Strength:

Stability in 4x4. Inline 6 cylinder has plenty of power for a vehicle this size! Good ground clearence and handles well!

Weakness:

Gas milage. When riding the accelerator, you can watch the gas gage go down. Interior noise.

Well, I've had a couple of Cherokee Sports now and I'm pretty much sold on the Cherokee line. The Sports are somewhat spartan in creature comforts, but if you want a 4x4 SUV that won't easially get stuck, then this is the vehicle you may want to consider. Other than some of the experiences I've had with local chrysler dealerships, I've been extremely happy with my cherokees. However, if a major components decides to commit suicide, try scrounging around the junk yard before you go a jeep dealer as you will save many hundreds of dollars!

Strength:

Feel safe on the road and handles well. Roomy enough for me and my two bikes and all my juck. Very comfortable on long trips. Does well off road but have not tried to jump logs etc. yet.

Weakness:

Engine a little noisy when started and at 65 mph or higher. A little pricey.

All I can say is that I love this vehicle! 72,000 miles now and I have not had to do a thing yet except maintanance. I have only 6 payments left and hope to keep it forever. I must love this vehicle cause I lost my job a last month and almost sold it once to buy a smaller car and also almost traded it once at a Dealership cause I needed the money. I backed out both times at the last minute. I know they hate me for wasting their time! I then took two part time jobs to make those last 6 payments! I have to say that I have been very good to this vehicle so it has been very good to me! I keep all the maintanance up to date without exception and then some so it gets 23mpg highway which is pretty good for an SUV. I do small extra things like change the plugs every 10,000 miles and fluids more frequently which I think has saved me hundreds in repairs.

Strength:

power, 4 wheel drive system (quadratrac),looks (of course), comfort & confidence in inclement weather. I still have the original tires - probably good for another 20,000 kms. The vehicle is excellent for carrying outdoor gear such as canoes, mt bikes and camping gear. The radio controls on the steering wheel and the speaker system is awesome - not to mention the heated seats in the winter.

Weakness:

other than normal maintenance - the rotors were replaced at 70,000 kms - there are no weaknesses.

I have owned 4 jeep products since 1992.(92 jeep cherokee ltd, 96 gr cherokee ltd, 99 jeep tj and 2000 gr cherokee ltd. - still drive the last 2.) Although pricey I am more than satisfied with this vehicle. Both highway and off road driving is a pleasure. The vehicle is very versatile (I've taken 2 16' canoes on the roof with 4 people and enough gear for a 3 day canoe trip)and has more than enough power. (v-8) Currently have over 115,000 kms on the vehicle and it performs like the day I got it. I've driven a total of almost 500,000 kms with the 4 jeeps and never had a major problem. (lucky me eh?)

Strength:

Ride, Looks, mileage (from the 6 cylinder)

Weakness:

Build Quality

I was initially taken with the looks and ride of my 1995 6 cylinder Laredo. Chrysler still has to address quality issues, though. Three sets of front rotors and a rebuilt transmission in 95,000 km is plainly unacceptable.

this is the first suv ive ever own. i got it because of the jeep legacy. since ive got it ive hadd no problems with it at all. it has 108000 miles and i havent had to replace anything. just recently ive done a few modifications to it for offroading. this thing is now a beast, compared to the other suvs ive been offroading with, the jeep is superior to them all. i will go as far as to say jeep makes the best offroading vehicles ever. so if you want something dependable and fun with great offroading, get a jeep!

Strength:

Fun to drive, comfortable interior, great for around town driving, 4X4 is dependable and works great. Smooth ride.

Weakness:

Dealer service, spotty build quality, loud engine, better speakers, dangerous around turns.

Bought the car in 1999 in perfect condition with only 55,000 miles on it, ever since the car's been dependable in the sense that it's never broken down. It's needed a new catalytic converter, a fixed muffler, and a new water pump. I had a bad dealer experience. When the converter and the muffler went out, the dealer's estimate was over $2300 dollars. I got it fixed for $250 at the muffler place in town and it's done great since, I think the dealer was trying too hard to capitalize at the owner's expense.

Strength:

Good dependability Super tire wear especially for a 4x4 Strong V8 engine Excellent AC and Heating system Good looks

Weakness:

Engine is somewhat noisy at fast hwy speeds, (above 65mph)could use higher gear. Braking power not impressive for front wheel disc, antilock system. (I think the rear shoes may have crystalized, were too hard from the factory.)

As I know this is an old product which is no longer in much demand from a purchasing aspect, I still wanted to comment on the service it has given me. It now has 140,000 miles and is still running strong. I have only had one major repair done, (over $100)that being a transmission overhaul at 105,000 miles at a cost of $1,600. Otherwise it's performed super. Nothing on the engine other than water pump has ever been replaced. Front brakes only relined once. I replaced the original Good Year tires with Michelin and they are still running strong after 110,000 miles!

Everything about it.

Weakness:

What are you talking about.

This is the second jeep I've owned since 1998. I previously owned a 97 GC laredo and I absolutely loved it. There were a few problems the AC went out, the water pump was replaced along with the radiator, and also had the rotors turned at 30,000 miles. We bought it with 10,000 miles on it and kept it 4 1/2 years until it had 105,000 miles and I never had trouble with the rotors again like everybody else has been saying. I loved this car so much it actually hurt to let it go. We now have the 2000 GCL and so far so good. Smooth ride, nice leather interior, great looks and styling, and the 4.7 liter V8 prvides plenty of power, alot more than the 5.2 on our 97. This vehicle will take you anywhere you want to go. Overall this is a very nice machine, but again it is a machine and you are going to encounter some problems along the way but thats with anything. It also takes a certain type of person to appreciate these vehicles and take the good with the bad. It comes with the territory. So with that said the next time you feel the urge to buy one of these vehicles keep that in mind.

handles nice, v8 engine is very strong interior is nice and comfortable very nice and aggresive looking body.

Weakness:

rotors will warp easily I have had to turn the rotors twice already but that's it.

This is my first time owning A jeep and so far it's lived up to it's reputation we have taken it off road and thru snow and have had no problem it's quadra drive system is very impressive the v8 engine is more then enough power. the quality of the rotors could have been better they do warp easily but other than that I have had no problem I love my jeep and for those complaining about fuel economy what do you expect if you don't like it get a pinto or geo metro I won't steep that far down I still want to hold on to some of my man hood. "it's a jeep thing"

Strength:

A good value if you know what you're buying and stick to lower end of the line with inline 6 engine. A decent ride with good looks and good dealer service.

Weakness:

Poor resale value, 15mpg if your lucky and thats going down hill with wind at your back.

Price posted includes taxes and rebates. Much improved over our 99. The ride has smoothed out, not as choppy, better construction fit and finish and some noise reduction. However this is still an SUV with poor gas milage and low resale value.I've always felt the reason why so many people don't like the jeep is they pay too much for what they get. There is a very wide price range for this model Jeep GC from 20K to 35K. There are very few differences in componets or quality except for the V8 and transmission when you step up in price. For 28K to 35K you might as well get a 4 Runner or even a RX300. I had to do some hard hagling but this is a reasonable price when you consider they didn't charge me for over $1100 worth of damage and waived almost another 1K in lease payments on our 99. In addition the residual was more than its market value by almost 2K. So the manufactor had to eat another 2K. Ouch, better them than me. This Jeep is very well equipped with sun roof, cd, and prefered package 26E and convience group. In addition I made them change out the cheap Goodyears with 17" wheels and Michelin tires which also improves the ride. Overall not a bad deal when you add in the rebates.
