy and too heavy for its center of gravity. The acceleration is horrid. The brakes are horrid. The sightlines are all blocked in this vehicle. The windows are too small and the rear-window light completely blocks the view of the cars directly behind you. The configuration of the gas and brake pedals is the worst design flaw I have seen in any vehicle. The gas pedal is at least four inches further forward (away from the driver) than the brake pedal--dangerous design, not to mention thoughtless. The gas mileage is ridiculous. Other than the possible comfort of the passengers (because they do not have to drive it), I cannot think of a good thing to say about the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.
