Weakness:

gas mileage...but its an SUV

I love this truck. It had 58,000 miles on it when I bought it 6 months ago and now has 77,000 miles. I have not had a single problem. I have a 5.2L V8 with quadra drive. This is a very reliable vechicle that will take you anywhere you need to go and what ever you need to go through to get there. I would highy recomend this vechicle.

Model Reviewed: - Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

Strength:

Strnegths? This is a Jeep with a V8. It IS strength in itself. No tipsy feeling on mud-drenched, curvy, trails and no slack in torque on interstate highways. The Grand Cherokee Limited is beefy enough to rake you through the vicious hails of armageddon while at the same time, the cushy leather interior won't snag your little girls ballerina outfit or even that $1200 armani suit (of which both I do not have-- thank goodness.) All Jeeps are inherently born with the capacity to carry you through hell and back but The Grand Cherokee Limited makes the trip feel like you traveled on the wings of a leather trimmed Lion. If Dante would have had this on his Journey through his Inferno-- his book would've not been about a quest but about a 10 star vacation to heaven on wheels. If you have the $$ to pull it off, take one home, try it out for a week and I guarantee you'll wonder how you ever got along without one. Warning: a Jeep is not really yours until you name it.

Weakness:

"Weakness" is an antonym to "Jeep." The only problem I've ever had with Jeeps is the emotional attachment owners develop for them-- it was very very very hard to trade my Wrangler in for the Grand Cherokee-- damn near traumatizing... but my Grand Cherokee helps me get over it.

What's in the garage: 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (Starting price: $31,885)+ Limited package (heated seats and a power sunroof/moonroof-$1290)+ V8 ($877). This is possibly the most immaculate vehicle ever made. Brand new it was $34,052-- I bought mine 86,000 miles (and 5 years)later for $12,000 (this includes a 2 year, 24,000 mile bumper to bumper powertrain warranty.)If you do your homework right and are a semi-aggresive bargainer-- you can pull away with a deal as good as this. This Jeep was originally priced @ $12,999 without a warranty. I had a 93' Wrangler (extreme off-road package plus about $4,000 of customized features--ex. 3" stainless steel: nerf bars, bull bar, rear bumpers plus 4inch lift, skid plates, and 5. 31" x 13.5" Mickey Thompson Baja's on Eagle alloys)for my trade in-- the $12,000 was the final price (w/warranty). The Jeep was/is in beautiful condition, no mechanical defects, one previous owner, black with gold trim. This is a Jeep folks, not to be mistaken with anything else. By anything else I mean everything. There is only one.

Strength:

it has the best 4 wheel drive of any of my vehicles... and any of my friends vehicles too! :D I've never gotten stuck! Pleanty of room for the kids, and cargo. The V6 has pleanty of power for towing. I don't know what it is about people complaining about the gas... mine get's 20+ MPG! provides a easy, comftortable ride for those long trips. Excellent sound system (speakers). nice scure locking doors (someone tried to break into my jeep and didn't succeed) ha ha

Weakness:

I could use a V8 for what I put my Jeep through sometimes. It needs to have oil changes regularly....my wifes little honda civic can go forever without a oil change! other than that I can't think of anything bad to say... I meen it's been to the shop a cupple of times, but what car hasn't!?!

I'm so proud of my jeep charokee. I got it 5 years ago. It had 150,000 miles on it when I got it. I've put approximately 100,000 on it.... yep it has about 250,000 miles now! It ran great when I got it and it still does.... I've changed the oil every 3000-6000 miles. It starts up kind of rough now that it's gotten older, but it still runs just as great as when I got it. The only thing it need right now is a rebuilt altranator, the one in it I know is going out. It's been a fantastic vehicle for safty for my kids... it gets us literaly everywhere we want to go... (we especially enjoyed the trip to Mt. Hood, in Oregon) I know that my jeep will continue to get us where we want to go.

amount of oil changes quality (cheap) ride brakes quadra - 4 wheel drive system, was it actually meant to drive in the winter!!! gas mileage is absolutely pathetic have trouble slamming back gate shut dealer service, awful seats are too soft, not enough support

Hunk of Junk, I have driven European cars for several years, they were fabulous. The Jeep's interior might look pretty good but it is poorly constructed and cheaply put together. It doesn't have that new leather smell like my Volvo or BMW did. My husband chose the Jeep for me as we needed space for the next few years with our family. However, my Jeep doesn't stop on snow, fishtails sideways, has loud engine noise, upolstry on back seat is lose, and I had no exterior lights. It has 15,000 km on it and I feel like I have lived at the dealership. I have never had a problem driving in snowy, icy weather before, now my Jeep literally has me scared. And when I am not getting a bug fixed I'm getting an oil change, every 5000 km is a little much. I have also spent a fortune in gas, we are a busy family, I am hauling my kids to and from practice etc. every day of the week. It is just not economical. Won't keep it long and will never ever buy one again. I am already shopping!

Weakness:

the back seat is smaller than my explorer, but its just for the kids, lots of room for them. The cargo space is also a bit smaller than my explorer. Reading these reviews are making me nervouse because I payed 35000 bucs for it

I purchased this jeep in Aug. I previously owned a Ford explorer. I switched to jeep because my brother owns a Chrysler dealership so I felt somewhat obligated. I saw a jeep on his lot so I took it for a test drive and fell in love with it. The ride was great and had lots of power and had only 36000 kms, very low milage for a 99. The 235 hourse power was very impressive, and the ride was great compaired to my explorer. The interior is plush and very comfi. The sterio blew me away. How ever if I would have read these reviews ahead of time I might have not made this purchase. I am a little nervouse now. Scince making this purchase I have had some of the problems that others have had, like the pasenger window had to be fixed and also the drivers lock had to be replaced. I am also getting a strange thud comming from under the floor after I let go of the break (This does not happen very often). Some other people have expressed the same problem. If anyone elts is having the same problem and has a solution please email me and let me know. I told the dealer but did not get much of a response. The four wheel drive system is far more supperior than my explorer, jeep did a great job with that. I did not do much research about the jeep before I bought it because I thought it was a sound product. Jeep has been around scince the war, thought it would be o.k. maybe not, time will tell. People are whining about the gas milage???? what did you think!! if want good gas milage get a minivan and stop your complaning. I have 2 children and all my friends have minivans but I just can't make that purchase, I want to keep some of my manhood.

Strength:

Great deal - after haggling, incentives, grad rebate, and trade-in I got this thing listed at $40,650 cdn, for 32,000, as well as )% financing over 5 yrs - at 625$/month I'll buy it for the same others are leasing it. Great looks. Comfortable and smooth (but hey - my reference point is a YJ). Can't comment on the 4WD system yet but I think I'd prefeerd the manual control of the selectrac - I have the auto-engaging quadratrac. Will never go without 4WD for the Newfoundland winters.

Weakness:

The rear window washer doesn't mist nicely - it sprays a gush onto one spot on the windshield and the wiper disperses - not very well I should add. Hard to see cars behind you when parallel parking. Water run-off easily enters through driver / passenger window if open - ie. no lip or "evestrough". I suspect the mileage will remain dismal. Not6 looking fwd to dealing with the rotor issues I have read about.

So far guarded optimism. Had a YJ for 6 years with no troble till the last year. Wanted something grander, hence the GC. Mileage very poor - about 300 KM on a tank compared to the (manual) YJ's 450 KM per (same sized tank). Dont't believe that my mileage will improve by 50% after the break-in period. Dealer will check over re: this complaint - "have it analysed by the computer to see if there are updates". The sticker rated it 16 litres/100 km - I'm getting 23 and I don't drive it hard. I think its idling too loud too - with an occasional shudder
