OTHER THAN PROBLEMS IT LOOKS NICE
Weakness:
SEE REVIEW SUMMARY I am very disappointed with the quality and especially the safety of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo. These safety issues that need to be addressed. I purchased this product out of concern for safety of my family. I. Tie rod falling off: Last week, my wife, pregnant daughter along with two other passengers were returning from a one day trip. They exited the highway, (route 95), at exit 5 in Southern Rhode Island to use a restroom. As my wife backed out of the parking spot to return to the highway, there was a thump and she could no longer steer the vehicle. The tie rod fell off on the driver’s side. Fortunately it did not happen on the highway at 65 mph, and no one was injured or killed. Replacement was at my own cost. Apparently this is not covered under the extended warrantee. II. Poorly Designed Rotors. The very first safety problem was the front rotors that warp after a period of time once the brake is applied. That occurred at approximately every 5000-6000miles after replacement. My action here was to replace all the poorly designed rotors with some made of the appropriately designed material that would not warp. This was at my own cost. It is really sad to have two Chrysler products, both driven in the same manner and the same distances, and have the most expensive, (supposedly safer), one have a design flaw in its brakes. III. Front Drive Shaft The other major problem with this vehicle was the front drive shaft breaking for an unknown reason. I considered this a safety issue, it renders the vehicle useless. I am seriously concerned with the safety of this Chrysler product. We purchased this pre-owned 1999 vehicle from Patalano Chrysler in Franklin, MA. Comfortable ride, appearance, added tow package and power sunroof (after market)
Weakness:
Klunking noise on occasion sometimes feels like I'm getting rear ended. Not sure if its coming from brake system or the rear end. Love my Jeep, not real happy with the dealership where I bought it. I purchased some after market options from the dealer: power sun roof, tow package, and MING package (interior & exterior protectant). I've had to take it back to the dealer 3 times to get them to correct their errors and try and find what is causing a klunking noise. They say they can't reproduce the klunking noise, yet it did it 6 times when my husband & I took it into them. Also, when they put the fabric protectant on the seats they applied it wrong and has tried to fix it 3 times. I finally gave up on them, because they were making matters worse. I now have white streaks on my charcoal gray back seats which are never used. I don't recommend purchasing from this dealer. If anyone has any suggestions please e-mail me at vanhorn_jennifer@yahoo.com Thanks.... Similar Products Used: Ford Bronco II GMC Jimmy |

car rides good and compared to other suv's gets.fairly good millage. The 4.0 engine has plenty of power and the darn thing will go any where
Weakness:
tin can construction.Altho tey will go any where ,make sure you don't hit any thing.I had a 5mph encounter with a pole,(not even a hard enough hit to set the air bag off) ,but the damages were almost 3 thousand dollars. Seem's these Jeep are made to self destruct at 50 thousand miles. Our car had 27 thousand miles on it when we bought it and did fine untill 50m.Since then we have had to replace the brake rotors ,we have had to replace the cataliytic converter, had to have the seals replaced in the trnsfer case and just today had to have the p/s pump replaced. 366.00 dollars. Similar Products Used: SUBURUS !! I have driven every one I have ever owned at least two hundred thousand miles and haven't spent as much mony on all 5 of them as I have on the two Jeeps I have owned .As a matter of fact , |

Strength:
Nice leather interior Comfortable ride Attractive styling
Weakness:
OEM brakes(buy aftermarket) Gas mileage 4.0L engine a bit noisey I've owned my Jeep since Oct '97. The only major problem I had was the rear differential. I needed to have the pinion and carrier bearings replaced under warranty at 60K miles. I also installed a Carsound catalytic convertor since the OEM cat failed at 50K miles. Other than that, just wear and tear parts had to be replaced. I currently have 64,500 on the odometer and the Jeep runs like new. I change all the fluids myself at the recommended intervals. Maybe we are one of the lucky ones to own a '98. I've heard previous models years had more problems. I believe '95 and '98 have the least amount of issues. I love my Jeep Grand Cherokee(ZJ) and plan on keeping it for a very long time. Similar Products Used: 19871988 Ford Mustand GT 5.0L. |

Weakness:
Not real good gas mileage but what can you expect from a SUV? I think they are a little over priced. WOW I cannot believe all the negative comments people are leaving here about their Jeeps and all the bad luck they are having!!! So far so good here. Love my Jeep!!! Have not had any problems as yet except the gas gauge goes bazerk every once in a while but works itself out. I bought my Jeep used with 45,000 miles on it and now have 70,000 and havent had to do anything to it yet. I get it checked out every 3000 miles when I get the oil changed and everything checks out O.K. Have taken it on several trips and love the comfortable ride and handling. After hearing all the comments here I guess I should say I am lucky I must have gotten one of the good ones. At least so far. Didnt like the people at the Used Car dept where I bought it though. Very difficult and tried sneak in the extended warranty without even asking me if I wanted it. Advice: Go somewhere else. Similar Products Used: Chevy Pickup |

Drives and handles like a luxury car. 17.5 miles per gallon is pretty good for a truck of this caliber.
Weakness:
Nothing but problems with squeeky, clunking disc brakes (hard to tell if front or rear.) Previously had '96 Grand Cherokee Laredo, then '00 Cherokee Sport now '00 Grand Cherokee Laredo (all 4WD). All I can say is "FANTASTIC"!! Keep up the good work Dahmler Chrysler. But lose the disc brakes in the rear. Drums are my choice. Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer was a tie for 1st place. This jeep v6 is a bit of a pooch, has generic interior, not a good vehicle for the money. Having problem with noise generated through shift lever or thereabouts. Dealer says that Chrysler techs tell their techs that the noise is normal and are willing to do nothing to correct it. please e-mail win1bears@yahoo.com if you have experienced same problem. Only exists with laredo 4 liter from what the mechanics say. Similar Products Used: blazer, trailblazer, avalanche, f150 |

Weakness:
Warped brake rotors..... otherwise great! Our Jeep was a great car from the day we purchased it. It had an Inline 6 that seemed to have plenty of power and the interior seemed nice, except for the lack of rear HVAC vents and rear legroom (legroom was not to bad). We did experiece problems with warped brake rotors, and a front differential locked up on us, but that was under warranty. It was a pleasure to drive and we took it on many long roadtrips, towed a trailer, and even transported canoes on its roof. It was versatile, comfortable and stylish. Selectable 4wd came in handy many a times, as we live in Wisconsin. We quickly put over 60,000 miles on it, because it was so nice to drive. The the one main problem with our Jeep now, is that it is totalled and sitting in a salvage yard now. An older man (driving a large jaguar) smashed into it while it was parked, and hit 2 other cars in the process (thank God we werent in it) and it was deemed totalled. We are now useing the insurance settlment to buy and new 2003 Grand Cherokee Limited. We love our Jeeps, and will soon own another. Can't wait to take delivery. Weakness:
manual HVAC on Laredo, automatic HVAC not available except on Limited First things first, I AM a Ford man. I mean, I'm the Ford Sales Manager at a Ford/Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer. That being said, I've just purchased my first Jeep. A 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo to be exact. This GC has everything option under the sun, leather, moonroof, V-8, etc. The only reason this vehicle was purchased, as opposed to an Explorer, is that DaimlerChrysler has an excellent lease end pruchase program for the dealership... Ford does not. I will say, that no matter how nice this vehicle is, I am concerned with Chrysler's quality, so I also purchased a 3 year/45,000 mile AddedCare warranty from Chrysler. Hopefully it will be a good reliable SUV. I know that if it will last, I will never grow tired of the interior of the truck.
